#76 Re: CE4 Pages » Navigation item - how can I set a background color when selected? » 2015-06-23 16:01:07

One more thing:

When I go into subpages (portfolio section or return page of contact form), the selection is not applied anymore. Is there a way to include all the subpages of a menu item?

Thanx

Hi,

is there a way I can implement that the navigation items show a certain background color, when they are selected, so that the viewer can easily see, which page he is on? I don't see any way to do it in Pages CE4.

I set up my menu, so that the background color changes to blue, when hovering over an item. I would like it to stay that color, when it is actually selected, so that the viewer knows which page he is on at the moment.

Can this be done by CSS code or does it need more to that?

Thanks

Peter

#79 CE4 Pages » Adblock in Safari 8.0.6 on 10.10.3 blocks social media sharing buttons » 2015-06-16 20:00:27

Hi,

I just realized, that all the sharing buttons except the Mail button are blocked by Adblock in latest Safari. I added my site as an exception now and they all show up again, but a lot of people using Safari will also use Adblock and thus will not see these buttons at all.
On Safari with Adblock in 10.6.8 they are not blocked and Firefox also displays them fine.

Is there a work around so that Adblock will show them with default block settings? Otherwise it is pretty useless to even use them on the page, since most people will use an Adblocker.

Cheers

#80 CE4 Gallery » My first impressions of Gallery CE4 » 2015-05-05 03:29:30

I used the very simple and nice "Elegance" theme from photographers toolbox for my CE3 Pages homepage, but I was not really happy with the scaling for mobile devices.

That's why I bought Gallery CE4 now, since I redid my page in pages CE4 and because the CE4 is being marketed as made for the mobile device scaling.
But I must say, that for me it is a sobering experience so far. I spend all day today trying out all sort of combinations in Gallery and none does really fit my needs or expectation. I like things to be extremly simple and clean.

The "Touch" presentation for large images to me really seems like the only option that does work half way intuitive on touch mobile devices. But here are the points, that I do not quite understand:

1. If it is designed as a slideshow, why can't it auto start? And when it runs as a slide show, there should be an option to hide the arrows for a clean look.

2. If I click on an image while the show is running, I would expect it to advance to the next image or halt the show. Not blend in the slideshow user interface, which by the way has fuzzy looking icons on my 27 iMac and on my iPhone as well.

3. Transition: Why can't I have the choice of a simple and nice Fade like in the Pages slide show? I think the way the images are yanked in looks brutal to my eye and it sort of shakes me up every time the next image moves in. It looks like a Blitzkrieg, sorry, my gut feeling. I would not want this kind of hectic presentation for potential clients.
If I can edit the speed it rolls in and make that way slower in a php file, I would gladly do that. A simple Fade would be more desirable.

4. Why do I need the arrows at all on an iPhone? We are used to move to the next photo by sliding our finger over it on iPad and iPhone. There is no need for arrows really. And they distruct my images, since they are hovering over every image, does not look clean and not very pro to me.
On the iPad mini the arrows are hovering over the very edges of the vertical images and are smack on the horizontals. It is just very distracting to the eye, especially when viewing images with clean backdrops.

5. Thumbnail grid on Mac looks great, on my phone it fills in squares and cuts off the images. I want an option to see the whole image, just like it is displayed on the Mac. Some of the thumbnails look really blurry, others look ok, why is that so?

Maybe I have not seen all the options and choices to customize the gallery and some things can already be done as is? I really think, that one should have the chioce to hide the arrows on mobile devices. They are just obstructing a clean view of the images and look bloody big on the iPhone and iPad mini.

No hard feelings, this is meant as constructive criticism!

If someone has ideas how to work around some of these issues, please let me know, thanx.

Cheers

Yeah, I should have named them the same way, just because it is easier later on when having to deal with the paths. Since I set up the sudomain

pagesce4.petervogel.com

that is pointing directly to the folder

testsite_pages_ce4

on the server, it doesn't really matter and should work anyway. I notices though while working with them, that it is kind of confusing to work with different namings. Well...anyway, it is working now again:

Hi Rod,

the solution to the problem is found!

I just did some error hunting with a freind of mine who knows php pretty well. The problem was, that php is looking for the publisher plugin, which I don't have!
And the reason why it is looking for that ist, that in PAGES CE4 I set under Gallery the

"Allow Page Replacement by CE4 Publisher"

from "no" to "yes".

I thought that was sort of like ticking the phplugin function in case I might need it some day, since it was recommended in the manual.

So, you might want to warn people only to set this option to yes, if they already have CE4 Publisher installed!

Thanks for the quick help though!

