Gallery not opening and error message in browser

My problem is somewhat similar to this one: http://community.theturninggate.net/top … t-showing/

The cause of the error in the browser is (most likely) different.

These are the steps I have taken so far:

- With web engine 'pages' I have created an 'export' (Matt calls it a template in his video) to the root folder on the server.

- With web engine 'auto-index' I have created an 'export' and using FTP I placed this in ....ttg-be/templates/auto-index/

- With web engine 'gallery' I have created an 'export' and using FTP, which I put in ....ttg-be/templates/gallery/

- Within publisher I placed 1 image in an album I made (while 'publishing').

Up till now these are the results:

- The main websites seems to work

- Button 'portfolio'(=galleries) works

When trying to open the gallery from the homepage home>portfolio, an error is returned with reference to this address:

http://rutgerhollander.nl/sites/www.rut … album-set/

It is prossible to open the (1 image) gallery with a direct link: http://www.rutgerhollander.nl/galleries … /album-ww/

It may be relevant to mention I have received a SSL certificate for my domain. This certificate is applicable to the (main) domain only, so not to sub domains.

I hope someone knows how to fix this.

Best regards,

Rutger

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

Hi Rutger,

That link:

http://rutgerhollander.nl/sites/www.rutgerhollander.nl/galleries/tezt-album-set/

is broken.  Where did you see that link or click from to reach it?  Have you entered 'www.rutgerhollander.nl' as your site root, and accidentally omitted the 'http://' at the start?

I can't see any pages on your site to advise further.  Have you taken the site down?

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

Hi Ben, Thank you for your time!

Yes indead, sorry, didn't hear anything and thought to try the whole installation again. Just for sure.
Now, hours laters, I have the same result while I now build a new one, totally following Matt on this link:

http://theturninggate.net/2014/07/the-p … home-page/

The result: After publishing my "welkom" site, Lightroom "automatticly"opened the album in my browser. Fullscreen Auto stage looked well but in the URL where 2 slashes(?)

After clicking on the "oke" button, I came at my (empty) page.

I became confused because of what I red. It had to do with the "Slug". I tried an album with the pages-gallery slug but did'nt work out. Thats why I uploaded my welkom page, again, extra, to my galleries directory.

Now, when I go to http://www.rutgerhollander.nl  I come directly on my almost empty page, but now there's the "welkom" gallery. I do not see my beautiful fullscreen welkom/landingspage anymore? But Only the album... And when I click on it, I got the same message I got yesterday:

Not Found
The requested URL /sites/www.rutgerhollander.nl/galleries/welkom/ was not found on this server.

About your question: "Have you entered 'www.rutgerhollander.nl' as your site root, and accidentally omitted the 'http://' at the start?"
                No, I named it http://www.rutgerhollander.nl/

Sorry that I toke the site down yesterday. I'm trying for weeks or months now to get my site fixed.

Hope that you you can tell me where the broken link comes from? From where is it written?

Yesterday, It looked like this:

rutgerhollander.nl/sites/www.rutgerhollander.nl/galleries

How is the double domain name possible? For me, it looks like a mistake at my domainhost? Or can it have something to do with the SSL certificate that I bought online yesterday.

Now I really need to go to sleep, it's 4.10 AM over here. Have a nice day and thank you so far.

Looking forward to your reply.

Best regards, Rutger

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

rutgerhollander.nl/sites/www.rutgerhollander.nl/galleries

How is the double domain name possible?

this is happening because of hosting errors. Specifically the realpath() error:
http://www.rutgerhollander.nl/lib/autoindex/verify.php
Who are you hosting with?

__
About the Publisher home page gallery:

Did you delete your "pages-gallery" album? I tried to find it here: http://www.rutgerhollander.nl/galleries/pages-gallery/
but it's not there

There is a full page flip gallery named "Welkom" here: http://www.rutgerhollander.nl/galleries/welkom/

However, it appears that is an uploaded Stage gallery, not a Publisher created album.
For Publisher to replace the home page gallery you first must upload a Stage gallery template to /ttg-be/templates/gallery and use that template to create the pages-gallery album

But none of this is going to work right with that realpath() error.

If you're hosting with GoDaddy, you can try the solution in this post:
http://community.theturninggate.net/post/2020/#p2020

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

Hi Ben,

Thank you for your reply.

You are correct: I did upload a Stage Gallery, beacause I would like to have a full screen gallery appear as 'landing page'.
After publishing this Stage Gallery form LR the Stage 'full screen auto' automatically opens in the browser.
But the 'button' doesn't redirect to my 'homepage'.

If you enter rutgerhollander.nl, you'll see the 'welkomspagina' button (which doesn't work and I prefer it would not appear at all).

Searching the forum, I found this post:

http://community.theturninggate.net/post/23026/#p23026

Rajiv's website does exactly what Iam trying to achieve (though he uses the full screen flip grid-type).

Perhaps I could use the same fix as Rajiv has used from this post which is mentioned in the above post:

http://community.theturninggate.net/post/23026/#p23026
Changing the ht.access file manually when updating is not a big deal for me.

I hope you could advise me on this.

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

Rutger,

You are correct: I did upload a Stage Gallery, beacause I would like to have a full screen gallery appear as 'landing page'.

you have Publisher so why not just use the feature that replaces the home page (a landing page) with a Publisher controlled album?

