#26 Re: Backlight Support » Solved: Publisher can't publish new album - Disk Error » 2018-06-07 05:08:36

Hi Ben,
Did You get the file? The hoster says, there's no problem with disk space and I can upload files into the directory where database file is located. I also tried to remove an eventual lock by copying the database file to another location, deleting the original and copying back the copy.

I also don't unterstand, why publisher has to touch an entry concerning Wordpress Theme while I publish a gallery with a pangolin template.

Michael

Yes. The error said the same as the line from the log, just more nicely formatted.
Authentication between LR and publisher is fine btw.

After quite some time I just wanted to publish a new album.

This is what I find in the log:

[04-Jun-2018 01:09:12] TRACE: returning: {"status":"error","message":"Update query failed with error: SQLSTATE[HY000]: General error: 10 disk I\/O error\nsql:\n'UPDATE `engine_view` SET\n`name`=\\'loop.php\\',\n`type`=\\'dynamic\\',\n`path`=\\'\\',\n`rename`=\\'\\',\n`passthrough`=\\'no\\',\n`modified`=\\'2018-06-04 01:09:12\\'\nWHERE `engine_id`=\\'99\\' AND `view_id`=\\'view.loop\\''\nparams:\narray (\n) in PdoExtended.php on line 552"}

I can ftp to the server and also login to backlight admin

Any ideas?

Help apreciated.

Best wishes
Michael

#30 Re: Backlight Support » Need Lightroom Subscription Publishing Alternative » 2017-10-24 10:05:09

Hi Rod,

yes, I got that. But subscription to Classic includes cloudspace if I want it or not. So Adobe want me to pay for something, I don't want and can't make use of. That annoys me. Cost of subscription in two years is higher than what I payed for my license plus the updates I bought from 4 to 5 and from 5 to 6. During the last few years. All times two for two licenses. Makes a steep increase in pricing.

#31 Re: Backlight Support » Need Lightroom Subscription Publishing Alternative » 2017-10-24 08:55:28

While I still like the workflow LR enables me to, I am not inclined to accept any subscription model. In the place where I live, I don't have the bandwidth to up- and download high resolution DNGs to whatever kind of cloud anyway. With less than 1 MBit/s cloud is not the way to go. Also as I strictly believe that in reality there is no such thing as a cloud, but only other people's/companies' computers, I will not give my assets out of my own hands but keep physical copies and backups where I can control them.

What I would like to have is a LR-independent client, that can
1. connect to my server side Backlight backend and sync back all it finds there to a local directory structure and
2. notice when in the local structure a new album is created and sync this addition up to the server.

Both together would also allow for a convenient backup of published galleries.

I care less if there will be a shiny user interface or if I will have to edit template text files with the properties of new albums and album sets.
I am glad, that You have announced to come up with something useful to support those of us who will have to break the bonds to LR at some point in time.
Everything You have published with in the past has turned out to be a pleasure to use and I am confident that this will be true in the future.

#32 Re: Backlight Support » Advantage - more than one publisher instance » 2017-10-12 23:06:59

Hi Rainer,

if both installations are meant to exist parallel, I would strongly advise to use two instances of the lr-publisher. It is highly probable that You will not manage to keep everything 100% in sync.

Herzliche Grüße

#33 Re: Backlight Support » What file type should be addes to Album JPG or RAW ? » 2017-10-10 19:32:00

During the process of publishing the publisher plugin in LR creates jpgs and uploads those instead of whatever raw filetype you have.
You just create a new album with the publishing service and pull the thumbnails into that album.
Take a look at the settings of Your plugin. There are some options to set there (e.g. watermark in the exportes jpg)
Other settings are specific for the template used for the particular album (e.g. image size). Those are set in Backlight.

#34 Re: Backlight Support » Feature proposal - Individual Background image » 2017-07-28 07:04:37

I finally found the time to try this out and can confirm that it works.
I created a hidden gallery for backgrounds and started a soon to grow section in my custom.css. I also finally noticed that the FileZilla ftp-client provides a bookmarks function for quick access.

For me the additional steps are completely OK.
Thank You for the hints. I slowly start to understand how powerful the concept behind custom.css really is.

#35 Re: Backlight Support » Feature proposal - Individual Background image » 2017-07-24 05:25:23

Hi Daniel,

no, I had not even thought in that direction yet. I'm not to good at css. So I don't get such an idea without initial help.

To understand You right, I would have to do the following:
1) publish the album, either set a slug or find out the slug created by publisher

2) upload a crafted background to backlight/custom/images/background-xxx.jpg and replace "xxx" with the album slug (or bring up another naming convention)

3) add a section .slug-xxx main{ } to my custom.css and replace the "xxx" with the album slug and adjust the url() to the uploaded image.

If the album gets unpublished, the entry in my custom.css wouldn't do harm.

That sounds convincing.

I like the way Backlight integrates background images.
Backgrounds as well as color schemes are a powerful and aesthetically pleasing tool to separate various regions of a site.
Still, to have different background images, individual templates must be provided. Of course cloning has made it easier, but with a growing number of template clones, later changes in layout or other settings require replicating the change over all relevant clones.

To allow for individual backgrounds corresponding closely with an album's content it would be nice to have an option to pick the background for a particular album (perhaps even album set) from the album itsself in the LR-publisher plugin. If an album specific background image is selected in the LR-publisher plugin, this could override the Background set in the template.
A checkbox "list in album index" could control whether the background image shall serve only as background or also be displayed as regular contentin  thumbnail grid and large image.

With the option unchecked, a photo can be thrown into the album to serve as a dedicated background. As well as not every good photo is a suitable background (to much details, interesting regions covered by spinal column etc.) not every good background is a good photo to view solo.

A fine evening for all
Michael

#37 Re: Backlight Support » Search Handoff Localization » 2017-07-24 01:53:16

The "echo " was missing. I copied "echo _x" from the 'Search Blog' instance from further up in the file.

To confirm this precisely I now tried again, changed to "_e", exported the theme, cleared the cache and revisited the loco translate WP plugin. In the plugin I selected the Pangolin-Template to edit the .pot. When I made it sync with the source files, one unused string got removed from the template. After another change back to "_x", 'Search Albums' was found and added to the .pot again as a new string.

#38 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin 121 menu weird behaviour » 2017-07-24 01:27:47

I put that into my custom.css and it works out fine.

#39 Re: Backlight Support » Search Handoff Localization » 2017-07-23 23:55:38

I had to make another change to make 'Search Albums' appear in the language template. It is now:

<button type="submit" class="fa_pseudo"><span><thp> echo _x( '<?php echo __c('TEXT_SEARCH_ALBUMS_BUTTON', 'Search Albums') ?>', 'submit button', '<?php echo $template->getIdentifier(); ?>' ); </thp></span></button>

To make this clear for other users, the change was made in the file backlight/modules/pangolin-wordpress/dynamic/view/searchform.php which is the pattern, backlight uses when the theme is exported to Wordpress.

Thank You
Michael

#40 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin Wordpress - Layout gets broken by larger photos » 2017-07-23 23:19:44

Fine. That works. Thank You.
Do You recommend changing it in a child theme, or will the change be permanent in upcoming versions?

Best wishes
Michael

PS
You always respond so quickly even on sundays. I often post here on weekends because of my day job and because all the photo and web things are recreational for me. I wouldn't mind to wait until next week.

#41 Re: Backlight Support » Search Handoff Localization » 2017-07-23 15:25:10

I tried again. It can stay "echo _x".

But I changed the plain words "Search Albums" to "<?php  echo __( 'Alben durchsuchen', 'pangolin-template' ); ?> " and translated again. The whole thing now reads as below.

Now I get the translated handoff string below the search input.

But when I reexport the theme from Backlight it will be overwritten.

<form role="search" method="get" class="search-form" action="<?php  echo esc_url( home_url( '/' ) ); ?>">
	<p>
	<label><span class="screen-reader-text"><?php  echo _x( 'Search for:', 'label', 'pangolin-template' ); ?></span></label>
	<input type="text" class="search-field" placeholder="<?php  echo esc_attr_x( 'Enter search, hit Return...', 'placeholder', 'pangolin-template' ); ?>" value="<?php  echo get_search_query(); ?>" name="s" />
	</p>
	<button type="submit" class="fa_pseudo"><span><?php  echo _x( 'Search Blog', 'submit button', 'pangolin-template' ); ?></span></button>
</form>

<form role="search" action="/backlight/search" method="GET" class="search-handoff">
	<input type="hidden" id="q" name="q" value="" />
	<button type="submit" class="fa_pseudo"><span><?php  echo __( 'Search Albums', 'pangolin-template' ); ?></span></button>
</form>

#44 Re: Backlight Support » Search Handoff Localization » 2017-07-23 11:37:44

Hi Rod,
thank you for the hint. That helps for the album search. I translated the theme before the 1.2.2 update.

Edit: I tried to gather the intl-strings once more but that didn't work. “Search blog" didn't appear in the.pot file.

For blog search I found the string <?php  echo _x( 'Search Blog', 'submit button', 'pangolin-template' ); ?> in search form.php.
The string "Search Blog“ does not appear in the language file.
Might it help to change the “_x(" to "__(" and have the .pot rebuilt?

Cheers
Michael

#45 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin 121 menu weird behaviour » 2017-07-23 10:02:39

Oops. I was to quick to say, I like it the way it is.
When the page is viewed on a phone or in a narrow window on the desktop, the social media icons in the top pallet are covered by the spinal column an are not reachable anymore.

When I insert two fotos into a blog post, align them left or right and there is not enough text to flow alongside both fotos at least down to the lower edge of the lower image, the fotos break the boundaries of the "article.type-post"-rectangle and reach doen into the comments-area.

As a workaround I could enter some empty lines with &nbsp; somewhere in the text to pad the text to a sufficient length.
This renders OK in desktop browsers, also when the window is narrow.
But on the phone the empty lines stretch a large empty space below the last image.

The new cross search is a very fine feature.

Is it localization ready yet?

If yes, what is to be done?

Have a nice weekend

Maybe I found another z-index related thing which I like the way it is, but I'm not sure if it is intended like this.

I have a secondary masthead in a template. The menu button floats above the content of my main column, while the social media icons from the top pallet stay behind it.

z-index-sample.jpg

edit: for some reason inserting my image doesn't seem to work with https.
It is here: https://www.michilge.de/extfiles/z-index-sample.jpg

Again: I like it the way it is. The menu button is important and should stay on top, while the social media icons may well fall into the background.

I republished again, but this time with full image upload. --> Works!

edit: I also installed the update to 1.2.2 in the mean time.
