We have a functioning installment of Backlight 1 with the Client Response add on as in integral part of our business.
We are planning to upgrade to Backlight 2. But do we need to purchase a new license til the client response add on too?
Oh, by the stroke of a miracle, we found it!
Hello;
We need to urgently set up a new computer for publishing to our Client Selection Galleries in Backlight. We can´t remember the API Key so I was wondering if it´s to be found somewhere if we log in to our Backlight Installation?
Matthew, is it too early to give the slightest clues as to what options for other platforms to publish from that will be in Backlight 2?
Best regards, Mikkel
Look forward to Backlight 2. We have not set a release window as yet, but it shouldn't be too long a wait. Keep an eye on our blog and newsletters for announcements to come.
We use Backlight in conjunction with the Client Feedback plugin publishing from Lightroom. Is there any other way of publishing to Backlight than Lightroom? For instance Adobe Bridge?
Kind regards, mikkel
Great, thanks - I think I´ve got it now then, thanks to both of you.
Just to be 100% sure:
We all use Backlight to proof towards different customers. So in this case, we each will be publishing multiple collections to our own instance of backlight every week. That will work right?
Another thing I was wondering: would it be possible for each of our studios to publish to the same gallery folder from different LR-catalogs? I think you mentioned earlier that this was not possible?
Best regards, and thanks again!!!
Mikkel
Using FTP, create the necessary folders in the root of your site. They should be at the same server level as the backlight/ folder, as Matt has illustrated above. For the folder names, use only letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores.
Each Studio then needs to set up Publisher (in Lightroom) to use its folder as the the Top-level gallery. Then each studio needs to create an album. You don't need to include images at this point.
http://backlight.theturninggate.net/doc … irst_albumBacklight will create the necessary files in the folder, just like when you initially published to the galleries folder.
Someone will then need to log in to Backlight and go to Publisher > Top-level galleries. You should see the new top-level galleries for each studio that has published to their folder.
Click on one of the new top-level galleries and edit its properties to assign an album set template and add any studio specific copy to the page.
Thanks Matthew and Rod for the reply.
Sounds really great that this is possible. Yes, we are using different catalogs, we each have our own LR-catalog. The fact that we can´t change each others material through lightroom is only good news.
I´m always totally confused by the fundamental structure of this. Is there any way one of you could explain how to achieve this, in baby steps, just explain like I was a child, if you wouldn´t mind?
Best regards, Mikkel
To Rod's point, I would advise publishing to separate target folders. By default, you'd normally publish to the 'galleries' folder, setup like this:
/backlight
/galleriesWith content flowing in from different locations or catalogs, I'd recommend each catalog have it's own folder:
/backlight
/studio1
/studio2
/studio3... and so on. This would allow you to run from a single site, without interfering with each other's uploads, if such an organization structure would work for you.
Regarding licensing, we typically allow you to run Backlight on any website(s) owned by you, regardless of the number of computers you're connecting from. So there shouldn't be any licensing conflict with your multiple locations uploading to the same website.
We are a photo studio with 4 different locations spread all over the country. We are looking to use Backlight and the client selection function. We are using it today in one location with no problems. We use Lightroom to publish the galleries for client selection.
Are we getting into trouble with four different instances of Lightroom publishing to the same Backlight instance? Or is that perfectly normal?
Kind regards, Mikkel
Ups, found it!
Suddenly I cannot find out where to reopen a gallery for feedback after feedback already has been given on an album?
Ok, I will do that....
Thanks so much Rod!!!!!
Well, that seems to have sorted itself after logging in and out once....
So, we're back to normal! Thanks Rod!!!!
Thank you Rod!
That seems to have sorted out almost all problems.
But, for some reason - we now lost the design on the login page?
What should I do to retrieve those?
Greatly appreciated your support!!!
It looks like you may have inadvertently deleted needed older Okapi based modules like standard-page, standard-album, and standard-album-set. (Only needed if you haven’t created new Pangolin-based templates)
If so, you’ll need to replace them.
See the end of this document to get the last version of those Okapi modules
http://backlight.theturninggate.net/doc … _backlight
Well, now I have managed to make a little bit of progress - even though the thing still doesn't work. I re-uploaded the backlight/modules/module-client-response folder but now I get this message?
So, here I go again:
I updated to the last version of Backlight before urgently needing it for a customer delivery. I carefully followed the instructions to not upload backlight/custom and backlight/data but uploaded the rest.
And, as usual - something doesn't work.
I suspect this has something to do with the fact that I wasn't able to visit “Client Response” to trigger update after login. The rest was ok, but this I couldn't find?
And - when I now go to our Client Feedback Link - nothing is there?

I need some help. And, its kind of urgent.
I have just sent you the login to [email address redacted to prevent bot harvesting].
Please be sure to write if there is any information you need furthermore. And if there is anything I can do to assist you!
Best regards, Mikkel
Hi Mikkel, the problem is likely that your host has broken something. Perhaps a PHP upgrade or configuration change that is now preventing Backlight from working. This is probably something you'll need to ask their technical support. I'm happy to try and see what's broken, if you can provide me with FTP access.
That would REALLY be very much appreciated Ben!
How do I best provide you with the FTP-credentials?

Hi,
We used Backlight in a project a month or so ago, with the client selection function as an important feature.
Today, I suddenly realise that its gone.

We haven't updated for a while. Maybe that's part of the problem?
Would really appreciate some help here.

Ok! Thanks Rod!
But if you mean you want to change the destination of the feedback, then that is controlled in Backlight > Settings > Personalisation > Site Email. All emails sent from your site to you (Client Response, Cart orders, contact forms) are sent to that one email address. There is no provision for sending to a different email address on a per album basis.
Solved! Well partly solved - because I can´t get the breadcrumb to not say "Your albums" - even though everything else is translated to swedish now!
Oh, I just realised that I need to right click on an image within the collection and assign the thumbnail there! Doesn't´t say so anywhere?
Doesn't´t actually explain HOW to choose which thumbnail to select!
I have translated a new localisation and called it "Swedish".
But how can I assign it?
Hello!
Since i have assigned an identity plate (PNG I uploaded) to the Backlight Standard Page Template and my Album Set Templates and Album Templates have Backlight Standard Page as their template the logo should show up on Album Set Pages and Albums right?
They don´t?
How?
In Lightroom you can select the cover image for an album in an album set. The default is random.
