Scientific Format - Captions

Hi there,

I am trying to find some web gallery software which can provide Captions in Scientific notation - eg.

BROWN ALGA - Lessonia corrugata

Can this be done for each photo in my gallery?

Product looks good....

Cheers,
Martin

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

The plug ins can take whatever you've included in the caption from the Library module and display it in both thumbnails and large images.
But you need to supply the captions.

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

Hi Rod,

Thanks for that. Looking for confirmation I can get the formatting also... ie bold, italics, caps or combinations of all three... In a single caption.

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

yes, but you'll need to include the html in the caption itself, entered in the Library Module.
To take your example above:

BROWN ALGA - <em>Lessonia corrugata</em>

would yield BROWN ALGA - Lessonia corrugata

another option is to use custom css to target  the classes metadata1 and metadata2 in the thumbnail captions. Targeting for large image captions will depend on the large image presentation you use (the class changes depending on if you're using Highslide, Magnific, etc)
This won't apply italics in the middle of a line, but will affect the entire line

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

OK... thanks Rod.  Haven't purchased the plugins in, but if you say it is as easy as adding in some html code, then I may have to get these plugins for lightroom.

Been using PhotoMechanic at the moment for my galleries but cannot seem to easily export a gallery with this formatting.

When you say the Library Module - are you saying the Library module in LR - or is there something in this gallery plugin that I need to do?

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

Thanks for that Rod.

I just tried:

BROWN ALGA - <em>Lessonia corrugata</em>

as the caption data in the LR module, exporting as the HTML gallery.... but everything turned out in italics - not just the Lessonia corrugata part.

Is this different to what you have experienced?

Have you be

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

only the text inside the <em> tags was italicized in my testing.

There is a downside to doing this though: the caption is used for the image's alt text attribute. This means that the <em> tags will be included in the alt attribute. Might not be a big deal, though it might affect seo and will definitely affect screen readers.

do you have a link to your gallery?

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

That explains it. The standard web galleries included in Lightroom are pretty limited. I'll post an example from TTG CE4 Gallery so you can see what will happen

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

That's great Rod.

I think I will go down the TTG GE4 Gallery path then - seems to do everything that I need!

Re: Scientific Format - Captions

I think you'll be happy with it. I've been pleased with TTG since I first started with it. Probably the only reason I ever got any web galleries posted to begin with smile

Thanks Rod - made the purchase now.  I suppose they are easy to install?  I look for the support pages somewhere.
