To Ben, Rod and Matt - thanks for superlative support here and yes I can only glimpse at the various constraints you are under and the fine lines etc. I look forward to trying the tweaks tonight and auto-refresh etc. I'm getting to know the new camera now, and understand it cant be all things to all users, maybe we should re-entitle WYSIWYG as WTAGAIG (Well, that's as good as it gets ;-) TTFN Ed
Hi
I'm having a general problem about my Lightroom-controlled image sort orders not being reflected in the web gallery.
Example order in Lightroom is here: NOTE the highlighted pictures:
Frame number 24 and 51 are in the right order in Lightroom:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … htroom.png
But when published they are out of order:
http://ahsn.sintero.org/galleries/hopestreet/
I have selected sort order controlled by Lightroom
I have tried toggling all of the metadata push, gallery republish, refresh browser, restart, delete history + cache and restart tricks, no joy.
Its puzzling for my album viewers who lose the narrative in the slide captions, so I have to sort properly.

Some related user feedback (not criticism) after using Backlight for a few months - There may be a case of Backlight offering too many options on push/pull, and confusingly splitting controls over several input GUIs. For future versions tweaking certainly needs to be simplified as the majority use case would want it organised it out of a single UI (e.g. Lightroom or web but not both) as this would support a simple "tweak and publish to web" workflow.
I find that the split editing of captions and various cross-impacting clients/templates at TTG plug in level, at album level and page level to be unintuitive and thus intrusive to an efficient workflow. The templates and their naming are quite arcane and I don't dare to upgrade to a WordPress option for fear of losing formatting control from whats working.
There is terminology e.g. Trays, replace, on top of, below that is ambiguous as to what the setting affects. As it is at the moment (and since Backlight 1.0) there are MASSES of options which an ordinary user cannot see what the immediate effect is on the design - so its not WYSIWYG. To improve it for users, it would be good to either have a sandboxed template creator to WYSIWYG tweak a design and export a template OR [better] limit the options so its not so mind-boggling and do it all in Lightroom or a browser so you can get a grip of the interdependencies and see pre-publish how the set parameters will influence the output (so you can do proper tweaking).
Thx Daniel, you have been a star!

Thx Daniel for that tip - it worked - so metadata sorted. Only other problem left is small one of a jpg I cant get rid of - another explanatory video is here ;-)

Hi Rod
I have made a movie to show the problem - the template is not working...

Sorry the question re
What do you have set for your album template > Image Settings > Photos Caption?
its blank - see this:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … ankbox.png
Ed
Yes the big pic captions - have understood the thumbnail ones
So, focusing on the text at the beginning of this screenshot:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … le-pic.png
i.e. on this example "Original stored under 1971-08-01-P004-06:"
This obviously comes from some setting and possibly involves a common string with the {filename} tag
I want to find that setting and cut it so I can PASTE it to the END of the caption of the big pictures.
Its just that I want to start with the caption proper and have the hard copy filing reference at the end of the caption. Then I'm done.
Thx
Ed
Hi Rod
still not solved
found out that toggle of this metadata setting https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … tadata.png works for one of the album thumbnail titles BUT
***still cannot work out (Ive been through all my settings, all templates in LR and in Backlight) how to remove the prefix "Original stored under {Filename}" - ideally I want to put that at the END of the caption not the beginning - but can't see how to.
AFAIK I'm just using the templates supplied and recommended by Backlight setup method. They are similarly/confusingly named, so cant really see what determines what.
Any tips on how to solve the ***problem would be enough at present.

Hi
Ive got a simple Backlight site up for old 1970s slides,
first problem is my gallery page - you can see the URL on the photo: http://ahsn.sintero.org/galleries/theme-litherland/
snapshot here also:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … titles.png
Two things I can't fix -
(1) I'm getting a persistent photo - the one entitled "001-Litherland" in my gallery but this has been manually removed from Lightroom (correctly) and the cache has been cleared - but it just wont go! I can confirm the photo dos not exist now anywhere in lightroom so puzzled.
(2) Secondly Ive forgotten how to toggle the thumbnail Filename titles on this page. Some galleries I want them some not - forgotten how to turn on/off
NEXT
when I drill down to one picture - for example...
http://ahsn.sintero.org/galleries/theme … id=1&pid=2
screenshot:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … le-pic.png
You will see the string " Original stored under 1971-08-01-P004-06: "
I want to remove these tags that are auto-generated - so I went looking in the album templates and found the "Original stored under {Filename}" characters and deleted... I then refreshed, republished, cleared cache, tried different browser.. nothing would accept the change, so the names are still there at the beginning of the caption.
Actually I would still like to say Original stored under {Filename} but at the END of the caption if this was feasible. Otherwise I cannot see where I can make this change actually happen on the live site.
Thanks
Ed
Hi
I did a site rebuild from scratch and was aware I changed the setting about expanding thumbnails to fill frame - I didn't like result so changed it back. It is still "off". However since I did that more and more of my thumbnails are randomly going to the fill frame version and so seems out of control...
Are there any tips for bringing it back to the ordinary view and keeping it there?
To illustrate below is a snapshot of the problem:
Pics 1 and 2 in this have gone full frame whereas the rest are OK.
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … olarge.png
When I looked again 30 min later another one had done it...
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … lsobad.png
So its inconsistent and unpredictable...

Thanks Rod, will try
for other users I found instructions in the changelog

Thanks Rod, I'm logged in as Admin.
Can I just ask could any content be lost on upgrading to v1.0.1? Just in case.

Thanks Rod
I did access Publisher > Top Level Galleries
but did not see any Albums link, nor any list of Albums
Here is a non-public mini-movie to show what i did see:

Must be missing something?
Ed
Great- am indebted to you Rod for links. Thanks.
Hi
In Lightroom I did a full re-publish of an album with a changed name. For some reason it re-published a duplicate album (i.e. same name) and did not delete the legacy album. I tried changing the name of the album again but it kept the dupes.
An illustration of the current state is here:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … umsNow.png
The only thing that may be inhibiting the republish is the password set up from within Lightroom on the original versions. While I will remember to unlock before a republish next time, I'm stuck with these old locked albums on my page and don't know how to manually remove or stop displaying them.
The one I want to show is called "Theme-Litherland" and the old ones I don't want are both called "Litherland"...
Many thanks for tips
Ed
Many thanks Rod for advice - maybe I should invest in an interactive css editor? - I would only need it for element tweaking so does not need to be overblown. Is there any people would recommend for editing a backlight site on Mac OS X - and sorry for really novice question: but which files should I edit and/or leave well alone - local or on the site live via Transmit?
Hi
I've tweaked just about every setting in the templates and seen expected effects but can't find / or have missed the control for text size for filenames *under* thumbnails.
To illustrate: my standard filename format of YYYY-MM-DD-PICSET-NNN-FRAME-NN.jpg is being truncated as in this sample album of old slides from 1971:
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/112 … S/1971.png
All I need to do is make this text smaller so the standard name fits each time (or un bold it as that might help)
Many thanks for tips.
Ed
Hi
My site is being built as an family archive sharing site and ideally I'd like to offer my relatives the option of downloading pictures at their maximum file size, i.e. as I captured them through scanning.
Is this possible through a setting?
I realise that the display images in default settings are low res for the purposes of fast display but i wondered if there was a workaround, either now or in the future.
Since I store all my originals in DropBox too, I could generate URLs as one way and embed it in the caption but its more elegant to be able to download directly.
Many thanks
Ed
