#76 Re: Backlight Support » Cookie Consent » 2018-06-03 00:14:28

Have been following this post with keen interest. I've manged to get the cookie consent warning to appear very nicely. But there's just one thing bugging me, well...vexing me, actually. Pixelmover has his warning link to a cookie-consent page that opens in a new window. Daniel has his warning link to a cookie-consent page that opens in the same window. I'm assuming this is an "a href target="_blank"  thing or an "a href target="_self" thing but I'll be an expletive deleted if I can figure out where that's hiding. Thought I had it tracked down the center of that big block of code in cookieconsent.min.js but I was wrong. My cookie_consent warning links to a page that open in a new window and I'd dearly love to have it open in the same window. What's the secret?

They should be part of your LR catalog. If you've a recent catalog backup, restore the catalog from backup and they should be there.

#79 Backlight Support » Can't seem to get breadcrumbs working for non-gallery pangolin pages » 2018-02-03 20:30:10

I've been fooling around with Daniel's method of adding breadcrumbs to standard pangolin pages without much luck. I've basically copied and pasted the code from here: http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … hp?id=8430 to my custom phplugins file, ftp'd it to the server, cleared the template and browser caches, gave it a "hail-Mary" an sent it on its way. Phplugins is enabled in the page template and the php file it points to is correct.
Site is at https://markhoffmanphotography.com The pages in question are Services, About and Contact.
Tried changing the page reference in the code to an absolute address but that had no effect.
Anyone else using this code who has run into this?

It's been awhile since we saw a new year but didn't the copyright date on a Backlight page used to update automatically? Mine isn't.
Mark

Addendum: Just discovered I can force the date to update to the current year by logging on to backlight admin and manually clearing the cache. FYI

#81 Re: Backlight Support » Wordpress Pangolin theme posts seem to lose responsiveness » 2017-12-21 08:31:50

Daniel, it isn't there anymore because I fixed it. Using Rod's idea about wrapping the embedded code in a responsive grid and changing some width settings in the code did the trick.

#83 Re: Backlight Support » Wordpress Pangolin theme posts seem to lose responsiveness » 2017-12-20 04:07:59

Rod, that embedded code is a custom field added in Wordpress post editor. Works real well but not responsive. Tried stripping out the doctype stuff, body, etc. Code still works but problem persists. So next I'll try your idea of giving it a custom class and go after it with css. Thanks for the suggestions.
Mark

Oh, and it is very definitely that embedded code that is causing the trouble. When I remove the custom fields containing the code the responsiveness problem goes away. So, good call on your part! Really appreciate the help.!

#84 Re: Backlight Support » Wordpress Pangolin theme posts seem to lose responsiveness » 2017-12-20 01:08:25

Think so. Backlight-Pages at 123, release 3. Wordpress at 125. Let me re-export the WP theme just to be sure. Gimme a minute...
Mark

Ok Backlight WP theme re-exported. Problem persists.

No doubt this is a user error on my part because Wordpress and I get along poorly.
My WP site is beautifully responsive down to any width to which I crush it. Single posts however are only responsive down to a width of about 700px. Have dabbled a bit with custom CSS to get .the__copy, or .content or a few other things to change width to no avail. Might there be a backlight setting somewhere that has an effect on post width or breakpoint ?

First post will demonstrate my problem. If you open it and crush the viewport to iphone size the right side of the post goes off the screen.
Thanks

#86 Re: Backlight Support » Captions where they shouldn't be in Juxtapose Gallery in Wordpress » 2017-11-30 09:19:36

Hadn't thought of that, Rod, but you're absolutely right! That worked perfectly.
By the way I've followed your lead and am munching my way through  "CSS: The Missing Manual".
Endless revelations there. Powerful stuff.
Many thanks,

I like the gallery short code for adding juxtaposed images in a Wordpress post but that gallery is adding captions under the images when no captions have been added to the images in the media library. Specifically the captions "1. and 2. " appear under the images, Just the numerals and a period, that's all. I don't see a way to disable that. Is there one?

Peter, your site seems to be working fine. I notice no slowness in clicking about the site, at least compared to my usual browsing methods.

Just beware of Lightroom's virtual copies. Using them in albums seems to work poorly.

#90 Re: Backlight Support » 2018 LR Plugins seem to be missing something » 2017-10-22 23:06:46

Well that was so obvious it's embarrassing.  An LRWEBENGINE is not the same thing as an LRPLUGIN. Backlight has spoiled me and I've gotten so used to not using the web module in LR that I just figured everything in the known universe was Backlight based. So I will graciously accept the "DUH!! Award" this week. Nothing more to see here folks, move along.
Thanks Rod

#91 Re: Backlight Support » 2018 LR Plugins seem to be missing something » 2017-10-22 22:49:21

Hmmm, although all three .lrwebengine folders are there LR doesn't see them automatically. You still on LR pre-CC classic?
Mark

Wait a minute... lrwebengine vs lrplugin. I've been laboring under an illusion. Give me a bit while I go back at this. While I try to keep my head up at all times it sometimes gets locked in the wrong position, in other words, I think I've been looking in the wrong direction.

#92 Re: Backlight Support » 2018 LR Plugins seem to be missing something » 2017-10-22 18:00:43

Hi Rod, Yes I saw the folder within the folder and have the correct folder in the Lightroom/Web Galleries/ folder along with all the other .lrplugins, many of them from TTG versions dating back to 1200BC, I think. Error persists.
Thanks Mark

Addendum: have re-DL'd the 3 plugins, re-unzipped, and copied the .lrplugins folder to the /lightroom/web galleries directory. Lightroom CC Classic won't install these plugins, same error as original message.

Addendum 2: FTR I get the exact same error on my Windows Laptop when I try to add the plugins in Lightroom. The laptop is also on Lightroom CC Classic.

Um...I got the new 2018 LR Plugins. Unzipped em and moved the .lrplugins to the web galleries where I assume I add them via plugin manager. I get: An error occurred while attempting to load this plugin. Plus the instructions in the downloads say to copy the "2016-HTML-Gallery_template" to a directory... there is no 2016-HTML-Gallery-Template in any of the downloads. Where might I find such a thing?
I'm using the newly released LR CC Classic, if that has any bearing on the plugin manager errors.
Thanks, Mark

#94 Re: General » To Lightroom or not to Lightroom » 2017-10-19 22:53:20

Matt, Is that a standalone app I smell lurking in the shadows? Something that does FTP to a Backlight installation from the desktop? Hints?

#95 Re: General » To Lightroom or not to Lightroom » 2017-10-19 19:37:03

Lightroom certainly holds all the cards but recent announcements by Adobe are troublesome. Have looked seriously at Alien Skin's Exposure, now in version X3, and ON1 Photo Raw and use parts of both of them daily. Wonderful as they are they still lack LR's versatility. Have Affinity Photo and have also looked at Capture One, both nice but not quite the best solution. While we know that nothing stays the same and adaptability is a necessary trait of a photographer the move to having everything in the cloud seems like a bad idea for dozens of reasons. Grandma always said "don't put all your eggs in one basket". My take on that is "don't put all your eggs in a cloud basket". And a really smart database programmer I met a long time ago said it even better: If you trust your data to someone else you deserve what you get.

#96 Re: Backlight Support » Lightroom Catalog Question... » 2017-10-05 18:53:39

Opinions seem to differ wildly. Here's mine: I use a single LR catalog and have 17 years worth of images in it. It's huge! I use collections in LR extensively, handy because a single image can be in many different collections. I use many, many instances of Backlight Publisher to control where online images end up. I tried multiple LR catalogs once and found they quickly became unmanageable. Oh, and I backup that catalog every time LR exits. I've had to use that backup on more than one occasion due to clobbered hard drives and the like.

Rod, That is an inspired idea! Probably easiest to use the inline styling too...yes?
Many Thanks

#98 Re: Backlight Support » Trying to add some text to the cart form using phplugins... » 2017-09-26 18:38:05

Tried that. The only choices in the drop down box for cart templates are page templates, no album templates.

I have a page template solely for the cart (too bad I can't seem to use an album template). So it seems i'm constrained to using phplugins to add things to the page. I've been trying to stick some text in the page with the ttg_copy_top function but that doesn't seem to be working. Hook looks like this:

function ttg_copy_top( $style, $path ) {
    echo 'Here is some text.';
return true;
} // END

Other hooks on the page are working.
No doubt something simple or stupid that I've done. A club on the head would be most helpful if anyone's got one.
