Deletion of User Zoom

One of the features of the iPad I really enjoy is the ability to pinch-zoom images.  I now see that this feature "Allow User Zoom" is being disabled in the new releases of CE3.  The blog indicates that this feature "aged poorly".  I'm curious why. 

I really hate to forgo the new updates, but I really love zoom!

It's simply not working under newer operating systems and devices. Rather than have it be a problem that we have to answer for, we're simply removing it.
