I uploaded a bunch of images via UPLOADED IMAGES in Backlight. I now want to edit one of these images. Must I edit the source image and re-upload it with Backlight? Or can I find it within the backlight installation on my hosting server? In the latter case, where are the images stored? I can't find them in Backlight and it's sub-folders.

the images are stored in: /backlight/data/designer/image_uploads
but you'll see that the file names are changed and there is no extension. So I don't know that they're even editable.
The easiest thing to do is to make your changes to the source files and replace the files in Backlight.
If you go to Designer > Templates > Uploaded Images you'll see the list of the images you've uploaded. Click "Edit" for the image you want to replace. You'll see a button to replace it. Click that and upload the replacement file.
