Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

OK, let me start be being clear, I am NOT a "code guy".
Which is why, the Backlight 2 description product page, seemed like the product I was looking for. "No Coding Necessary"

Currently, I have a fully functioning website for my studio. Been using it for years, using a PSD to HTML app, and then Adobe Dreamweaver to upload and maintain the site and all its adjustments.
I currently need a good cart feature added to my site. And one that does NOT require a subscription. (FYI, I only use older versions of Adobe, pre- Creative Cloud.)

So what I'm trying to do is export Lightroom Galleries, as I did with older TTG galleries, and create nice working Cart functions with those galleries.
So I need to be able to export single client galleries to my existing site.

After purchasing B2, the installation seems to say everything needs to be done on the server side, with B2 being the "Home" of the site. Am I misunderstanding this?
And if so, how do I get started setting this up???

Thanks

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

First, with Backlight you no longer export and upload galleries. It’s all done with Publisher.

I you don’t need pages like Home, About, Contact, etc.. then just upload the backlight/ and galleries/ folder from the unzipped Backlight-installer zip folder and follow the installation instructions.
If you already gave a folder named “galleries” then don’t upload the galleries folder. Instead, when you set up the TTG Publisher plugin in Lightroom, enter a different folder name in top-level galleries directory field. The folder will be created automatically on the server once you publish an album.

You are right about everything being done on the server side. Everything but Publishing. (And even that can be done on the server)
All design work and settings are done in Backlight on the server.

You’re current galleries will need to be republished before you can use the Cart. Only albums created with Backlight can use the Cart.

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

FYI, I tried to upload the Backlight 2 folder to my site.
I entered, as shown in the installation video, this in the URL box: http://solarviewstudios.art/backlight/installer/

I get this error massage:
"Not Found
The requested URL /backlight/installer/ was not found on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Did you unzip the downloaded folder before uploading? The folder is just named “backlight”

looks like you got this resolved? I'm seeing the Backlight installation dialog when visiting that url

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

Thank you for the quick reply, Rod. Much appreciated.

OK. So I did as you suggested, in that I'm only using (to get started) Galleries as a subpages on my existing site.
So I have taken the backlight subfolder and loaded to my sites existing Home page. I was then able to enter the login info, as Matt lays out in his video, and seems to be available now. I'll try to get further along tomorrow and see what happens.

Thanks for your help.

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

So, do we not use the "Web" Module in Lightroom anymore?
Or is it all done from the TTG Publisher?

No more Web Module.
Publishing of albums and album sets is done from Lightroom with TTG Publisher
(You can also upload images via the Backlight web app, completely doing without Lightroom)

All design is done in the Backlight Web app.

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

Thanks, Rod.

So I installed the "Cart" module. And it shows as "installed" in my Backlight admin section.
But when I created a small gallery, it wasn't available as an option on the "Integration" tab-page. It's grayed-out.
Is there another step to that being activated and available?

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

You need to first create a Cart enabled template and then assign that template to the album.

So I went to the link this morning to try to get the Cart function going.
Following along with the "Cart Add-On Basics", I cloned and started into the Designer process. But my "Add-Ons" tab, does not have the next step, "Purchase Button on Grid", or "Purchase Button on Large Photo" options as described in the documentation.
Under "Enable Add-On" it has the "Show Add-On Package" options, and place to label it.
Then a "Mixed Pricing" option.

Any reason why? Is the documentation older? BL1, maybe?

Yep, old documentation. Those buttons will appear automatically.

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

Hey Rod,
Thanks. :-)

OK, so I have entered a few Products. Both individual Prints and a Package to get started, for testing a gallery.
I Published, and then went to the Published Page. I can see cart icons on my thumbs. But, I'm getting "No product are available for purchase".
What did I miss?

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

hard to tell. Can you post a link?

Some things that can cause that is:
a pricing scheme that doesn't exist or doesn't have the pricing complete
http://backlight.theturninggate.net/doc … nd_pricing
incomplete shipping prices

If you make changes in the cart after publishing albums, be sure to click the Reset Cart.... link in the Cart dashboard

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

Here's the link: http://solarviewstudios.art/galleries/ss_test/
I have designated a few Print Products and size variables, plus a single "Package" offering. They all showed "complete". As I had them "Incomplete" at one time, so I know what that looks like. I have a "Pricing Scheme" that I cloned and edited. And that is the title in the galleries settings.

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

I have no "Shipping" applied.

EDIT:
Don't know if it make a difference yet, but I haven't made any changes to the "Backlight > Cart > Settings" page.
Maybe it's something in there that needs to be dealt with. Looking it over now.

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

Hey Rod,
I went searching and found that you had recommended to another new user to "reset the Cart". I did that and suddenly it started appearing. Not sure why that would be, as I had multiple times re-published the album without things clearing up. A bug, maybe?
Anyways, Thanks!
Moving onward again. :-)

Re: Just download Backlight 2, really confused here.

It's not a bug. Any time you make changes to the cart, you'll need to reset it to see those changes. At least that's been my experience.
Probably something to do with sessions
