Hi,
I'm currently running Backlight on a local server (a NAS). So the site root URL is http://myNAS. When everything is ready, I'll switch to the real site (http://www.mydomain.com). Will it be enough to copy everything from the NAS to the real site via FTP, login to Backlight on the real site (http://www.mydomain.com/backlight) and change the base URL ?
Thanks.
What is the "Backlight utility" mentioned above?
Could it be the "Designer | Templates | Uploaded Images" command?
OK. I got it. Tray 02 is the third column. But why allow entering text in the Tray 02 section if only 2 columns are allowed in the Page Layout?
No easier way of inserting an image in a page? Really? I'm disappointed. Backlight was supposed to make things easier. Inserting an image in a page was really easy even with CE3. I have not purchased Backlight to spend time dealing with HTML code and CSS style sheets.
What is the "Backlight utility" mentioned above?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I have just started setting up Backlight 1.0.2 and I already have a few problems. Be ready for other messages... :-)
First problem, the text entered in the Tray 02 section of my Home page doesn't appear anywhere. Where is it supposed to show up?
Thanks.
I strongly suggest that all users try a more robust text editor than Notepad, such as Notepad++.
Agreed. This is what I'm using, so I'm not hit by this issue. I just wanted to point out this problem for users who are not aware of the line terminator issue.
Hi,
I know that the people at TTG are rather Linux oriented but they should not forget that they also have customers using Windows (nobody's perfect).
The first problem I encountered when installing CE4 was the native incompatibility of CE4 with a Windows hosting. I could fix this easily by switching to a Linux hosting but I was surprised.
However, when looking at the various information text files included in the packages (like changes.txt), I noticed that the line terminator was systematically 0A (\n), which makes these files practically unreadable under Windows. I understand that the .php files be written using the Unix style. However, the files describing the changes or more generally giving information to the user should use a terminator style that makes these files readable on both systems : \r\n. Ditto for the plugin files installed on the user's system.
Experienced users know that they can open these files with a text editor that understand both line terminator styles but many of them will use Notepad by default and will not be able to easily read the file contents.
My two cents...
Just, the suggested workflow is quite different.
Either will work, but I can see that it could be confusing to someone new to it...
Thanks very much. It's true that the old versions of TTG CE was apparently simpler but was also time consuming since each change in a gallery or in TTG Pages implied re-uploading the whole stuff.
Maybe a simple document explaining how each CE4 module is related to the others could help.
In the Publisher Album setup there is a Page Content tab. In that tab you can add any album specific text you like. You can also include any text that you entered in the template you're using.
OK. Thanks. It's becoming clearer now.
What inconsistencies are you seeing between the tutorial and the video? It would help to clear up any confusion if you could give specific examples.
Just, the suggested workflow is quite different.
Thanks for the details, Rod.
Say, for instance, you wanted to change the background color of your navigation. Prior to Publisher, to make that change in all of your existing galleries you would need to re-export and upload each of them. With Publisher you just make the change to the gallery used as the template then re-export and upload that. Now all your albums have the new nav background color.
I understand. Now, if you have a look at my current site (www.ppphoto.fr), you'll see that each gallery has a different accompanying text. In my current version of TTG, this is specified in the gallery template itself. What if I want a different presentation text for each gallery (album) ? Can I change this for each gallery before publishing and only for this album without affecting the common template?
To make my question more accurate (and shorter :-) ) : I don't clearly see the connection between CE4 Pages / CE4 Gallery and CE4 Publisher. I don't see a clear workflow between these modules, especially with CE4 Publisher which doesn't seem to be "connected" to the two others.
Hi,
I'm coming from Highslide CE 3.1.5 / TTG Pages 3.7.3 which no longer work in LR 6 / LR CC. So I jumped to the CE 4 Web Publishing bundle.
I have just read the "Beginner's Guide to CE4 Web Publishing bundle" (http://ce4.theturninggate.net/docs/doku.php?id=ce4_101) and I'm not sure I have understood everything correctly. With the older versions mentioned above, I had no problem using the upload mechanism built-in in LR. Never had any error. Now the Beginner's guide is telling me that I shouldn't use this feature and upload the generated gallery or TTG Pages generated site manually using a FTP client. I have no problem with this but I thought that CE4 Publisher was here to do that. Why should I now use a FTP client while I never had to do that with much older versions?
Moreover, with this old versions, I just had to create a collection for each gallery, switch to the Web module, setup various options and click on upload. Now, things appear to be different (more complicated) with CE4 Publisher which is supposed to make things easier if I understood well. I have to create a gallery template elsewhere, upload it to the the Publisher service, which doesn't actually create any gallery and then I have to add pictures to the album.
I may be dense but this Beginner's Guide is somehow unclear. If I purchased the bundle, it is because I wanted to use the Publisher. So the whole process description shouldn't involve any FTP client.
Also, the video available here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7rP-fR_ja4o give significantly different instructions than those in the Beginner's Guide. So which one is the right one ?
no trouble at all. Hope your hosting company can get it straightened out
I switched to a Linux hosting today. Problem fixed.
Strange. I have a Linux hosting ?!?! I'll look into this.
Well, I thought I had a Linux Hosting. Something went wrong with the hosting service. I'll try to get that fixed and try again the ttg-eb installation.
Sorry for the trouble.
You're on a Windows IIS server. TTG requirements call for use on Apache servers running Linux.

The order doesn't really matter, but ttg-be does need to be in place before Pages will work properly.
that link isn't to your actual site, is it?
The actual link is http://www.ppphoto.fr/ttg-be/admin/ .
You can temporarily access the PHP config by using this link :
http://www.ppphoto.fr/test2.php
Thanks.
Hi,
In which order should the various packages of the Web Publishing bundle be installed ?
I started with ttg-be which is now copied to the root of my web site. However, trying to access http://www.myweb.fr/ttg-be/admin/ results in error 500 :

What should I do now?
Thanks in advance.
I would be surprised if they didn't support the TTG requirements. They're pretty common.
Yes, the required extensions are supported. I just ran a quick PHP test script. Well, It seems that it's now time to have a closer look at CE4...
Just in case you were thinking of upgrading to the latest Lightroom
Thanks Rod,
Too late :-( . I installed LR CC, tested everything except the Web module, uninstalled LR5 and also noticed afterwards that these old versions of TTG Pages and Highslide CE had a problem with the new internal web viewer of LR. The symptom is that the gallery page is briefly (and correctly) displayed but is immediately replaced with a blank window. However, when using the "Preview in browser..." button, everything appears to be correct. So I guess I can still work in semi-blind mode.
Anyway, I'm not sure that my web hosting service supports the SQLite/PDO extensions for PHP. In which case, this would mean bye-bye to TTG. Sigh!
Hi,
I'm currently running an old version of TTG Page (3.7.3 ) and TTG CE Highslide (3.1.5) and I'd like to upgrade to CE4. With these old versions, I only needed PHP on my host. Now I see in the CE4 Pages requirements that the SQLite and PDO PHP extensions are needed. Is that correct or a mistake in the Requirements description for CE4 Pages ?
Also, automatic indexation of new galleries was included in these old TTG Pages + TTG Highslide packages (that is, uploading a new gallery to a new subfolder automatically generated a new entry in my Galleries page). Should I now get the CE4 Publisher package to get this feature ?
Thanks in advance.
