Clicking through search results

Hi all,

On entering a search in BKL2 I am returned a number of images which works well.

I click on the first image and that takes me to a single-image page (which is what I want), but then when I click the next icon, it doesn't take me to the next image returned in the search, but other images.

How can I change the behaviour so I click through the search results only?

http://www.tasmanianphotos.com

Appreciate your help.

Cheers

Re: Clicking through search results

Try switching the search album template to one using slideshow mode rather than single pages.

It looks like Single Page presentation doesn’t allow browsing through the search results image by image.

Re: Clicking through search results

Ok thanks Rod can look into that.

If I went with a slideshow though, wouldn't I loose the SEO benefit (url) of the single image?  eg

http://www.tasmanianphotos.com/tasmania … single.php

My understanding was that the single image options was built so there were single URLs where people/spiders etc could be directed/indexed?

Re: Clicking through search results

I don't really know how all that works.

But changing your search album template to slide show presentation shouldn't affect the SEO on your other albums. Just the album that's created with the search results would have that issue.

Re: Clicking through search results

The single image view is always available. So switching to slideshow mode has no impact on SEO.

Ok, thanks good to know Daniel.

Can you still add the cart option to images in the slideshow?

Re: Clicking through search results

Hi guys,

This is weird...

I have switched to slideshow now and I can click through the images as per the link below.

When I get to the end of the first page of results though, I click on the last image and am presented with a "play" button.  I press that and am taken to the backlight login page instead of the next results page.  Am using Chrome.

http://www.tasmanianphotos.com/backligh … t+coast%22

and the strange click through URL at:

http://www.tasmanianphotos.com/backligh … gallery-26

Any ideas on this one?

Re: Clicking through search results

Looks like a bug. I'm getting the same results when clicking through search results.
It's happening in all browsers.

For now, you could change the Items Per Page to a really high number (Backlight > Settings > Publisher > Items per page)

Ok, thanks Rod.

Will update that shortly - hopefully Ben or Matt can have a look at the behaviour before I make the change.

Re: Clicking through search results

Hi all,

Apologies for the confusion in recent thread.  Issues still continue since I posted this

On a list of search results:

1) If in "slideshow mode" (Album Template), you can scroll through a page of returned images but are then presented with a "play" button which takes you to the backlight login page when clicked.

2) If in "single mode" (Album Template) on a returned set of pictures after a search there is inconsistent behaviour in scrolling through the returned list.  ie. you can't scroll through images one by one in order.

Any updates here on these issues?  Apprepiate the support as always.

Cheers,
Chumby.

Re: Clicking through search results

The "play button" is actually a "step-forward" button ... https://fontawesome.com/v4.7.0/icon/step-forward

In a normal gallery, it's meant to advance to the next page of the album. We're not in love with it, and I think with lazy-loading of thumbnails now being supported, it's not as necessary as it was when we introduced it. Something I'd like to cut from the application at some point, but that's tangential.

You should increase the items per page value for search. To do that, go to the Settings page. Scroll down to the Publisher section, and change the "Items Per Page" value.

Re: Clicking through search results

Hi Matthew,

Thank you for your response.

The main problem with the "step forward" button though is that it doesn't work - it akes you to the backlight login page, not to the next page.

With this though, I would prefer to use the single image page as I can add extra information under the image via php-plugins (like a buy now button etc)

Do you have any fix in making or workaround for the issue I mention above for the single-image-page?

Thank you ,
Chumby

Re: Clicking through search results

If you increase the items per page setting high enough (it can be set up to 500), you shouldn’t even encounter the step forward button.

Re: Clicking through search results

We will be working on a fix for the step button going to admin. There are no plans to fix the behaviour of single pages on search results. It would require a major reworking. We instead recommend using a slideshow. Bear in mind that the search results are not intended to be used as an album. It’s purely to help your users find pictures.

Re: Clicking through search results

Ok, thanks Ben and Rod for the input here and I have a better idea of where you are going with this.

I'll switch to slideshow mode then and have results returned up to 500.

Hi Chumby, we've just released a fix for this.  Please visit Backlight Modules and upgrade Pangolin Album to version 2.0.13.

Re: Clicking through search results

Hi Ben,

Thanks for this.  I have downloaded and tested.

Looks good for a search result - try "primrose" at https://www.tasmanainphotos.com  - the play button marker is gone.  Great!

I do notice it is still there though when I am clicking through the album (not searching).

Could be a browser/caching issue... but click through the photos in the album at:

https://www.tasmanianphotos.com/tasmania/stock/images/

and to me the play button still appears there.  Is that happening for you?

Appreciate your work on this issue.

Cheers

Re: Clicking through search results

What you’re seeing is the intended behavior.
In pagínate albums, the “step forward” icon appears when you get to the last image on a page. It takes you to the next page.
