#126 Re: Backlight Support » Juxtapose help » 2016-10-19 07:28:32

Have a look at my example album now.
I went to the Image Settings section of my album template and set the width to the maximum of 2000 and height to 640.
I had to reupload the images. The moment when the size is applied is the upload. not the rendering of the page.
Backlight has applied the height constraint to both. I now have a portrait and a landscape comparison both with a height of 640.
As the proportions are maintained the width constraint to 2000 is not in effect.
This is what I would have expected.

#127 Re: Backlight Support » Juxtapose help » 2016-10-19 06:15:41

I also tried Juxtapose now and found no problem mixing portrait and landscape images in one album as long as the images are in correct order. I arranged them pairwise in LR before uploading. #1 and #2 (both vertical) are treated as the first comparison and #3 and #4 (both horizontal) as the second. I even tried mixing them up just to see if the correct order can be reestablished by republishing without sending the actual photos. I rearranged them to #3, #2, #4, #1 in LR and still had two comparisons.
This time a landscape and a portrait image were compared which is not desirable in most cases but at least does not break the page and can be mended by changing order in LR again.

My example is here: http://fotos.michilge.de/galleries/unterwegs/Handsker/ I leave it online for some time in case You want to take a look.

What might be considered as a limitation is that for each pair a full-size juxtaposition is built. There are no thumbnails from which to chose which image pair will be loaded into one comparison.
This might be an idea for further development.
For my purposes the way it works is perfectly OK. To communicate the overall style of a series with a client I rarely use more than one example.

What I found but believe to be an issue of JuxtaposeJS instead of Backlight is that in Firefox a vertical slider does not work properly. When I click on the slider to move it, the mouse-pointer jumps to a position 160px above the slider. I can't move the slider to the top and once it has been moved to the 160px-high area on the bottom it can't be pulled up at all.
But such a problem has been reported for JuxtaposeJS in other context.

What might be of interest for people who use the Wordpress Theme for Backlight:
There is a working Juxtapose-plugin for WP by Federico Cingolani that integrates JuxtaposeJS into WP. The plugin is hosted on GitHub, but the installation is standard WP-style. And the appearance is consitent with the way Juxtapose looks and behaves in Backlight. The images can be uploaded to WP and need not be sent to Northwestern University Knight Lab.

An example post on my blog is here: http://fotos.michilge.de/blog/juxtapose … stalliert/

Since you're referencing the font location in the css file, I don't think you actually need to put anything in the Google Fonts Statement field.

If I had it in my custom.css within the backlight tree, that would be right as long custom.css is activated.

I could probably rely on future updates or reinstallations not to do harm to the /backlight/custom tree, but somehow I tended to put it outside.

#129 Re: Backlight Support » Google Fonts » 2016-10-16 23:38:57

I can even enter multiple font-families.
In my case "Lato, LatoLatinWeb" would end up using Lato if it is installed as a system font and fall back to the self hosted latin subset if Lato is not present locally.

#130 Re: Backlight Support » Google Fonts » 2016-10-16 22:57:22

Yes,  indeed. It's as open and straightforward as I had hoped it would be. The only thing to keep in mind is to notice if the stylesheet provided with the fonts uses numbers to specify font-weight or elsewise needs modification.

#131 Re: Backlight Support » Adding an album to a two-column Backlight page makes tray 1 disappear » 2016-10-16 10:08:30

User & Pass have been sent.

The page http://fotos.michilge.de/services.php is designed with the backlight identifier "services".

#132 Re: Backlight Support » Google Fonts » 2016-10-16 09:40:32

I just managed to use self hosted webfonts with backlight

This is how:
I created a directory outside the Backlight hierarchy (actually in the root of my site where the folder "backlight" also lies) and put the CSS with the webfont definitions there. In this directory I also created a subdir named "fonts" where I put my eot, woff, woff2 and ttf files.
In the "Google Fonts Statement" field of my templates I entered a link to this local stylesheet

<link href="http://fotos.michilge.de/mhfonts/latolatinfonts_mh.css" rel="stylesheet" type='text/css'>

I edited the stylesheet that came with my fontpackage to contain only the variations I really want to use and changed the property "font-weight" according to the convention followed by google fonts from something like "font-weight: bold;" to "font-weight: 700;" and so on since the numerical weights is what I can choose in backlight.