But instead of exporting and uploading your Stage gallery to the /galleries/ folder, you need to upload it to the /ttg-be/templates/gallery/ folder.
Then use Publisher to create an album with the slug of "pages-gallery".

Simply changing the slug of your existing Stage page in the galleries/ folder won't do what you want. It must be done via Publisher.

After publishing this Stage Gallery form LR the Stage 'full screen auto' automatically opens in the browser.
But the 'button' doesn't redirect to my 'homepage'

You can direct that link to any of your pages. The default is /galleries.php, but you can set it to anything you like. Look for "Hyperlink Target" under Full-screen: Auto.

I'm not following what that thread you linked to has to do with your current issue. That thread was about Publisher not creating the -single.php files for the single-html option in CE4 Gallery.

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

Am I right in thinking you want that one image full screen "landing page" and have the link go to your galleries index page?

Right now, your url http://www.rutgerhollander.nl/ goes to an index page. In Appearance > The AutoIndex, you've set the autoindex to appear on the Home Page. Nothing wrong with that except you also want the "landing page"

The way around this is to assign the Galleries Page to the Autoindex, place the Gallery on the Home page, and use Publisher to replace the Home Page gallery with your full page image.

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

Rod,

Thank you for your replies.

Your thinking (as stated in your last reply) is right, but in your last sentence you mention a full page image. I guess you mean full page full screen- auto grid (from 'stage')?  I would like to have a number of full screen images that each appear  for a couple of seconds.

I will follow your suggestions and wil post afterwards.

Once again thank you!

Rutger

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

I should perhaps mention that I applied the change in autoindex.php which is described by Matt here:

http://community.theturninggate.net/post/2020/#p2020

Without it, the 'stage' gallery  (named 'welkomspagina') would not function. This is probably due to the server settings of my hosting company which appear to be similar to those of Godaddy in, at least, this respect.

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

If I follow your suggestions, do you think the landing page 'welkompagina' would show up when someone enters my website, the button will direct to the homepage and the link to 'welkomspagina', which is currently there, wil dissapear?

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

the button will direct your visitors to whatever page you tell it to.
Take a look at Matt's site here: http://campagnapictures.com/

He's using the full-screen flip gallery. The Enter button takes the visitor to his Galleries index page.

Jim Sweeney's site (http://www.jimsweeneyimages.com/)is using Pages' built in full-page flip gallery. It's not Publisher controlled but the concept is the same. The enter button takes the viewer to the Galleries index page.

You can have this button take the viewer anywhere you want. If you wanted to set up your About or Info page as an introduction, you could have the button take the viewer there.

the link to 'welkomspagina', which is currently there, wil dissapear?

I'm not sure I'm understanding the question.

If you do as I suggest, your Home page will be the Welcomspagina. The Enter button will take the viewer to another page: your Galleries page, the About page, or whatever other available page you choose. In the navigation, the Home link (you can rename it to Welkomspagina) will take the viewer back to the landing page.

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

I would like to have the button in the landingspage directing to the current 'homepage'.
The page you see when you currently enter rutgerhollander.nl.

In short: the full screen gallery (=landing page) should preferably only be visible when you initially enter my page (or reload the page in browser).
Besides, I might of course publish similar galleries for different purposes 'within' my site.

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

The page you see when you currently enter rutgerhollander.nl.

It can't. At least not to that specific URL. The reason being is that if you use the "landing page", that becomes the home page and its url will be rutgerhollander.nl

What you can do is in Appearance > the Autoindex is to assign the autoindex to the Galleries page. Then, in the Stage template you'll be using for the Home page (landing page), assign the button's url to /galleries.php

Try this, just to get an idea of what I'm talking about:

In Pages > Appearance > the Gallery:  assign the Gallery to the Home Page. Set Gallery Type: desktop to Full Screen Flip gallery (for now).
Set the Enter button Hyperlink target to /galleries.php

In Pages > Appearance > the Autoindex: assign the Autoindex to the Galleries page.

Export and upload.

When you go to http://www.rutgerhollander.nl/ you'll see the full-screen flip gallery. Click the enter button and you'll be taken to the Galleries page, where you've assigned the autoindex.

The way you have it set up now you've got the Autoindex assigned to the Home page. This is what you see when you click link to your Welkom page. If your intent is to have your main page (the one you go to after clicking the enter link on the landing page) to be a galleries index, then set things up as I describe.

Rod, thanks again for your extensive replies, you're very supportive!!

We (I am with 2 friends, 1 of which is quite experienced in web development) will now implement your proposal and I will let you know how things work out.

Fortunately there's enough coffee at hand, we'll need it.

When you re-export Pages, don't forget to make that same change to the autoindex file that you made before from this thread: http://community.theturninggate.net/post/2020/#p2020

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

And once you see how the Home Page "landing Page" works, you can then change settings to have Publisher replace the Home Page gallery and use your full page gallery.

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

Rod,

We have managed to create the full screen landing page (gallery).
The button does also link to /galleries/ (I called it 'homepage' before), but I have decided that a 'traditional' home button is of no use and rather inappropriate for a photographer's website.

The next step is to set 'publisher' controlled galleries and/ or albums .

If you have suggestions or remarks, please let me know.

Re: Gallery not opening and error message in browser

now you just need to hide the Welkompagina from the autoindex so it doesn't show up on the Galleries page.
