I lost my two-column layout with my right tray??
I had a blog site that was working well for the past couple years (www.mindstormphoto.com). Somehow it got the menu colors messed up, and they no longer were readable in the hover condition. I asked for help on that, and got it (thank you!), and the menus are now working again.
However.... (yes, there always seems to be one...) in the process I have now reverted to a one-column layout. In WordPress, I try to add the widgets again, but am told I cannot. No idea how it messed up this time... 
How do I get this back to a two-column layout, and hopefully recover my right tray? (I can recreate the right tray if needed, I suppose, one I have a place to put it)

For Wordpress, you would need to create a new Page Template that has two columns.
Something like: Clone your existing template, then edit the new template and select a two columns layout in the layout section, next select this page template in your Wordpress Theme Template and do a Export Theme to Wordpress, and you then you should be able to add your widgets again.

You can even create a template layout with three columns. That way you have the choice of one, two, or three column layouts when creating new pages or posts in WordPress.
