The directions given for completing Wordpress setup include the following..." set write permissions to CHMOD 755. This is most often achieved within your FTP client by right-clicking the .htaccess file and choosing "Get Info"." I right clicked the file and got file permissions option, and within... a slot for "numeric values". When I first entered "CHMOD 755" as per directions...when I reopened file permissions to double check...it would show numeric values as 644?!?...then after a few more times entering CHMOD 755 now it saves as just...755. What is the significance of the CHMOD? Is it necessary?

It's a command line action; just "755" is what you need.
