Gallery not showing up on my site

I've got CE4 pages working on my site. The "info" and "Contact" pages show up as I designed them and the contact page is able to send an email. But, I can't get a gallery loaded. I uploaded one using File Zilla and it shows up in the file hierarchy on my site. But nothing happens when I click on the "Gallery" button. I think it might be related to not having a file on the site.

I have a couple of screen shots to show the error message and my folder hierarchy. Is there a way to get you the screen shots?

Ill assume not and I'll just type the message. "Can't update this collection. Unable to perform action;get setup for template....Create this template with CE4 Gallery then upload to your server." If a gallery shows up in my folder heirachry in File Zilla-don'tI already have a template? Please advise.

a link to your site would be very helpful.

did you upload an exported gallery (the entire exported folder) to /ttg-be/templates/gallery/ ?

To include images, upload them to the web. When creating your message, click on the image icon in the toolbar above the message box. It's the one next to the color wheel. Paste the url in between the img tags.

Re: Gallery not showing up on my site

I thought I responded to this already but it didn't seem to get posted. Here's my site: http://www.martinjenichphotography.com/ .

I uploaded the first entire gallery into /ttg-be/templates/gallery. I uploaded the second exported gallery into the galleries folder on my site. It's the second folder down from public html.

I get the img tag part-easy enough, but where do I upload the images (I assume screen shots) to the web.

upload to your own site. I have a folder called screen_caps that I keep mine in.

Re: Gallery not showing up on my site

first thing. You need to rename your gallery. JJ's Gallery 2 is not proper naming. Use only letters, numbers, hypens, and underscores. no apostrophes or spaces or any other special characters. This goes for your publisher templates and image file names too.

I'm not sure what your other problem may be. Are you expecting to see more than the one gallery on the Galleries page?

Are you expecting to see the gallery you uploaded to ttg-be/templates/gallery? Because you won't see that on the Galleries page. That gallery is used as a template by Publisher to create Albums.

Re: Gallery not showing up on my site

I renamed the gallery in File Zilla. But I'm not understanding something. I've used previous versions of TTG software and have not had to use the naming conventions that you described. What am I missing?

The problem is that I'm trying to get a gallery that I've created in CE4 to post on my website. I was able to develop and upload a "CE4 Pages" page. Except for the Search and Gallery buttons on my Home page, all  buttons work i.e. info and contact. In fact, I can send a e mail via the contact page. I'm using the same work flow with CE4 as I did with CE3 to upload the gallery but I have not been successful. I'm trying to work on the Gallery problem first. Then I'll work on the Search button problem.

I'm trying to send screen shots. See the posts from Rod above. Is this correct?  screencaps2

I am not expecting to see a gallery that I uploaded to ttg-be/templates/gallery. I understand the purpose of that folder in that location is to allow other galleries to post. Am I wrong? That folder is "MartysTestGallery1207".

I don't know the difference between an album and a gallery.

Here's what I'm trying to do. I want to create a Gallery in CE4 gallery and upload to my gallery folder on my site. This is what I did with CE3. I'm trying to use the same workflow and it doesn't work. I've read the literature on how to set this up and triple checked it and it doesn't work. Is there another resource for me to access to explain it differently?

Re: Gallery not showing up on my site

It's actually always been this way. It's just best practice for files on the web. Also, with those space and apostrophes, things can and do go wrong. Browsers will insert their own code that will be incompatible with paths to files that pages will expect. You can end up with missing images, especially on index pages.

The problem is that I'm trying to get a gallery that I've created in CE4 to post on my website.

Like I said earlier, I'm not sure what your problem is. I clicked on the Galleries link and was taken to the Galleries page. It looks just like your home page because you're using the same page image. But if you scroll down the page you'll see a thumbnail in an album container. That's the link to your gallery. I don't see any text, like Album Title or Description. But that's probably because these weren't filled out in Alubm Info: http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … album_info

I'm trying to send screen shots. See the posts from Rod above. Is this correct?

