Thanks for the compliments, Rod, I appreciate it.
Looking at your website there was this spontaneous reaction on my side: "This exactly how I want my pages to behave!"
So for the (near) future there's some work left:
- improving the resizing of my pages; I tried resizing my website in the browser on my iMac and to my surprise things changed, almost the way they do at your webpages, only not quite that perfect. A funny thing happens (though not on the way to the Colosseum): when looked at on iPhone the menu is left-margined, both in portrait and in landscape view. On iPad however, there's portrait-view holding the device portrait-wise (logical), with left-margined menu, but landscape-view when I turn the iPad a quarter of a circle, thus getting a nicely centered menu!!?? This gives me the feeling that I have been "almost there!" What do you think?
- another weird thing happens, also on desktops, when you click on the photo-icon (= entering 'galleries') and after that click on a gallery (at the moment only one, as I'm still in trial). The photo-icon changes a bit, as do all the others. I really didn't see that one coming! I checked my pages- and my galleries-template in LR, but I'm still without a clue!
So, like I said a while ago: you solve one thing, two others appear! Best thing to do is keep on smiling, you're right about that.
That's what I intend to do!

Well, Rod, as you can see on www.humarts.nl I've given up the struggle. This may seem ungrateful to you and Matthew, but, being sick at home, suffering from a severe sinusitis, I simply am too tired of searching and trying. I've decided to stop with the multi-level dropdown-galleries-menu, because the real shit hit the fan when I tried to implement that, totally destroying the looks on both iPad and iPhone. I do not know if there's a way of getting multi-level galleries using a grid, but for now it has been enough. What happen was, that I have been focusing on looks, while the goal is being busy with content: photo's or photo-shows! I know that creating a nicely looking set of webpages takes quite some time and energy, but for now I quit.
Once again, thank you (and Matthew) very, very much for your ongoing efforts to get me further on the road. It is obvious that I have learned a lot, "trailing-and-erroring" and not in the least because of the excellent support from the TTG-guys.
And ..., don't worry: I'll be back!!
First: I have NO collapsable menu's in my galleries installed! The reason: it shows a square of about 4 horizontal lines on the displays of both the iPad and the iPhone, thus reducing the space for other elements.
Strangely enough, it has worked for a while without collapsible menu's. On iPad it looked pretty good, with nice rounded buttons in (one!) line, on iPhone the same buttons, but in two lines. As I expect to reduce the menu-items in the future, things could only be better shown.
But..., like I said, for some reason the design is destroyed.
After your reply I have been experimenting with the Viewport-Sizer, reading as much documentation as I can. Following the instructions, the smallest size I am to achieve is 898 pixels, on my 1920 pixel-wide screen on iMac. Maybe I'm doing something incorrectly, so I will give it a few more efforts.
Like this: http://www.humarts.nl/galleries.php ?
Yes, I always save my templates, but I have forgotten to check the looks on iPad and Iphone.
So, you already know what has happened: I saved a template with some mistakes in it.
Now it is quite a problem to find out how to restore it.
Strangely enough I had succeeded in creating something good, especially on iPad, even with the us of 'padding!'
It's hard to tell quickly where the wrong parts reside.
Well, anyway, now I've been trying to put things back like it was, no result. In a browser on a computer it looks nice, I like the adding of the linear gradient in some parts of the screen. But, alas, on iPhone and iPad it looks like shit (excusez le mot) and I cannot get it back right.
So there's one of my experiences in doing this kind of things: you solve one problem, you encounter one or more others. Very time-consuming, that's a fact.
I mean in formatting the navigation container / items.
OK, that's a clear answer!
Did I understand correctly, reading the threads, that you do not advise to use "none" along with "left-margin" and "padding?"
Why is it not possible to center the navigation items in the navigation container, once you've chosen for "Muliti-level menu's?"
Is it
- "still not possible, yet to come in the (nearby?) future?"
or
- or simply not possible, for reasons far beyond my understanding?
