You've got the Social Profile buttons on the right, in the Masthead.
for the social media profiles, look in Site Info > Social Media Profiles: Background-color. But you've got them in the Masthead now so their probably using the Masthead background color.
Your Social Media Sharing buttons are beneath your masthead (they have the dark background)
I believe the Sharing buttons use the page background color.
the Profile and Sharing buttons have separate controls.

but the social media profile buttons are inside the masthead with your logo:

and therefore appears to also be using the same background color instead of carrying over from the LR settings. I don't know if this is intentional or not. The selector seems to be: .social-media-profiles
so you could use custom css to place a background-color.
Since the background image only shows a little at the top and a little at the bottom, it's rather distracting. Did you want it to show through the whole page?

Thanks Rob,
I guess i'm crossing over to CSS, I was hoping to get a quick fix for this as i'm not the strongest on CSS and identifying a specific gallery page (esp when i have a gallery imbedded in an index page i have created outside of the ones that pages do)
whats the best link to learn CSS and knowing how to identify pages using them
cheers!!

Are you planning on adding backgrounds to the social profiles of some pages but not others? If not, it's a pretty easy to add a rule to a custom css file and it will apply to all of your social profile areas.
I learned a lot from CSS3: The Missing Manual.
Another helpful resource has been W3 Schools, mainly for reference.
there are a ton of books and sites.
An invaluable tool to learn is the built in inspector that's part of most web browsers. More on that here:
