#1 Re: Backlight Support » Does Backlight 2 work on a LiteSpeed server? » 2019-11-18 21:00:43

Thanks Ben,

I forgot that it needed Backlight installing on the server.

I have a few jobs that will need my attention over the next couple of weeks. Now is not the time to be learning new techniques.

I'll be back when life gets quieter. I'll also ask my web chaps about PHP and so on.

Maybe you could look at those two posts were people seemed to have problems with Litespeed and see if they spoke of a syntax that they thought caused problems.

Then could one of you good souls at The Turning Gate send me a couple of relatively complicated folders that use 'swipe' and I could upload them to the web server I rent space on. We could then see if they work.

I would very much like to return to your system as I find the JuiceBox system degrades my images - but I left you when you were tied to Lightroom and I am not a Lightroom user.

Can I flush up this one year old thread and ask the same question regarding Litespeed instead of Apache.

My web provider said ""Our shared servers are LiteSpeed unfortunately rather than Apache, and this CMS seems to reference just Apache. I'd recommend checking with them to see if Litespeed also works for this software."

I have done a search on this site. Two people have mentioned Litespeed since my post. Do you happen to know if they got Backlight 2 working?

Thanks Ben,

Fully understand about the time pressure.

#5 Re: Backlight Support » Does Backlight 2 work on a LiteSpeed server? » 2018-09-12 20:40:20

Thanks Ben.

As you sell Backlight 2 on a 'no returns' basis - about which I fully understand - I will leave purchasing it for a while.

As Matthew knows I was a TTG user for a while but got fed up with the overhead created by Lightroom. I have muddled along with JuiceBox in the meantime. Learning Backlight from scratch will be a challenge I am tempted to postpone and maybe by then someone will have tried it on LiteSpeed.

Thanks again.

I'm interested in buying the new Backlight that is not reliant on Lightroom.

Your specification about FTP servers refers to Apache and I have enquired with my guys. They came back with the following:-

"Our shared servers are LiteSpeed unfortunately rather than Apache, and this CMS seems to reference just Apache. I'd recommend checking with them to see if Litespeed also works for this software."

Will I be OK or will the software not run?

Many thanks

#7 Re: General » Backlight - The future? » 2018-08-02 05:44:36

Brilliant news.

I used TTG for my web folders for quite a while and then moved to another software suite as I hated being reliant on Lightroom. I am using Juicebox which is fast and easy to configure - but it is limited in the variations of folder look so I will be happy to revert to TTG.

As with the previous poster it was the only reason to work with Lightroom. I found it slow and cumbersome.

The thought of being able to move back to TTG and not have to work withing Lightroom is great news. I will be an early convert to Backlight 2.

#9 CE4 Gallery » Can someone remind me where my overlaid copy was being stored? » 2018-03-23 19:12:25

I have recently moved to new PCs and most of my TTG Lightroom system works as before.

What I have lost is the text that overlaid the bottom left corner of my images as shown here:
http://www.tonygamble.uk/Step_Out_Reh_250218/index.html

What I getting now is:
http://www.tonygamble.uk/SO_Prod_Act1/

Where in the info on the right hand side of my Web tab, using CE4 Gallery do I re-activate that bit of blue text, please?

Many thanks folk.

I love it Rod. You say:-

"There's a very good chance that the navigation in your legacy galleries and autoindexes won't work as expected. And if you're not using phplugins to manage your CE4 navigation, then it's not easily changed (you'd have to change the navigation then export and upload your galleries and autoindexes again)"

I said to Daniel "My site consists of about 1,450 folders, each containing an average of 75 images.
Half of them were constructed with Gallery so half have two "Return to my index page" links. Using LR to recreate those folders is impossibly time consuming. I'm hoping that the new host has done it using search and replace. We are talking about a site that is just short of 30 gig!!"

That repair work is still not completed and my colleague has spent more hours/days on it than he'd like to admit. It is a slow process when you are working on a 30 gig portfolio offline and uploading time and again to test.

I am sure you are right Rod. Backlight is the solution - but not for a 77 year old Tony with over 100,000 images to reindex.

Thanks for all your help

Thanks Rod and Daniel,

I had not spotted your replies as my email notification seems not to work every time.

I'll read them and do some more research.

Thanks Rod,

Snag is that moving the work of the last twenty years on to Backlight would be rather time consuming.

They say they are uploading a revised version now but you could look at the old site which was http://www.tonygamble.org/hurllist/

All the gallery folders prior to around 30th June are the ones that got hacked into.

Gosh this forum is quiet. A good sign.

As Ben suggested my web site had been hacked into. The people hosting it at the time seem unconcerned and have no backup old enough to recover it. So I have decided to move.

The new host I am using is (a) far faster and (b) far less expensive. That's the good news.

The bad news is that I was on a Microsoft server and I am now on a Linux one.

As you wizards know Linux is case sensitive. So my main index called HurlList does not respond to calls for hurllist or Hurllist. We/I/they are going to have to conduct a huge search and replace to solve that one.

Next it seems that HurlList is not good enough. The URL must be to HurlList/Index.htm  That's no problem as we can correct that in the same search and replace.

I have read that it might be possible to set my area on the hosting web server to (a) ignore case and (b) not need the /Index.htm. But the support people don't seem to be offering this as a quicker fix. I am now with SmartHosting. Any suggestions friends?

Question two:-

Can someone explain why the 'Return to' URL that appears at the top of my browser page of thumbnails is then repeated in each single.html file? I don't see the Return to message when I open a large image. Why is the code needed in the .html that holds it?