No. You need the actual URL. Public_html is not part of the url. The url should look like this:

http://yoursite.com/screen-caps/your-image.jpg

I don't know the difference between an album and a gallery.

They are essentially the same thing. In TTG terminology, a gallery is exported and uploaded. An Album is created by Publisher. They are basically the same.

I want to create a Gallery in CE4 gallery and upload to my gallery folder on my site. This is what I did with CE3. I'm trying to use the same workflow and it doesn't work.

Just scroll to the bottom of your Galleries page

Re: Gallery not showing up on my site

You're right. I had two galleries on my site all I had to do was scroll down. I should have used two different images. Sorry! But I'm having another problem.

I'm trying to use one of TTG's preset templates in Pages and it's companion in Gallery. It's the Gill presets. I went through the pages options, got everything set up and was able to get it to my site and it works. You saw that on my site. I tried to hack the settings in Pages and apply them to the Gill Gallery template.  I tried the hack at least 5 times and it does not work. I followed the directions to the tee including saving my work in notepad++.  Then I reopened Lightroom and updated the changes in the gallery. None of the settings that I made in pages, and copied to the the gallery file using notepad++ show up when I open gallery in LR. I investigated further.

I checked the lines of code from pages (74). I pasted all of them in gallery (74). I saved the changes in Notepad++. I closed Notepad, then reopened it and the 74 lines were still there.  I reopened LR. Immediately updated the latest changes by right clicking and I still got the default gallery-not gill. I rechecked the lines of code in the gallery file using Notepad++ and I don't have 74-even after I saved it.  I have the original  41 lines or so. I don't get it. Also, this might be related but it might be a separate problem...

The file structure in the templates folder in the Web Templates folder on my computer doesn't match the template file structure in Lightroom. I tried to delete a folder from the Web Templates folder  but it reappears after I reopen LR. Again changes that I made don't stay changed. I tried moving files around in LR but I couldn't do that either. Any ideas?

Re: Gallery not showing up on my site

It looks like Lightroom is removing dashes from the .lrtemplate file names, that explains the different structure.

At any rate. After you made your changes in Pages, did you first update the CE4 Pages-Gil template by right clicking and updating the template? That is a necessary step if you want to take those settings and copy them into another template.

Re: Gallery not showing up on my site

First and least important, is there anything I can do about changing something so that LR will not remove the dashes from the .lrtemplate file names?

More importantly, I just lost my pages file entirely. Something weird is going on. I think I should just start over with Gill pages and gill gallery? Does that make sense to you? also...

I first tried updating with changes in pages gill, then hacked the file to the gallery file and it was not successful. Then in the process of checking the lines of code using Notepad++ I lost pages-For what it is worth. Does any of this make sense?

not that I'm aware of. Note that it doesn't change anything in the list of templates in the template browser.

I just tried making a change to the Gill pages setup and saved the template settings in the Template Browser. I opened the template, copied the settings (everything from styleData on) and then opened the Gill Gallery template and pasted in the settings (replacing everything from styleData on).
I then re-opened Lightroom, applied the Gill Gallery template, and saw the same changes that I made in Pages.

so none of what you describe makes sense to me wink

I'd just start over if I were you.
Start with the Gill Pages template and make your changes.
But instead of overwriting the Gill Pages template, create a User Template with those settings. Call it My Gill Pages or something.
Now switch to Gallery. It doesn't matter what template you use. As soon as it loads, save it, as is, as another user template. Call it My Gill Gallery.
Close Lightroom.
Open the new My Gill Pages template in Notepad++ and copy the styleData settings
Open the new My Gill Gallery template in Notepad++ and paste in the styleData settings and save.
Open Lightroom.  You'll probably go right back to the previous gallery you had open. Go to the Template Browser and click on your My Gill Gallery user template. Your changes should load.
Once it's loaded, right click and update it again.

Re: Gallery not showing up on my site

It worked but the second time around. I don't get it but it worked. But the hyperlinks are going across the top and I want them in a column-Thats what I liked about Gill. is there a setting that changes that? Thats all for now. Just wanted to let you know how it turned out.