I have been reinstalling the whole thing 3x times now and it just does not work anymore. I don't get it, since it did work just fine before. There is really nothing I have changed.

The only progress I have: All menu items work, just the home index.php page gives me this error! I didn't think about trying the other menues with direct links yesterday.

I guess a homepage doesn't really need an index page;-))

I have the ttg-be folder sitting on the top level of the same folder as my pages installation, unzipped and it worked up until today.
Ok, I exported the site now and used Fetch to upload it. Same thing:

http://pagesce4.petervogel.com/version01/

If I log into the ttg-be/admin and check the plugins, I get a Forbidden 403 error page.

Odd.

Does it not say, it is missing areference to the php 5.6 version in line 30 of the init.php file? Very strange.

Hi,

I have been working on porting my old CE3 to Pages CE4. All worked just fine, when I did changes to the template, I saved them and uploaded them to the server with the lightroom ftp feature. I did it all day yesterday and also today.

When Reloading the page in the browser, I suddenly got this error message:

-----------------------------------------------

Warning: include_once(./ttg-be/publisher/application/config/config.php): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /homepages/.............../htdocs/testsite_pages_ce4/version01/ttg-be/framework/init.php on line 30

------------------------------------------------

I deleted everything in my "version01" folder on the server now and reinstalled all from scratch, also ttg-be. Still, I get the same error message.

I have no clue what is going on and how I can fix that? I never had anything like that in CE3. I checked the php version on the server and it is 5.6.

Any help would be great.

Thanks

Hi Rod,

ok, the structure seems to dawn on me slowly....;-)

Hi,

I just redid my CE3 Pages page in Pages CE4. For the galleries in CE3 I used the elegance theme, but that does not seem to scale well with mobile devices.

So I just purchased TTG CE4 Gallery and am puzzeld, because everything looks like Pages CE4 in the adjustment pane?¿? Do I have to redo my whole page in Gallery CE4 now? Why did I buy Pages in the first place then, if Gallery includes that basically? What am I missing here?

I thought that I would just design the look of my galleries in the CE4 Gallery module, export them and drop them into the gallery folder on the server. That's how it used to be with the elegance theme.

I would greatly appreciate some enlightment on this matter! I spend a hell of a lot of time redoing my site in Pages CE4 and would hate to have to do all that again in Gallery.

Thanks and cheers

Hi,

Was this problem resolved and when yes, what was the solution?

I am having the same problem with the contact form and the SMTP.1und1.com server. I get basically the same return code.

Hi Rod,

ok, thanks, sounds great.

So can I also let both Auto Index versions 3 and 4 be in there?

Hi,

I just bought CE4 Pages and wonder, if that can peacefully coexist with CE3 Pages within Lightroom 3? Can I also drop in Auto-Index 4 without removing version 3?

Since I read in the notes, that I have to basically redo my CE 3 page from ground up in 4, it would help me a lot to be able to switch back and forth between CE3 and CE 4 within Lighroom. If that is not possible, I would probably update my page with frech pics first in CE3 before trying to move the whole thing to CE 4 later on.

#94 General » Display Quality of pictures on different devices » 2013-06-01 02:39:10

Hi,

I would like to know, how people deal with the difference in display quality on different devices?

I use the following set up:

1. iMac 27" with calibrated display and web reference monitor

2. Apple Cinema Display 23" - calibrated and print reference monitor

3. iPad mini - I guess no user calibration possible

4. iPod touch 4th Gen. - no user calibration possible

Normal color pictures look almost tidentical on all devices. The "normal" viewer wil not see any difference anyway.

I do have a lot of Black and White photos, that somtimes are low key and have big dark areas with good and important tonal detail, when looking at them on my iMac or ACD. If I look at them on the iPad mini or iPod touch, the tonal detail is almost gone and the areas look like they are completely black (which of course they are not). That is the case especially on the iPad mini.

I thought that these devices and screens were optimized to display sRGB color space images, but evidently they are not really. I don't know how much lee way there is in production of the screens as far as contrast and color is concerned? Maybe I just happen to have an iPad mini, which just barely made the tolerance limits and thus has little details in blacks?

Now I wonder if other photographers on the forum here have noticed such fairly big differences and if so, do you just leave it as is or how do you go about it?
If I raise my very dark tones on those images to the point where they show as intended on the iPad mini, they would not look good at all on my iMac. I know that most people will look at images on non-calibrated monitors and they might look even worse there, but I am still of the opinion, that the images should look perfect on a calibrated monitor as far as tonal range and color is concerned as a known standard.

Some insights on that would be appreciated!

Cheers
