Search Challenge

I'm quite sure I've followed all the instructions and read all the search topics in the forum, but I still have a challenge getting search to work.

When I click on 'search', the search page appears. I input the criteria and things seem to be happening. The output is a totally blank page, ie all white!

I'm using the latest CE4. The 'search' folder is in the top level. I've changed from '/search/index.php' to '/search/'. I've transferred the search folder to the server.

eg on:
http://galleries.photolens.co.uk/Photo_ … /index.php

clicking on 'search', it goes to:
http://galleries.photolens.co.uk/search/

search for 'Castle' seems to get stuck, but eventually opens:
http://galleries.photolens.co.uk/search/?q=Castle

Any help will be, as usual, gratefully received.

Re: Search Challenge

first thing to try is updating the gallery template you're using for search to the latest version of CE4 Gallery. The one you're using now is version 6.0.5, the current version is 6.1.2

otherwise it may be a hosting issue that Ben will need to look at. Until then, see this:

Re: Search Challenge

I thought I'd already done that but, to be on the safe side, I've just repeated the process. Still showing 6.0.5.

Please tell me what I've done wrong:
1. Replaced both galleryInfo.lrweb & manifest.lrweb in CE4-Gallery.lrwebengine;
2. Restarted LR;
3. Still showing 6.0.5, but saved my template again;
4. Restarted LR;
Still showing 6.0.5.

I even tried replacing the whole of CE4-Gallery.lrwebengine at one stage.

There really should be a 'TTG For Dummies'!!!

Re: Search Challenge

Replace the entire web engine, not just parts of it.

installing updates is the same procedure as initial install. I usually delete the existing web engine before installing the new version.

Re: Search Challenge

That's what I'd done before I started altering things today.

However, done it again.

Lo & behold!

Goodness knows what I didn't do!

Thanks Rod.

Re: Search Challenge

maybe a stupid question, but have you downloaded the latest version of CE4 Gallery (6.1.2)?
It was released a couple of weeks ago.

Re: Search Challenge

Yes, that's what I thought I'd updated days ago.

6.1.2 is working fine and dandy.

However, searching, or lack of it, is still as in my original post above.

I'll now plough through the link you posted.

Just to emphasise though, there is no error message, just a blank, white page.

Re: Search Challenge

I'm confused. Weren't you saying that Lightroom is showing that you're using 6.0.5?
If not, where are you seeing this, in the search page source code?

Re: Search Challenge

OK. I see now that the template you're using for search is now the CE4 Gallery 6.1.2 version.

Since you're still getting the white screen of death on the search results it's probably a server configuration issue. That's something Ben will need to look at.

Re: Search Challenge

Hi Dave,  this could be difficult to work out.  Have you by any chance uploaded CE3 Publisher files into ttg-be/publisher?
I ask, because this special URL http://galleries.photolens.co.uk/Photo_ … mate/?data that is meant to show the data structure of the gallery does not do so.  This is the kind of information that link should show: http://somethingchanged.com/photos/mt-lofty/?data

The most straightforward way to look into this would be for me to see the TTG files you have on your server.  Can you setup FTP access and email me the access details? (using the Email link under my picture)

Re: Search Challenge

All should be working for you now, with details sent by email.

Regarding the strange behaviour of ?data not working.  Had your template previously included support for passwords?  The only explanation I can think of is that the template once used passwords but had been swapped with one that doesn't.  This would have the subtle effect of the gallery thinking it should have a password form, and therefore not displaying the ?data, since that won't display when a password form is expected, unless the user is logged in.

Re: Search Challenge

Ben

Thank you very much.

The amount of time that you, and the others, put into solving our problems must seem out of all proportion to the rewards you get. Please be aware that we all fully appreciate the tremendous effort you all put in.

WRT passwords, again, I have not knowingly set it up for them.
