Migration - Does the API Key need to be the same?

In the quick setup you need to set the API Key.  I don't remember what the last one was and of course it is hidden and you cannot copy it.  Does it need to be the same between CE4 and Backlight?

Hi Ronson, the API Key doesn't need to be the same.

Re: Migration - Does the API Key need to be the same?

Quick set up may have been too quick. API key shows hidden. How can I go back and access it in order to enter into Lightroom Publish manager. Help!

Re: Migration - Does the API Key need to be the same?

you can just change it to the same thing in both Backlight Publisher Settings and Lightroom Publisher.
enter it in Backlight and then enter the same thing in Lightroom. Then check authentication.

Re: Migration - Does the API Key need to be the same?

Thanks for the reply Rod. I need a little more guidance though. How would I change it? Is it a code? Would it be inside a folder to copy? I had not used Publisher before. Do I need to start all over again if that is even possible?
"The API Key, you will have set on the Quick Settings page when installing Backlight, above."
I didn't catch anything about this in he set up, and instructions didn't mention. I had saved and clicked ahead sad

Re: Migration - Does the API Key need to be the same?

The Publisher API key is entered in two places. It can be anything you want I believe. Probably avoid spaces.

Backlight>Publisher>Settings
Click Edit Settings and scroll down to the Other area. You'll see the field for API key
(the API key field can also be found in the Quick Settings page)

In Lightroom, double click on the Publisher instance and enter the same API key in the API Key field

Re: Migration - Does the API Key need to be the same?

The API key in Backlight is always hidden.
Once you log into Backlight and go to Settings, click on the Edit Settings link near the top of the page. You can then scroll down and edit the API key. Put whatever you want there. Save settings.
Then put the same thing in the API key field in Publisher setup in Lightroom

Re: Migration - Does the API Key need to be the same?

The value of the API Key is generally unimportant. You can change it any time. The only thing that matters is that the API Key match between Backlight and Publisher. So if you update it, update it in both places.