A sample declaration from my Stylesheet would be:

/* Webfont: LatoLatin-Regular */@font-face {
    font-family: 'LatoLatinWeb';
    src: url('fonts/LatoLatin-Regular.eot'); /* IE9 Compat Modes */
    src: url('fonts/LatoLatin-Regular.eot?#iefix') format('embedded-opentype'), /* IE6-IE8 */
         url('fonts/LatoLatin-Regular.woff2') format('woff2'), /* Modern Browsers */
         url('fonts/LatoLatin-Regular.woff') format('woff'), /* Modern Browsers */
         url('fonts/LatoLatin-Regular.ttf') format('truetype');
    font-style: normal;
    font-weight: 400;
    text-rendering: optimizeLegibility;
}

The field "Prepend Font-family w/" must contain the value of the "font-family"-property so in my case "LatoLatinWeb".

Why should one want this?
The font I use is not available via Google Fonts.
I have visitors concerned about their privacy who don't like google to get a call for the fonts with a referrer from the pages they view.

#133 Re: Backlight Support » Adding an album to a two-column Backlight page makes tray 1 disappear » 2016-10-16 08:36:06

I went through everything again and still can't find a reason why it doesn't work.

Would You mind having a look at the Backlight side if I mail You a user and password?

#134 Re: Backlight Support » Adding an album to a two-column Backlight page makes tray 1 disappear » 2016-10-10 08:26:00

edit: Ah. Found this one http://rodbarbee.com/galleries/4-personal-favorites/

In my case it is not an album page but one of the pages designed with Designer >> Pages.

Making my first moves in Backlight I added a second column to an existing Backlight page by assigning a newly cloned page template.
The text pasted into "Tray 01 Copy" showed up just fine.

After adding an album beneath the content, that album appeared in the main column but the content of the narrower column disappeared. This affects both large screen and mobile.

Looking into the resulting html the line "<div class="page__column page__tray" data-position="T1">" still is there, but the content is empty.

Can someone reproduce this or should I set up a temporary example?
See http://fotos.michilge.de/services.php The passage below the heading "Druck" should be in the right column also, but isn't there.

#137 Re: Backlight Support » About Page and Contact Page will not be found » 2016-10-08 07:33:39

Both are sent by mail.

It is an update to an exisiting site.
I There are some old pages from CE4-Pages lying around which I have renamed.
Sorry for the mess, but I would prefer updating the old stuff over a new install because there is a lot of fotos in existing galleries an I'm low on bandwidth and can't reupload everything easily.

Hello,

I just started adjusting my first template for pages. Saved it, made it default.
As ther was no effect to be seen, I tried to go to "Assign templates" an got this.

Unexpected error: Call to a member function selectRowOrNull() on boolean in AssignTemplateHelper.php on line 53

#140 Re: Backlight Support » About Page and Contact Page will not be found » 2016-10-08 06:32:44

I'm experiencing the same problem.
When I set "Page URL Format" to "about" or "about/" and reload the page with the menu, I get a 404 error.
When I turn it back to "about.php" and reload the page with the menu again, my pages are found.

I did copy the .htaccess file to the directory my backlight/ and galleries/ reside in and also cleared my template cache after changing to "about".

#141 Re: Backlight Support » Wordpress » 2016-08-30 00:20:17

For now I tend to postpone migration from CE4 until a Backlight-based WP-Theme will be available and then aproach a complete overhaul of my historically grown WP+CE4-Pages+CRG+Galleries+Autoindex Setup.

Will the Theme be out within the discount period or should I consider asking for an offer before?
I don't want to push You and have always appreciated that You make announcements responsibly.
Just don't want to miss the opportunity.

#142 Re: CE4 Auto Index » Does CE4 Auto Index work with Client Response Galleries? » 2015-03-13 01:09:38

It seems like You convinced Matthew to make a video ;-)

I just received the link and watched it.
http://theturninggate.net/2015/03/ce4-i … -to-video/

As a person who already went through all the steps mentioned with help of written documentation and advice from the community, I find it a helpful entry point into setup of a CE4 site. My compliments.