You're right, Rod, in Chrome and IE there seems to be no problem. So the "looks" of the pages are almost ready. I have chosen for a rather sober environment, that's what I like on photo-sites. On the other hand, I do not have many choices: my skills are not that high to make really flashy sites. Talking on sober: I even doubt if I will keep the the blurred page-background.
Thanks again for the useful advice!
Hello Daniel, Rod and Matthew!
The favicon-problem is solved. All I had to do is "Refresh Safari!"
I got this solution from someone in the Apple-community.
Anyway, I am very grateful for the time and effort you guys spent on helping a guy like me.
I'll probably need more help in time to come .....
Huub
Forget the last reply! I don't know what I did right, but now the Polaroid-icon shows up everywhere!
I get the feeling this might be a specific iMac and/or Safari-problem.
In that case I'm lost ...
Another thing occurs. When I click on the "Galleries"-tab and after that on one of my galleries, the Polaroid-icon disappears, being replaced by a tiny blue kind of world-globe.
Does that ring a bell to some of you?
OK, thanks Daniel and Matthew! Seems everybody can see the favicon, except me!
Strange, but also funny!
@ Matthew: typing Shift-CMD-R shows no reaction and change!?
@ Matthew: On my iMac the hard refresh is <CMD>-<R>, which I tried, without the desired result. Thanks anyway for your effort.
@Rod: I moved the favicon to the root www.humarts.nl, then I changed the address in http://www.humarts.nl/favicon.png. Did not work. I tried /favicon.png, also without any result.
I noticed something funny furthermore: when I use the tab "Galleries" and then click on one of my galleries, the Polaroid-favicon disappears and is replaced by a tiny icon, kind of a small world-globe. Maybe this is of any use for the both of you?
I entered this location in the Favicon Address of the Page Setup section: http://www.humarts.nl/resources/images/favicon.png.
On the server, that's where the file favicon.png is placed.
Over the last week I've been trying to integrate my TTG Pages and Galleries design. Thanks to excellent documentation and fine help coming from this forum, I move forward step-by-step.
PHP, CSS, it's all a bit confusing sometimes, but adequate help keeps me on the road!
Which means I encounter new problems, like this one:
I've read how to format and where to put my own favicon. Yet all I see, keep seeing, is the default Polaroid-favicon. I am sure I have read the manual well and put in things properly. But for some reason the default favicon keeps appearing from some (hidden?) place.
What am I doing wrong?
Hi Rod,
Well, what do you know: the problem seemed to be that I do not know/realize the difference between a server path and a URL.
I changed my input within Galleries in "/public/sites/www.humarts.nl/phplugins" and the trick was done! From now on all my exported galleries will no longer give me this problem.
Thank you very, very much for your help, I really appreciate it!
Best regards,
Huub Martens.
@ Rod: I did that in the Galleries-module in LR: checked "Enable PHPlugins" and directing to http://www.humarts.nl/phplugins
Seems correct to me. Or ...?
@ Daniel: Do you mean I have to delete the PHPlugin-fodloders in my Galleries-folders (3, at the time)?
Where do I put the line <link rel="stylesheet" href="/phplugins/css/custom.css" />
Thanks guys, for your help, gives me a bit more energy not to give up!
Hi Daniel,
Thanks for the quick answer!
I deleted two lines in the phplugins-file to activate custom.css. I wonder how you can see this,by just looking at my site, but that's probably because I'm too new at this.
Huub
Guys,
Being new on TTG CE3 I started with much enthusiasm to make a site with Pages and Galleries. I have come pretty far, for a 61 years old amateur, thanks to excellent documentation on your side!
However, I do not succeed in creating the same page background in Pages and Galleries. I did all I could understand in custom.css, enabling this, adapt phplugins.php, mark "Get shared resources", without the wanted result.
What happens is: I can see my background image when I enter my site, but when I switch over to the Galleries-tab, and then enter a Gallery, the background changes in the red color I put in it in, creating my Gallery-template (red, just to recognize where it came from).
I hope I made clear enough what I'm dealing with. Feel free to visit www.humarts.nl to see what I mean.
Any suggestions?
Huub Martens,
Helmond, Holland.
