#51 Re: Backlight Support » Strange issue with Search Page » 2016-06-07 01:27:04

well, so it is what I did, but this does not explain why the problem between Search and Galleries.....or at least I do not see it...

#52 Re: Backlight Support » Strange issue with Search Page » 2016-06-07 00:24:26

sorry, I have now a doubt: should the Search item in the Menu  point to a "Search" Page  or to the  URL "/backlight/search/?....

to be clear: each item in  my menu links to a Page, EXCEPT, Search, that links to the URL "/backlight/search/.....

#53 Re: Backlight Support » Strange issue with Search Page » 2016-06-07 00:17:41

well...that's funny.....I have not created the Search Page because it  appeared by itself once I started the site with a Menu that contained the Search Page......therefore,  I thought that it was an implicit page in Backlight......wrong!.....I will create one right now and see what happens....

#54 Re: Backlight Support » Strange issue with Search Page » 2016-06-06 23:44:30

looking at the links with more detail, it appears that when I am in the Search Page, the links to the other pages apper as something like agustinbolzan.com.ar/?page=xxx (xxx=Home, Galleries, etc.)....and not just agustinbolzan.com.ar/xxx.  I wonder what is the reason for the presence of "?page="  in the links

I have discovered that if I go to the Search Page and from there I try to go to Galleries........Galleries Page appears empty!.....I have to click twice on Galleries in order to see the full Galleries Page......this only happens with the Search Page, from any other Page I can go to Galleries without problems.....any clue about this problem?

#57 Re: Backlight Showcase » New Backlight bilingual web site » 2016-06-05 09:39:30

Paul,

what I did was just to create a second instance of backlight in a folder that I denoted as "English", so in the menú I added  "English" linked to the url agustinbolzan.com.ar/english/. For the sake of simplicity I created my Spanish backlight, then downloaded to my pc and once again uploaded to the site, so that, the only thing that I needed at that stage was to translate the texts in Spanish to English (menus and templates were then the same). I did all of this BEFORE creating the galleries (take care with this). Albums were created after so that there was no mesh with the Publisher and Albums (see http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … hp?id=6495 and http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … hp?id=6534, for avoiding some mistakes I did at first).  As I do not see yet (and I do not know if it is at all posible) how to share the same jpg files between both sites, I have two different instances of Publisher in LR, one for Spanish and another for English. This is not complicated, but it means that you have to uploaded the images twice. Not bad, but it requires to be organised, in order to remember always to move an image to two albums and upload two albums at a time. I did something similar in the past using CE4, with Stage and a Flip Gallery for the entrance to th different languages, but although I liked Flip very much I ended considering that it eventually made a little annoying  the entrance of the site: i guess that no one wants to stay waiting to see the show of fullsize  images before entering  into the home page of the sites.

Hope this is what you are asking for....

After learning some tricks from Rod (thanks Rod for your patience), I have eventually removed my web site and replaced it by a one using Backlight. I preferred to start from scratch  instead of exporting CE4 galleries to Backlight. I must say that using Backligth is great, far more easy and comfortable than CE4 (although some settings are not so simple to understand, a better help file is needed). Very fast to build, now one does not have de slow behaviour that CE4 (and CE3) have inside LR. It is very friendly, although it still lacks some features that CE4 has, namely better control of fonts, more options for albums, etc. But for me, the time I spare when creating or modifying my web site is more important. I guess that all the things that I now miss will be added in the near future.......but now.....I have only to worry and manage Publisher in LR, the rest is past!....great job Matt!

Now I have to improve the exported images (I see that watermarks need to be refined, for instance, and some titles are missing), but this is work for LR. What I do not know yet, is if one can work with only one set of uploaded images or each backlight implementation ([backlight] and [english][backlight] in my case), needs its proper folder with jpg files or they can share a common jpg folder,....and spare uploading work and time)....

Is there any way to put the page numbers in the galleries at the bottom of the page? At the moment they appear on top of the thumbnails, but I would prefer to put them at the bottom in order to show thumbnails immediately below the title of the gallery (I feel that the page numbers disrupt the presentation of the images).

Revising the Settings I found that maybe the problem was that the name of the first template was "Black & White"?.....maybe Backlight does not like the "&" symbol....

