I currently maintain a website using TTG CE3. I am upgrading to Backlight 2. I have set up my basic designs for my home, about and contact pages using a sub-folder in my website ("testsite") as the temporary location for Backlight until my designs and setups are all finalized. I am now ready to begin publishing albums which I have previously done using LR publisher, which specifies "galleries" as the top-level directory(and presumably targets my main website) .
In order to maintain my current publishing service to my (still active) website, I have opted to setup a new publishing service using TTG publisher. I want to maintain my TTG CE3 publishing service until I am sure I am ready to go live with the newly designed website. Am I correct in that I need to designate a new top-level directory in the TTG Backlight Publishing service? If so, do I merely need to specify "testsite/galleries", or something else, such as "testsite/backlight/galleries"? Thanks

BTW, I have tried both "testsite/galleries/" (which looks like it should work) and "testsite/backlight/galleries" but when I select create album in LR publisher I am not offered any templates from Backlight.

to publish to your test site only (for development purposes I assume), then set up a new Publisher instance and aim the API url to yoursite.com/testsite/backlight/publisher/
And set the top level gallery to “galleries”
When you’re ready to convert you current CE3 site to Backlight, and you also want to keep your currently published albums, you’ll need to migrate them to Backlight.
Backlight has a utility for migrating albums from CE4 Publisher, but not CE3.
But CE4 Publisher has a tool to migrate from CE3 to CE4.
In the past Matthew has supplied a copy of CE4 Publisher to those moving to Backlight from CE3. I think you also need ttg-be from CE4 but I’m not positive.
In any event, send Matt an email from the contact form on the Support Page and ask him about CE4 Publisher.
Documentation for migrating from CE3 to CE4 is in the CE4 docs: http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku … _migration

Thanks Rod. The current CE3 publisher API URL -- which still works -- is "http://69.195.124.218/~finkspho/publisher/api/". May I assume I need to change it in the new publisher instance to "http://69.195.124.218/~finkspho/testsit … isher/api/" or do you think I need to insert "finksphotos.com" after "~finkspho" (my user name)?

Actually, I just answered my own question using the API authentication. I had to delete /"api" at the end and it then worked without adding "finksphotos.com". Thanks again

I spoke too soon. Although the authenication worked, when I selected create new album in LR I received an error message indicating that the server didn't list any available album templates. I've gone back to Backlight 2 Designer and I see two albums (default and full-screen) are available.....

I'm kind of confused about your set up. Can you be more specific as to what you're doing.
Did you change the api url to your existing CE3 site? If so, I'm not surprised that it found no templates since you haven't installed Backlight into your main site yet (it's in sub-folder, right?)

No,I changed the API URL in the new publisher instance to the format you described in your earlier reply. It now reads: "http://69.195.124.218/~finkspho/testsit … /publisher". In the CE3 instance it reads: "http://69.195.124.218/~finkspho/publisher/api/".

it's correct for your test site is suppose. I don't know if it likes the numbers though

So how can I publish an album or two to design the album templates/pages before migrating the new website?
Offline
the documentation states that the API url should be yoursite.com/backlight/publisher so I don't know if the isp numbers will work correctly

try using this url for the API URL: http://finksphotos.com/testsite/backlight/publisher

didn't work. Authentication is successful but I still get the error message about the server being unable to list templates when I try to create an album.

And you're using the latest version of Publisher, downloaded from the Backlight Modules page?
If you want, you can email me your api key and I can try adding an alum from my end.

Ahhh, that's probably the problem. I couldn't find a newer version of Publisher. Can you send me a link?
Offline
I found the link to "LR plugins" on the Backlight 2 website, but all I saw there were the three gallery templates.
Offline
the link to the Publisher plugin is not on the TTG site it's on yours. Go to Backlight. In the main dashboard page you'll see a link to the Backlight Modules page. This is where you update all modules. Near the top of that page is a link to download the Publisher plugin.

Well that explains everything! I had been trying to edit the settings based on the CE3 publisher; I never saw the updated publisher plug-in. Thanks so much!!!
