Thanks Rod.  I'll give it a try.

Thanks for the comprehensive info Rod.  The way I understand it is that I could build it both ways, with or without WP.  Hovever, it would be much easier to make the WP generated pages bilingual because of the qTranslate plugin.  Is it possible to use WP for everything and generate the galleries with Publisher ?

When there is text in a Gallery, other than metadata, it this text generated using WP or TTG ?

I have the CE4 Blog & Galleries Bundle.  I don't have CE4 Pages but I don't mind buying it.  I want to build a new Web site to replace an actual one that uses WordPress, Atahualpa Theme, WP Photo Album Plus and Qtranslate.

This is the actual site:  http://julesgobeil.com/photo/?lang=en.  It works OK with a few bugs but it is very slow.

The Web Site I want is basically like the old one but simpler - no user interaction like comments.  I want it simple and elegant.  It will contain:

  • Photo galleries

  • Dated posts describing photo walks with a photo gallery attached

  • Equipment and photo related posts, some with a gallery attached

  • Menu, one level only

  • Everything bilingual - French and English.  I am familiar with the WP plugin qTranslate-X.

  • It needs to be optimized for smartphones, tablets and PCs.  This is the main reason I choose TTG.

My programming knowledge is limited but I was able to build my actual WP site myself.  I understand HTML, PHP, CSS and other simple stuff. I can modify things if it is not too complicated.  I am retired and very patient... :-)

Going the WordPress route should allow me to use qTranslate for all WP stuff: pages, menus, etc.  What about the TTG stuff outside WordPress ?  Photo descriptions can probably be handled  with IPTC tags.  Anything I should know about this bilingual stuff ?

So - What route should I take ?  With or without WordPress ?

What documentation should I use to get started ?  There seem to be quite a few:  the video, the Install Guide and the Beginer's Guide to CE4 Publishing and WordPress.

Thanks for reading me

Thanks for your answer Rod.  Unfortunately, that link doesn't work because what I have is the INVOICE number, not the ORDER number.

I lost 1 month of gMail  :-( and that includes the order email for the CE4 Blog & Galleries Bundle.  Fortunately, I was able to recuperate the Invoice number since it was paid with PayPal.

I never finished the CE4 install due to lack of time but I want to give it another try.  I would like to download the latest version of the files.  How can I do that ?

Thanks for your help

#7 Re: CE4 Publisher » Directory galleries » 2015-07-28 07:36:14

OK - If I understand well, the Auto Index template exported as /galleries/ will be used as the top level galleries folder.  I find it somewhat confusing that the auto index becomes a gallery...  I guess I'll get used to the terminology.

I haven't included a link to my site because I haven't finished the installation.

Thanks for your help.

I'm installing the CE4 Blog & Galleries Bundle as per instructions found in A Beginner's Guide to the CE4 Blog & Galleries Bundle.

I'm at the stage Setup a Publisher Instance and I don't know where to put the /galleries/ folder.  Check Authentication works fine if I put it at the top level but the instructions say to do this if you have CE4 Pages which I don't have.

The other option is to use any auto index folder and I don't have a top level auto index folder.  The only auto index folder I have is here: .../ttg-be/templates/autoindex.

Where should I put the /galleries/ folder ?

Here is my structure

Thanks for helping me

3 simple questions:

1- Language support:  does the WP Theme support French language ?  Can it be made bilingual:  French and English ? I'm not looking for French documentation but I need a Theme that will support French accented characters and sorting.

2- What other modules are needed besides CE4 WP Theme and CE4 Gallery  to build a WP site that will show photo galleries and support a small blog ?

3- I have a large collection of photos galleries in LR ready for publishing.  The photo descriptions are in the Title and Caption IPTC fields.  Will I be able to use those descriptions ?

Thanks
Jules