Thanks in advance for any help that comes.

#15 Re: CE4 Gallery » My web site seems to have been corrupted » 2016-08-17 02:18:50

At the moment we are working on replacing all the index files and that seems to work on the few I have done by hand.

I now see that all the template.......php files are dated the 18th July so someone could have had another go at the site.

Would you advise me to copy clean copies of these as well?

Tony

#16 Re: CE4 Gallery » My web site seems to have been corrupted » 2016-08-13 16:37:08

Thanks Ben,

No Wordpress on my site - but it could be on someone else's on the server of course.

The hacking suggestion makes sense. All the indexes on every one of the 1,400 folders is dated 12/07/16 - but with slightly different timings. The ones created by BreezBrowser, before I came to TTG, contain no 'scripts' or java and have not been changed. All yours have had the middle removed and that presumably was where the hacker planned to add some new content.

It seems that my web host has no backup old enough to hold the undamaged indexes but I have been offered assistance by some nearby IT folk and we will attempt to reload them from my local source over extra fast fibre.

Thanks again.

#17 Re: CE4 Gallery » My web site seems to have been corrupted » 2016-08-13 02:14:34

"What's weird is that it seems to be all the body code (the stuff of the actual site) that seems to be missing. "

That's what amazed me. A normal 'copy' does not do that and there is no way I could do that in Filezilla.

It is almost as if they tried to recreate the web folder from a version of the web site.

What  'copy' software would rip out the middle of each index file like that?

Tony

#18 Re: CE4 Gallery » My web site seems to have been corrupted » 2016-08-13 00:27:24

Rod,

I don't even need to re-upload the offending folders. All I need to do is to re-upload the index.html and the mobile.html. The makes the folder usable again.

Snag is that about half the site is faulty. A site of 1,400 folders so that could be around 700 that need correcting. Imagine how long that would take using consumer software and broadband?

Since posting my problem I have spoken to some IT contacts and they say there is no way I could have corrupted all those index files with my Filezilla access. The web hosting site must have had a problem and created the corruption when they tried to recover from it.

Would you not agree?

The reason I asked the question here is in the hope that you or someone would know why a perfectly good index can get copied across with a chunk of information (after that bit of script) missing. If we knew the answer to that there is a chance that I could get the hosting company to do the operation again without the action that caused the problem.

My IT buddies think there is a way they can do the correction using some batch scripts. However I do now question whether that is worth the effort and that the time would be spent moving to a new web host that takes backups!

#19 Re: CE4 Gallery » My web site seems to have been corrupted » 2016-08-12 17:30:42

Another clue - I Hope.

The uploaded html file seems to go wrong and have lots missing after this sequence.

<!--[if (gte IE 6)&(lte IE 8)]>
    <script src="./lib/js/respond.min.js"></script>
    <![endif]-->
    <!--[if (lte IE 10)]>

    <![endif]-->

Does this help suggest what might have changed at my hosting site?

I have looked at the embroidery html on my PC and I can see that a lot of the middle is missing. Does this suggest what might have happened at the web host? I'll paste it below:-

#21 CE4 Gallery » My web site seems to have been corrupted » 2016-08-12 14:25:05

I know it is not the job of you folk to sort out problems with my web site host - but maybe you could help me help them.

It seems that a problem has arisen sometime after the 23rd May.

This and earlier Gallery created folders will not open.

http://www.tonygamble.org/Embroidery_stool/index.html

This, and more recent, Gallery created folder opens.

http://www.tonygamble.org/Concours_2016 … index.html

Oddly the problem only seems to affect Gallery created folders. I say this as the following folder, created before I became a Gallery user, uploaded in early 2013 will open.

http://www.tonygamble.org/Kandersteg2012/index.htm

I have looked inside all three index.html files by 'saving' them to my PC and looking at the source. I am assuming you can do likewise and maybe, unlike me, see why the concours one does not open in a browser. Or is the problem more deep seated in your opinion.

Any help you can supply will be much appreciated. Looking ahead the pointers suggest I should move to another host but maybe not!

#22 Re: CE4 Gallery » Gallery page hangs waiting for thumbnails » 2015-10-09 14:38:45

I sometimes get this with a new upload. No thumbs and the spinning wheel.

Usually, after an FTP upload, instantly looking at the folder with an online browser I get a few thumbs that are only half rendered and the bottom of the thumb is grey.

However, if I look at the folder about ten to fifteen minutes later all the thumbs are there.

I raised this subject some time ago on this forum but there seemed to be no explanation. I raised it with my ISP and they had no explanation either. I let the matter rest as. for me anyway, not trying the newly uploaded folder for about quarter of an hour was no big inconvenience.

I don't understand how the internet works and I put the problem down to the complexity of promulgating the newly uploaded files around the planet. However, I'll make the point that clearing out any caches is important if you are in a rush. It was even suggested somewhere that my router and broadband supplier are holding caches of my downloads - but this may be rubbish.

No great help, I am sorry, Dave. But it may be a pointer.

By way of explanation I only use Gallery and not publisher - so the links to my folders are coming from a simply HTML menu folder.

And the Queen said no.

As you said she would.

Topic closed. What a bore...

Thanks Rod,

I'll ask the Queen.

Can some kind soul remind me where I save 'Sort by File Number' as my Lightroom preference, please?

My LR seem to prefer another sort order and it is a real bore not to notice until my TTG web folder is created.

I know how to set the order. Surely I can save my choice as a preference somewhere!