#63 Re: Backlight Support » Error in Search Page » 2016-06-01 01:08:57

Yep!...it worked!.....but to tell you the truth I do not understand why.....first of all, what is the meaning of the Search Template?, because I see that there one can select one of the Album Templates created (probably the first one that Search was trying to use till now was one that is no more present in the site), but these are templates for Albums and they don't appear in the Search Page as is at all, so I wonder how does it works....

rod barbee wrote:

Try reassigning a template to the search page

how?.....I find the "Search" item only in the Design Menu Set, and there one finds Link (to URL: backlight/search/). Therefore, I have not assign a template to this Item, just put the URL of the site, as I did with the main Spanish site and worked fine...

Following the debugging process of my new Backlight site, I find now that the Search page does not work as expected, as I get a red message with the following text: "Unable to find template with id 3. Try updating the selected template for the application. in EngineFactory.php on line 97". What does it mean?.....this happens only with my english version of the site, which is located under the [english]/[backlight] folder. I modified the Backlight Settings indicating the new URL, but seems that it was not enough for the Search tool.

You were right!!!.......now everything runs fine!......evidently the problem was with the data in the publisher folder...thanks!

#67 Re: Backlight Support » almost there...but problem with galleries » 2016-05-31 01:55:28

thanks for the suggestion. I will try it this evening once I am at home with LR in front of me. I will let you know if this worked....or not.....but it sounds something possible that the problem is in the publisher due to the copy of the entire spanish blacklight folder to another folder....english folder

#68 Re: Backlight Support » almost there...but problem with galleries » 2016-05-31 01:25:23

yes, I updated the URL and copied also the .htaccess file

#69 Re: Backlight Support » almost there...but problem with galleries » 2016-05-31 00:48:01

Yes, I have published one gallery there...but cannot access to it...I was thinking to remove the whole [english] folder and restart it from scratch.....but I am not sure if this will solve the problem....

I have almost finished my upgrade from CE4 to Backlight for my bilingual site. I have finished the Spanish verision first, then downloaded the folder backlight to my PC and uploaded via ftp once again to my site, but this time to the [english] folder. Everything run fine...except that I cannot enter into de galleries (http://agustinbolzan.com.ar/english/galleries/)....what I get is "You don't have permission to access /english/galleries/ on this server."......the structure of my web site is

[backlight]
[galleries]
[english] -> [backlight]
                  [galleries]

the difference I find is that in the first level galleries folder I find the file lib.php, index.php,gallery.xml and .htaccess, but in the second level of galleries (under [english]) I do not find these files......is this normal?

so, what should I do in order to have access to my english galleries?...the rest of the site runs fine....

#71 Backlight Support » Home Page with Photoswipe » 2016-05-27 00:25:35

Solved my problems with galleries and albums, now I would like to know if it is possible, under the present state of development of Backlight,  to show a Photoswipe in the Home page, as it was possible with CE4. I created a Home Page album in LR with the idea to use it in the Home Page for showing few images in a Photoswipe style. But what I find is that I get are thumbnails that turn into Photoswipe once I click in one of them. But I want to show a series of single large images in my Home Page without the presence of thumbnails......

#72 Re: Backlight Support » Galleries » 2016-05-27 00:17:51

What you say sounds quite correct, but the problem is that it is not  something straighforward and it is not clarified in the documentation (although I must recognise that the documentation is still under development).

#73 Re: Backlight Support » Galleries » 2016-05-26 23:54:35

Yes Rod, now with your explanation I find all very clear, but from my point of view this is not so clear when you start working with Backlight......maybe am I wrong, but I find that the "text" that one writes in any Page Copy box in the Pages should be what one eventually sees in the corresponding Page, and at least is what it happens with the rest of Pages (Info, About, Contact, etc.). Only with the Page "Galleries"  one finds that the text that appears above the Albums is determined by the text in the Album Set Copy, not the text in the Page Copy. For me this is not quite logical......or is it?

Agustin

#74 Re: Backlight Support » Galleries » 2016-05-26 23:40:42

Well....it seems that the text for the Galleries Page should be inserted in the Album Set Copy, not in the Copy of the Galleries Page......but I find this not quite clear in the design or the documentation of Backlight........but now all works fine!
thanks Rod!

Where are you changing the text? For the Galleries page, it needs to be changed in the template you're using.

I go to "Pages" where I created a "Galleries" Page (that uses a certain Page Template). Then I open "Design" and in the Design Page, I select "Page Copy" en put my text in the box of "Main Copy"......is this correct?