As CE4 is a complex system with to many possible combinations, to be covered in the sequential form of a video, I testify that the ttg community is what helped me most setting up my site.

#143 Re: CE4 Client Response Gallery » Translations? » 2015-03-10 18:29:57

I stumbled over a tiny element You seem to have missed.

In the root of the breadcrumbs trail it says "Your galleries".

#144 Re: CE4 Theme for WordPress » Solved: Multilevel Navigation broken in WP » 2015-03-04 07:03:55

Hi Rod,

Thank You for Your advice.
I should have done that earlier.

I just remembered that Matthew wrote something about that "no-conflict" keyword last spring when I had trouble with photoswipe in combination with that old GPX-Viewer.

I deactivated the no-conflict mode in that plugin already last year, but an update of the plugin introduced the same trouble again. I wasn't aware I updated that ...
Stupid me.

Sorry for bothering with the same cause again.

And Thank You again.
Michael

There is no caching plugin installed.

When I'll be on the outside of this firewall again, I will edit the four positions listed in my console and replace "$" by "jQuery" and see if that might do any better.

I told someone here at work who didn't have time to examine but mumbled about a "no-conflict" mode before he left.

Of course I will report afterwards.

Hi Rod, hi Matthew,

thank You for Your quick response.

I did both of that. I made changes to the menu and saved, changed back and saved over.

The WP-Menu appears correctly in galleries, autoindex pages and even the newly installed CRG. So PHPlugins can be assumed to work.

It is strange only on WP pages. When viewed on the PC, the menu just lacks the lower levels. On handhelds the collapsed menu button won't expand anything, just move the page to top.

I looked into the browser console and it says:

TypeError: $ is not a function

Line 1

Line 11

TypeError: $ is not a function
http://fotos.michilge.de/blog/wp-content/themes/CE4WP310/lib/js/init.defer.min.js

I'm not experienced in Javascript. Is there further information I can provide?

Best wishes,
Michael

I just updated CE4 Theme for WP from 3.04 to 3.10.

After activating the Theme in WP and setting up my sidebar again, I found that the Multilevel Navigation does not work as it used to do.

Strange enough on the CE4 Pages based pages it is inherited correctly by phplugins.
Only in WP itself the lower levels don't appear when I hover my mouse over the top level entry that has sublevels.

I found some errors in the Firebug console but couldn't nail the problem down.

Is ther someone with an idea?

#148 Re: CE4 Publisher » Publisher: Can’t password protect album - it’s grayed out » 2014-10-19 06:29:55

Hello Rolf,

did You check "Enable Password Protection" in Lightroom?
It's located in section "Ausgabeeinstellungen"

Concerning the other problem. Not sure how You got it. Tabs and spaces in connection with the proportional typeface may distort the levels in Your post. My directory structure is

ttg-be/templates/gallery
ttg-be/templates/autoindex

The autoindex templates can be edited when an album set is right-clicked "Album Set bearbeiten", while gallery templates require right-clicking on an album "Album bearbeiten"

#149 Re: CE4 Publisher » Album Sets and "Publish" button » 2014-08-22 06:10:04

Well, on my Win7 Computer LR respectively CE4 Publisher behaves exactly the way You expect.
But if I change the settings of my Publisher service concerning things like e.g. watermarking or file naming, I'm prompted whether I want all photos published with this service republished.
At least after I forced the photos in an album to be republished completely ,the "publish" Button gets greyed out.
LR will not notice if You edit an anlbum's or an album set's settings. If You change an album to enable maps or use another template or show another number of photos on one page or things like that, my "publish" button stays grey. To forcibly publish I must right-click the album name and choose "Jetzt veröffentlichen" which certainly be will be "Publish now" in english installations. Publishing changes that affect not the photos but just the album is very quick.

#150 Re: CE4 Publisher » Breadcrumbs text » 2014-08-22 00:58:55

Hi Volker,

when You export Your CE4 Pages Output, look in the folder on Your local computer You just exported into.
There will be a subfolder "galleries" with a file gallery.xml. Ftp this to the galleries folder on the server and everything will be alright.

PS: I can't access Your site from here because the checkpoint firewall won't let me. I'll take a look as soon as I'm home.

Regards,
Michael
