CE3 LR User Templates

I have custom User Templates in LR that I use to create my galleries. If I upgrade to CE4 Gallery, will my settings still be the same? i.e. Thumbnail sizes, Google analytics info, masthead pic, social media addresses? Thanks! - Kevin

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

no. pre CE4 templates won't work. You'll need to create new ones.
But you can create one CE4 template and share it with the other CE4 engines

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

Is there a way of printing out what is in the old templates?

I evolved mine by a series of many 'hit and miss' attempts. Any reference to the old template instructions would be better than nothing.

It is what is putting me off upgrading - not the money!

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

In the past I've made screen shots of my settings.

You can also open your old templates with a text editor and print that out, though I don't know how useful that might be. I'd end up spending more time figuring out what text corresponds to which setting.

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

For me the biggie is all the color settings in the CE3 templates. I spent a lot of time last year creating them in Pages and them shared all those settings with Gallery, Autoindex and Stage. It looks like you have not devised a way to share these setting with a CE4 template. Is this correct or is there a way to avoid all that research into all those setting which we do not want to change?

Thanks,

Paul

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

You'll need to go through your CE3 settings and write down the colors you're using.

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

I think the easiest thing would be to load your CE3 theme, create a set of color swatches, then work through CE4 using those swatches:

Too bad Lightroom does't allow for the creation of color swatch presets. I end up creating color "schemes" with the five or so colors Lightroom allows and then writing down the hex codes.

Matt, does the SDK allow you to expand the number of saved colors in the picker?

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

No, it doesn't.

I'd happily settle for the Template Browser saving your chosen colors with templates, but that's not a thing either ... I feel like Adobe didn't really think the the color picker through very well.

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

It seems like an afterthought to them. Who uses that useless Web Module anyway? wink

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

Could you make up a lookup table where all the colors could be easily managed and shared by all the modules?

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

Is this something Lightroom is capable of doing?

I wonder if someone has created such a plugin for Lightroom yet. Time to fire up the Google machine smile

Re: CE3 LR User Templates

How about creating an image with your color swatches and import it into Lr? You could even use it as identity plate during development so it is easy visible.
