Maybe just a coincidence as I have also been changing setting but after updating to latest Backlight my home page has an odd glitch. There should be a slide show but instead I have part of the masthead image showing and no slide show. Any ideas ? On mobile phone the landing page is repeating forever !

Looks to me like you're using a Pym iframe to embed a page within another page, so ... stop doing that. Maybe you've selected the wrong thing to embed? Or maybe you need to take a closer look at the iframe's source page. I reckon you should not be putting an entire page, with header, into that iframe.

i did try Pym iframe to see what it was but then changed back to vegas slideshow, it appears backlight isn't picking up that it's back on vegas.

I had to delete the whole template and start again. I do suspect there is a bug there though

Cleared cache a few times but that didn't fix it. Had to start over with a new template

To update embedded galleries, you should Clear Template Cache. This should be sufficient, rather than deleting your template. Also, I good first thing to try any time you're troubleshooting changes.
