One of the great new tools in 1.2.2 is the search tool that can search albums and the blog.
When I was using the default search widget in WordPress, the search did not return tagged content. I discovered that this was by design in the WP widget so I installed a plug-in 'Relevanssi' that works like a dream with the 1.2.2 search tool. It pulls back content and highlights text strings in the blog posts. This plug-in will search topic tags and content and comes with all manner of parameters that can be set.
As is my want, I am leaving most at default settings and it works me.

Prior to installing Relevanssi I was getting no search results when using the Backlight "Search Blog" for terms that I know existed in the blog.
After installing Relevanssi, which seems to work great directly from the blog itself, I get a 404 error when using the Backlight "Search Blog".

I'm using the latest versions of Blacklight, Wordpress and the Relevanssi. Any ideas?

I'll check my settings later. Unable to do so at present but my site is returning results from both Blog and Albums.

I just installed Relevanssi in WordPress on my test site. I didn't change any settings, just indexed the blog. Things are working fine for me. I can search the blog from the Backlight "Search Blog" link in the image search results page and I can use the WordPress search widget on the blog.

I don't know whether it would help to know this, but there's no magic in the search handoff feature. Just a little bit of Javascript to get the contents of the search form and build a search URL. Wordpress takes a URL query, "?s=keyword" to run search. All the Search Blog link does is build a link such as:

http://yourblog.com/?s=keyword

... then follows that link over to Wordpress to display the result.

If Relevanssi includes options that mess with the query structure -- ?s=keyword -- then that might be the problem. Otherwise, I should think it would work just fine as is.

It looks like the keyword doesn't make it to the blog search: "http://www.bretculp.com/bret-culp-photography-blog/?s="

I'm a little confused. You seem to be running Okapi, which does not include the search handoff feature. So I'm not entirely sure how you've managed to get the "Search Blog" button on the search page, but there it is. You've discovered some combination of things that we did not intend. Upgrade your templates to use Pangolin, and you should be right.

I have no idea how I got the Search Blog button onto the search page while still using Okapi. It's certainly not anything I did intentionally. Will upgrading to Pangolin require a major css rejig if I want my site to look like it does now or is it completely backward compatible?

If updating from Okapi to Pangolin, you'll need to create new Pangolin page templates. The best way I found was to look at the Okapi template settings (colors, widths, etc) and either write them down or print out the designer page. Then find the corresponding settings in a new Pangolin page template.
Not all of your Okapi settings will apply to Pangolin as the page structure has changed somewhat.
This will be all manually; there is no updating an existing Okapi template to a new Pangolin template.
