Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

Hi,
I've just installed theater and when I published my homepage using it, I get a blank box. I then updated to Pages 104, and republished - still blank.
I must be missing a setting, but what?
I noted that the release for pages 104 contains an htaccess file, but the README doesn't say to install it. Could that be the cause?

Website is www.artofthewild.co.uk. It's the front page!

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

If you've just now updated to Pages, then yes, you need to upload the index.php and the .htaccess file to the root of the site. If you previously had Pages and you've already uploaded those, then there's no need to do it again unless specifically instructed to by the readme file.

On you front page, did you insert the album containing the slide show into the page?

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

Hi Rod,

Yes I did. Album is inserted and republished from within lightroom. I've also copied the htaccesss and index across from the latest pages release. No change - the page is still blank.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

It is supposed to be this album:
http://www.artofthewild.co.uk/galleries/Homepage/

This is also blank. Check your image captions for apostrophes and quote marks (and maybe even hard returns). If there are any, either remove them or escape them (the single and double quotes) by preceding them with a backslash \

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

maybe an obvious question, but when you published the album, did you click the "Publish" button to actually publish the images or did you only create the album?

The images are there, but the I don't see the Vegas javascript code.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

I guess the next question is this: is Vegas Slideshow chosen under Album Setup in the album template?

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

It is, I'm afraid:
presentation type: vegas slideshow
Presentatino style: inline
aspect 16:9
display controls on
autoplay on
controls alignment right
image scaling fit
overlays none
shuffle images on
timer display on
slide delay 3500ms
transition effect fade
display captions on

The images in the collection are the ones that used to be on my CE4 pages-gallery homepage slideshow.
Album, album title and slug in lightroom are all "Homepage" (no quotes)
page copy is blank for now

Just republished the whole thing again, and blank. I'm baffled...

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

Unless you're not selecting the correct album template in Lightroom, I'm stumped too. Matt or Ben will need to look.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

There "might" be an issue here: home/ (that forward slash after "home")

I had a similar issue here: http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … 301#p41301

Anyway if I used (or it came up as) www.exposedvisions.com/home/ I would get a blank page.

However if I used www.exposedvisions.com/home (without the forward slash at the end), or just .com without "home", I got my page with all its images.

Now I'm not using Theatre, I'm using a fix Daniel Leu posted . BUT... that last forward slash after "home" was causing me issues. Why is the question Rod should be able to answer.  It's probably a messed up setting on my part, but...

Anyway perhaps the OP can look at that as well. Just a thought.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

But the album that's being inserted into the home page is also blank.

not sure why the / on your site is making a difference. I didn't think it should. But it might have something to do with the page url settings in Backlight Settings.

Yeah, that's why I say it "might" be an error on my end. Anyway to check? What am I looking for?

At any rate I'm just using the root URL (.com) as my "home" page and it works for me. Don't really need a "home" page at this point.

As to the OP's issue, I just thought I'd bring it up since the issue still persists.

Thanks.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

the page URL settings are in the Backlight Settings. You can try changing those and see if it makes a difference.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

Yeah I just checked there. It does have the / slash shown at the end of the word so...

Anyway I'll bow out as not to hijack the OP's thread.

Thanks.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

I'm not seeing the init script in your page's source code. Are you using the most recent version of Backlight, 1.0.4 Release 3?

I'm not sure if you're asking me or the OP, but for me yeah.

Edit: How would we know if we have Release 3? All the dashboard panel says is 1.0.4

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

Yeah, that's what I did (re-downloaded my files) and 104 Release 3 was there. We usually get a notification (email) when a new release is out. Got them in the past, got one for Theatre, didn't get one for this.

Anyway I did the update.

Thanks.

As original poster - no. Mine is backlight 104. No release in the name. I'll re-download and update. Fingers crossed...

Don't think I saw a backlight upgrade notice for release 3 either - but it just fixed the problem straight away. Thanks, Rod.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

An update, which ties up with the other poster on the thread.

When I go to www.artofthewild.co.uk, it comes up with a working front page.

But if I click on the menu item "home", which is auto-generated from within backlight, it directs to "www.artofthewild.co.uk/home/" - and the screen is blank again. If I manually remove the trailing frontslash at the end of the URL, the theater slideshow returns.

I can't fix this, because I don't add the trailing frontslash, it's put there by Backlight. But it doesn't seem to be an issue on any other page.

So I'm in a better place but still baffled.

might be a .htaccess file issue. Ben or Matt will need to advise.

Your issue goes back to what I was saying in my earlier post (#10). I had the same issue.

Re: Theater 104 producing empty slideshow

Probably your menu item is set to Page => Home. Set it to URL, and give it your desired Home address.

That is how I have mine, but as I said, if I use the trailing forward slash I get the issue described. If I leave the trailing slash out, all is good.

Anyway I just decided to use the root URL as I don't need a "home" page per se. Home => URL => www.exposedvisions.com

That works for me, but the OP may want to follow your advice of just manually inputting the address without the trailing slash.

Thanks.
