replaced the directories as noted in the readme file and I get this error trying to clear template cache
SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 1 no such column: pr.show_breadcrumb_for_children in PdoExtended.php on line 524
same error trying to access the site, so I reverted to CE4

did you see the upgrade process take place when you visited the Backlight, Designer, Publisher admin sections?
Ben may need access to your Backlight admin

when I logged into backlight it upgraded databases and the next step was to try and clear the cache which failed. by admin sections do you mean the settings? If so nothing happened there.
right now my backlight 'site' is offline.

You need to check in with all of the following to effect the update:
Backlight
Backlight => Publisher
Backlight => Designer
Then clear the template cache.

I'll try, but the readme says
2. **Clear the Designer Template Cache** by visiting Backlight -> Designer -> Templates -> Clear Template Cache
3. **Visit each of the Backlight, Designer and Publisher admin sections** to allow Backlight to run any
necessary database updates.
which is what I tried

I got also those problems, first visiting all the different pages and then clearing cache worked. It's a pity the read me first isn't up to date. This topic could be avoided if it was proper documented from the beginning. Just my opinion.

From the "readme" text...
"2. **Clear the Designer Template Cache** by visiting Backlight -> Designer -> Templates -> Clear Template Cache
3. **Visit each of the Backlight, Designer and Publisher admin sections** to allow Backlight to run any
necessary database updates."
Following these as written worked for me. When you logged into Backlight you got a update notification, when you click the link for Designer, you'll get an update notification, and when you click Publisher, you'll also get an update notification. In the end you should get 3 update notifications if you've followed the above procedures.

When I did #3 before #2 it worked, doing them in order didn't work. Glad it worked for you doing #2 and then #3.

Yeah I get your point as I'm pretty sure I also did 2 (clear cache) last. Seems more intuitive to do it that way.

I screwed up some CE2 3 and 4 updates over time doing things out of sequence in the readme so I made sure this time I did them in the exact order stated, oh well. ;-)

To me clear cache should be last, but I'm not the one who wrote the program so I can't argue the point
Good luck.

The topic would have been avoided if we were aware of this problem. Clearly, we were not.
I have again tested an upgrade from 1.0.5 to 1.1 on my main site, and was not able to replicate the issue.

For me, it never seems to matter what order I go it. I usually do the template cache clearing and then the others. Has always worked for me.

For me also no problems, but don't forget to clear the browser cache.

I followed the first version of the readme.txt.
While wanted tot do step 2 , I logged in and directly it started to update Backlight.
Clearing Cache gave an error. So went futher with step 3 and followed at last clearing the cache.
Just downloaded Backlight again. Need some testing now..

Updated Backlight components to 1.1, uploaded, then hit Backlight admin main/designer/publisher to update the databases (the publisher database update ran longer than usual but still completed successfully), and finally cleared template cache.
I hit some pages after the update and all appears well! Even some intermittent weirdness I had noticed with Theatre's Vegas full-screen presentation a while ago (sometimes it wouldn't load properly and then you hit refresh and it worked)...desktop/iPhone/iPad are now consistently hitting the Vegas presentation...woo hoo!).
Lightroom publisher showing the new fields for Tray 2 for a Backlight album and hidden copy fields for a CE4 album as expected...haven't tried publishing yet but I don't anticipate any problems (I'd test it now but I have to get some snacks for my daughter's slumber party with her football team this evening...this is one mission you DO NOT WANT TO FAIL when there are 14 girls against you!
