Early in 2014 I started building my site using CE3 Pages and Gallery and got "sidetracked". I estimate I have completed 80% of the work to get the site ready. If I choose to go to CE4 will I lose some or all of the work that I have completed? Will the advantages of the newer version offset any additional efforts (if there are any) that I will need to make?
Once I get my site up I intend to add the shopping cart and possibly utilize publisher.
Thanks in advance. Any help will be appreciated.

that's a hard one to answer as only you know what you really need. This thread might help answer some of your questions:

Work you've done in CE3 won't translate to CE4 other than you've gained the experience of working with TTG modules and the next go around should be easier. templates you created for CE3 cannot be applied to CE4. But if you design in one, CE4 Pages for instance, you can copy those settings from a Pages template to any other CE4 template, which will save lots of time.

I think the benefits outweigh the inconvenience. We work hard on each major version to ensure that it justifies the both the upgrade cost and the time commitment. This is especially true if you're planning to use Cart.
