fixed and auto width

Can somebody explain me the difference of fixed and auto with? There are a lot of parameters where you can make this choice. Although with "fixed" the window is adopted to the width of the available screen.

I have now fixed stated. What are the consequences? What I have to state in addition when I select auto?

Re: fixed and auto width

auto width will set the width of the page section to the same width you set for the overall page.

If you set the overall width of the page container to auto, it will span the width of the browser.
