#51 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Updating from very early TTG » 2019-03-26 03:32:08

So, if I understand correctly, because I couldn't find a galleries and so created one, I should delete the page I created and henceforth access the Galleries page through Publisher/top level galleries/galleries.  That will be a huge help to me.  Thank you.
It would be a huge boost to my productivity if I could get the autorefresh to work.  The icon with the spinning wheel is visible bottom right.  It stops or starts spinning with a click.  I have also tried appending my url with ?autoRefresh.  But that does not work either.  Any suggestions?

Follow up on previous post.  I found the installation video.  I attempted created a Galleries page but got a message that the page already exists.  BUt it is not in the list of pages?  So I created a new Galleries Page with a different identifier (new).  I modified the text, saved and refreshed but still no change when clicking the Galleries menu item.
In addition, the autoRefresh function is not working. Sure would be helpful if it did.

Problem setting up.
I have a menu item "Galleries" which was part of the default setup.  In designer it is set to link to: Album Set.  The only album set choice available is "Galleries".  When I view Templates/Album Set Templates, I see "Galleries" listed.  I chose design and enter text in Album copy, main copy  and pallet 1.  Save and refresh page but no change is noted. Somewhere back in the documentation I thought I read that the Galleries menu was already set up in backlight, that I would just need to add albums.  I cannot find that reference now.  How is the Galleries set up in backlight2 default.  Where do I go to edit text on the Galleries menu item?

#54 Re: Backlight 2 Support » LR publisher » 2019-03-20 04:18:39

I have installed Backlight 2 and am building my site.  I am using Google Chrome Version 72.0.3626.121
I have created some pages and am using the default page  template which I have modified. I saved a clone of the original.
In addition to others, I created a Services page utilising the modified default page template.  With much finagling I managed to get the text into individual lines for each service.  I cannot seem to find any way to increase the size of the font either on the "page design" or the "template design" pages.  Here is a link to my problem page:   http://denniskeyesphotography.com/backl … /Services/

What would that Home button link to?

#56 Re: Backlight 2 Support » LR publisher » 2019-03-18 09:01:31

OK.  I see the publisher item now.

Corrected API key and successfully authenticated and published a test album.  Now I just need to resolve the issue I described in the email with the pages and albums I created under Galleries.  Another thing I noticed is that there is no home button to get back to the home page.  What am I missing?

#58 Re: Backlight 2 Support » LR publisher » 2019-03-18 08:45:55

This is pasted from the backlight documentation:
"In Backlight's admin menu, click Publisher to see a list of existing top-level galleries".
Which admin menu does this refer to?  I will email you my API key

Thanks Rod, but, as you see in my edited post and now an additional post, I did have the correct url in my procedure, just got it wrong in my post.  The problem now is with authentication and publisher not showing in my admin menu.

#60 Re: Backlight 2 Support » LR publisher » 2019-03-18 08:26:08

And another thing.....
As I was learning how to create pages and albums and album sets, I may have gone overboard. I created albums and album sets linked to pages that I created for use in my top level folder GALLERIES.  After installing the plug in and getting on to create album, it appears that may not have been necessary and may even cause additional problems. Do I need those pages and albums or should I just delete them and create albums with  backlight publisher or in lightroom publisher.  My earlier post describes a problem with authentication.  A problem I am fiding with backlight publisher is that when I click the Admin menu item, the drop down list does not include publisher.  Help!!

It was correct, I just put it in wrong in my message.  See my update.

#62 Re: Backlight 2 Support » LR publisher » 2019-03-18 07:38:12

I installed Publisher.  Downloaded the plug in, unzipped, added in plug in manager.
I used the URL
http://denniskeyesphotography.com/backl … publisher/
because I am building my website inside a temporary folder in my old website which I named backlight-2-test which is in my public folder.  I used the same API key as earlier when installing backlight.
I was able to create an album and put images into the album.
I  right clicked on the album and chose Publish now.  I got an ERROR message:
Can't update this collection,
Unable to perform action: createAlbum
Message: Unable to authenticate

I checked authentication back on the Publishing Manager and got a message:
Authentication check
The authentication check was NOT successful.  Please check the URL and API Key.

I tried changing the url to:http://denniskeyesphotography.com/backlight/publisher/
but got a message:  unable to locate Publisher.
Apparently could find but not authenticate using the url and API I tried first.

How do I authenticate?

Thanks.  I will attempt install.

Is Backlight 2 Publisher compatible with Lightroom 5 or must I update Lightroom?

#65 Re: Backlight 2 Customization » Preparations for installing Backlight » 2019-03-09 09:19:21

My old site did not use publisher.  I read the tips and trick you suggested several times yesterday and came to the conclusion that I am better off just starting over.  I would like to show a screenshot of my ftp client with the new folder but I am not capable (yet) of showing it in the forum or adding to my site somewhere.  It has been 7 years since I built my site.  I remember nothing of how I did it, and am totally foreign to this process.  I guess my question is:  If I created a new folder (backlight-2-test) on my old site, can I just drop the new backlight 2 files right in it and get to work?  And how will I be able to access and test it as I proceed?  Or, is there a better way?

#66 Re: Backlight 2 Customization » Preparations for installing Backlight » 2019-03-09 01:40:21

I would like to attach a screenshot of my FTP Client page showing my old website pages and the new folder, but that does not seem possible in this forum.

#67 Re: Backlight 2 Customization » Preparations for installing Backlight » 2019-03-09 01:32:26

I have purchased Backlight 2.  My old site was an early TTG version.  i do not want to lose it while I update.  After having read the documentation and watching the video and receiving advice from Rod and Matt, I have gone to my existing site on my FTP client.  I added a new folder (Backlight 2 Setup) and am ready to upload the downloaded backlight files. I have configured my FTP to show hidden files.  My plan is to build a test site within this setup folder and eventually delete the old site.  Is this approach going to get me where I want to go?  Is there something I'm missing?  Is there a better way?  I don't want to upload without understanding the consequences.  I am a photographer, not a computer whiz.Thank you for your patience!

Does "JustHost" qualify as standard web hosting and is it compatible with output from TTG plugins?

Thanks for the quick responses.  I will begin by checking out Rod's suggestion.  And I will resign myself to starting over!

I built my website 10??? years ago with an early version of TTG.  I cannot even seem to find the version#. I am ready to get on board with Backlight 2.  I'm sure I will want many of the add on modules.  Can anyone give me a few pointers on how to get started?  My old website is:
