I just sent a test message without seeing any error message.
Try clearing browser cache or using a different browser
Thanks Rod, it works now, it was clearly a browser issue
Hi guys,
Happy New Year
I noticed an error on my contact page that says, ERROR for site owner: Invalid site key.
After a bit of digging I discovered I had a V3 key. I created a new V2 key and copied the two keys into the Backlight settings, but I still get the error.
Any ideas?
Thanks for explaining Daniel. I think the issue is that I had two versions of the blog, a new one (non working) on peterblandford.com/blog and the original one on blog.peterblandford.com. I have now removed the non working one having copied the theme to the new one.
To be honest, I'm happy now. I know that if I need to update the theme I have to do it via a dummy blog and then copy it over. Not as slick as if the blog was in the right place but it'll do for now while I get on with other things on the to do list!
I do appreciate yours and Rod's help.
I'm looking at Krystal's documentation on how subdomains are handled: https://help.krystal.co.uk/domains/unde … subdomains
Reading this, you should be able to properly link the WP install in Backlight: url = /subdomainroot
I played a bit with your site and I think that just using url = /blog should do the trick.
Thank Daniel, I have read this three times and also looked at the link but I'm sorry I don't understand
In Krystal I have various folders in my root drive and each one is a site, currently the subdomain blog.peterblandford.com is a separate folder next to peterblandford.com.
Where can I use "url = /blog?"
Got it all working, in case anybody else has this issue some of the links on the blog menu did not work as it was not on the same site (home, gallery etc). I fixed this by changing the menu to contain links to the full url of home, gallery etc.
just tested it. Works great.
I already had the theme in the new directory so I downloaded it and put it in the new one and it works fine. I just need to remember to repeat the process if and when I make changes.
Thanks guys
A workaround would be to create the wp-content/themes directory where Backlight is expecting it, and then after exporting the theme from Backlight, manually copying the saved files into the equivalent location of your blog
Actually thinking this may be easier if it works?
there are a number of WordPress plugins that will help with this. Migrate DB is one that comes to mind, but there are a lot.
search on something like "wordpress site migration"
Thanks Rod
With whom are you hosting?
ShawWellPete wrote:My hosting company say it should be pretty easy to move the site within my domain, so I may go for that option
Just my 2 cents:
Note that you would need to update all url references in the WP mysql database after moving it, apart of some config file changes. You should then add some 301 redirects from your subdomain to you main domain as well so that all your existing links to your blog continue to work.
You are not the first one doing this, so Google finds many answers to the steps needed.
You could be right as I am having some issues (see above)
I host with Krystal and I moved to them from powweb which was a fairly tricky, but they suggested that because the database was going from one location at Krystal to another it would be fine.
Did you try clearing browser cache?
How about template cache?
can you post a link?
That's done it, not sure which cache it was, but thank you!
So I decided an easier option was to move my blog within my host so that it sat as a subdirectory of the main Backlight site. With Krystal's help I followed the following steps
1. logged into the old blog location and changed the url to be the new location within wordpress
2. downloaded the whole blog directory with FTP
3. Uploaded it all to the new location, overwriting the blank wordpress install that Backlight created
4. Logged into the blog in the new location and set the theme to be the Backlight one
It all looks pretty good, apart from the fact that when I click on a blog post, rather than displaying it, I get the slideshow from the home page, even though the URL on the browser looks correct
Any ideas?
Look at the Lightroom Publisher Settings. Make sure that “Push metadata without updating existing photos” or “Publish thumbnails...” are not checked
I thought we had it Rod, push data without updating was ticked and the export took much longer after I unticked it and marked them to republish but the images are still 960 pixels wide
My hosting company say it should be pretty easy to move the site within my domain, so I may go for that option
after making changes like that to the template, you need to republish the images.
If you have more questions, could you post them under their own topic? That makes it easier for others to find answers to similar questions.
Will do Rod, Thank you
I've started a new thread on this to keep things tidy
I noticed that the images on the slideshow on the front page are only 960 pixels wide, which makes them very small on my retina laptop.
I have changed the settings on the gallery template for the image renditions to be 2048x2048 as an extreme test, and it makes no difference. Is there another setting I need to change?
Rod suggested republishing from Lightroom, I marked all the photos to republished and published again and it did not work. It also seemed to republish very quickly, so I do not think new versions of the photos were uploaded.
Any other ideas?
I am getting somewhere with the blog, in the meantime, I noticed that the images on the slideshow on the front page are only 960 pixels wide, which makes them very small on my retina laptop.

Thanks Rod, I will give that a go
Yes, I think so , here are the steps I followed,
In BL2 templates - create new theme template - applied a page template and save
from View Template - I click on Export Theme to Wordpress and I get this error
The theme could not be exported.
The directory ../wp-content/themes does not exist. Please check your setting for Wordpress URL under Backlight Settings.
what is the url of your blog?
what is the WordPress url you've entered in the Backlight Settings > WordPress
I think I may be misunderstanding how Backlight works with WordPress, I thought I could export the theme from Backlight and apply it by logging into my WordPress page which is currently up and running (http://www.blog.peterblandford.com/) and activating the new theme.
what is the WordPress url you've entered in the Backlight Settings > WordPress
http://www.blog.peterblandford.com/
Export on Save
no
When I try to export the theme I get the error
The theme could not be exported.
The directory ../wp-content/themes does not exist. Please check your setting for Wordpress URL under Backlight Settings.
Have you installed WordPress into its own folder?
In Backlight Settings have you filled out the WordPress section?
http://backlight.theturninggate.net/doc … -on_basics
Sorry Rod I don't know what you mean by installing Wordpress into its own folder, I installed backlight and the WP-Theme is in the modules but I didn't install it individually
I did fill out the setting is the wordpress section
Having set up the main site on peterblandford.com , I am trying to do the WordPress blog next, when I create a Theme and save it I get the error "Unable to save settings. Error 418."
any ideas?
yes. Just hide it. Look under the Features tab of the album
Thanks Rod, really appreciate your help.
Thanks again Rod!
One final question, is there a way of making the home page gallery not visible in the galleries section?
Thanks Rod, getting there and then I can work on the wordpress theme. One odd problem, there a couple of non working galleries on the galleries page (http://www.peterblandford.com/galleries/) at the bottom Danny's 50th and Peter's 2015 photos, there is no directory that corresponds to them when I look by FTP, any idea how they got there and how to get rid of them?
