Can you post a link to where your site should be?
did you upload the unzipped contents of your download to the root of your site?
Are the index.php and .htaccess files in their proper locations?
The index.php and .htaccess files in the root of the unzipped download file need to go in the root of your site.
There are also index.php and .htaccess files in the backlight/ folder of the unzipped download. Those need to be in the backlight/ folder of the site.
Did you happen to remove the galleries/ folder?
Did you happen to remove the /backlight/data/ folder?
Ben will likely need FTP access to troubleshoot. Consider emailing him that information.

Thank you Rod for your reply.

My site is www.chrisharlow.photography
did you upload the unzipped contents of your download to the root of your site?
Yes
Are the index.php and .htaccess files in their proper locations?
I suppose so
I will gladly give FTP access to the site. Where can I find Ben's email for this?
Best regards, Chris Harlow

Ben's email link is on his profile page, just follow the link in my previous response.
have you logged into Backlight yet and gone through the settings?
After making settings, also try going to the Backlight Modules page and perform any updates that are available.
Go to the main Backlight dashboard under Special Links and try clicking Update Backlight Index Files as well as Update Album Files.

Thanks Rod, if I follow the link I get:
Info
You do not have permission to access this page.
I can log in to backlight and gone through the settings but I don't understand most of them.
kind regards,
Chris

that's strange. the user page is open to all as far as I know. Anyway, his email address is ttgben@somethingchanged.com
The site url settings are the important ones for now.
did you click on the links under Special Links that I mentioned?

Hi Chris,
Are you able to verify this? The .htaccess file may be invisible by default, so you would need to set your FTP client to show invisible files. This is usually done via the View menu or Preferences, depending on the FTP client.
I can see that /backlight is accessible on your site, so it would seem to be the case that the problem is with either or both of the index.php file, or the .htaccess file. Please ensure both are in place; or maybe just upload fresh copies.
Have you tried to publish any galleries yet, either from Lightroom or from within Backlight? Have you had any problems with that?

I see your site is back. What was wrong?

It just needed the main index.php file to be uploaded

Thanks, Ben.

Any news. I wrote an e-mail to Rod and Ben, but I did not get any answer till now. My website is now already two days down.
Does anyone know when it will be fixed, because otherwise I will put the copy of the old page to the Server.
Thank you for your information and for your effort.
Best regards

Hi Dieter, I'm looking into it now. Several customers using Strato are facing the same problem, and I don't yet have a solution. It doesn't help that Strato support is not helping us with network diagnosis.
Offline
Hi Dieter, I have taken a look at your site. It is not able to connect to https://get.theturninggate.net
The installer tries three approaches to connect, and all three fail. Trying the connection with another URL, such as https://somethingchanged.com, does work.
I have written a small test script that I've placed on your server. I will email you the URL. Trying it with ?url=https://somethingchanged.com returns the page at somethingchanged.com. Trying it with ?url=https://get.theturninggate.net/ or even ?url=http://theturninggate.net fails
The test script and URLs that I've emailed you can make a good demonstration to share with Strato support.
What we need to do is get Strato to run a network diagnosis command to determine where the connection fails. This command is traceroute, and only the server support will have the right access to run it. As an example, when I run it from my laptop I get the following response:
ben@MacBook-Pro ~/temp $ sudo traceroute get.theturninggate.net
traceroute to get.theturninggate.net (70.32.80.218), 64 hops max, 52 byte packets

We need Strato to run that command on your server and to provide us with the output. If the problem is on their end then they need to change their network settings.

Dear Ben thank you for your effort
I tried to send you an e-Mail with the error Logs. But the Email was refused from your settings.
I think that it has to much information in the file to send it in the forum
Please let me know what is the next step.
From the support I got other frq.....
snout PHP Versions on my page the version 7.1 is installed and the recomendet version is 7.2.
Also Igot an frq about the PHP.INI file which is possible to have a lot of settings
I gave the Test connection file, witch you put on my server, to my son in law (Ihope this was ok) he is using a server from a other company. This is to test if the problem is at Strato settings or on a other reason. This information I will get on Sunday.
Now the big question is how to send you the error log of my server?
Thank you again for your effort.
Best regards
Dieter

Hi Dieter, can you try zipping the log file? Or, if the email is still rejected, putting the zipped file on your server so that I can download it via FTP?
Offline
Hi Ben
Again thank you for your effort.
The file is on my server in the root directory
The name starts with access_log

Dieter

Hi Dieter, thanks for the file. Unfortunately the access_log won't help diagnose this problem.

Hi Ben I will do the test at the weekend, because I have to sit at my computer to test the different adresses.
