I'm using Wordpress for my blog and the Wordpress Add-on to generate my Wordpress theme. That all seems to work fine except for one thing. In Wordpress, I installed a printer plugin to allow viewers to print from my blog. The printer function appears when I'm working in Wordpress but not in the blog on my website. I've tried two different printer plugins and neither work. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks, Bill
Rod - Will do. Thank you. Bill
Matthew - I went back and reviewed your blog post on moving from Okapi to Pangolin. It generally made sense to me but I'm still confused when you say create new templates with Pangolin. Where and how do I make the decision to create Pangolin rather than Okapi templates? Otherwise, I think I know what I have to do. Bill
Matthew - I suspected that was what you were going to say. So, that begs my next question. I've been faithful about updating Backlight and have ver 1.2.3 rel 4 currently installed. Is there something else I have to do (convert templates etc) to be using Pangolin? If so what? I do notice I have any number of Pangolin directories installed under Backlight. Let me know and thanks for the quick reply. You and your other helper guys have always been very helpful and responsive. - Bill
The newest blog post on Backlight's search function inspired me to turn on the Quick Search function. It indicated all I needed to do was turn on the quick search option on my page template in the top pallet. Unfortunately, I can't for the life of me find any reference to top pallet anywhere. Can someone tell me where to go and where to look? I'm sure I'm overlooking it but I swear I looked everywhere and if it's there, I can't find it. Thanks.
Ben - you have a keen eye. You were right. It was my curly braces that was giving me grief. Problem solved. Thank you to you and Rod.
Rod - I took your suggestion, which I liked, but when I pasted in the photo URL and associated other code in the copy box, what I got on the page was this: img < src=”http://www.williphotos.com/img/0712_K_Reinhart_212.jpg” on the page. If I clicked on it, it brings up my photo. So, I'm closer but I'm still doing something wrong. Any ideas?
I'm having the same difficulty as coyotepixel of inserting an image in the copy section of a page. I'm confident it is something with the URL I'm using that is causing the problem. I'm copying the URL listed on view image under the upload images page. Here is what I'm seeing/copying: http://www.williphotos.com/Backlight_Te … image&p1=8
Here is what I'm pasting into my copy dialog box: <img alt="Kirsten" src=”http://www.williphotos.com/Backlight_TestSite/backlight/designer/?c=page&a=image&p1=8” width=”300″ class=”alignright“>
The alternate title appears but only a box with an x inbox where the picture should be.
Where am I going wrong?
Rod - Your last message told me what I was missing. If I had only looked a little more closely at my CE4 Publisher entries, I should have figured it out on my own but I didn't. Thanks for the help.
Rod,
Here's what I mean. On my website (www.williphotos.com) back in CE4, I had two top level menu entries (Special Occasions & Recipes) that took you to different photo galleries and their pictures. That is what I'm trying to duplicate in Backlight. I can see now from your previous comments, that I could create two different album sets under the galleries menu item and accomplish something similar but I was hoping to do it as I did in CE4. Does that help clarify what I'm trying to do?
Ron and Matt - Thanks for your very helpful feedback. I'm finally starting to understand the difference between album set and albums which has been confusing me for a while. Now I think I can make progress on my original problem with a little more help. It seems that when I create an album set or album, by default, it automatically appears under the top level gallery menu item. Which is fine for one of my album sets/albums but if I create a second album set/album how do I tell publisher or Backlight under what menu item to put it? I'm sure it is easy but I can't figure out where to look or how to set it. Is it set in LR publisher or Backlight and where? If you can clarify this for me, I'm on my way. Thanks again for all your support. - Bill
I'm a huge fan and long time user of Turning Gate Products. Currently, my site (www.williphotos.com) was built using CE4 but I'm wanting to convert it to Backlight as soon as I'm comfortable with its features and know that I can functionally duplicate what I have now. So far I'm very impressed with Backlight and how easy and fast it is to build and modify a website. It is far easier than using CE4. That being said, I can't figure out how to duplicate with Backlight something I've done with CE4 on my current website. Basically, from my top level menu, I have a menu choice of Special Occasions, and Recipes. If you select Special Occasions it takes you to a number of galleries and if you select a gallery, it takes you to those photos. Choosing Recipe menu choice does the same thing but obviously takes you to different galleries and corresponding photos. I remember needing CE4 Auto-Index to implement this configuration but I don't see any corresponding to it in Backlight or a way to do it. As I said in the beginning, I'm a rookie at using Backlight so I may be just over looking something obvious. First please confirm that Backlight can do what I'm currently doing with CE4 and second suggest how it can be done. Thanks - Bill
Rod,
Thanks for the suggestion. I corrected the problem through the brute force method by deleting the offending album and then recreating it. Rather than spend more time on it that was clearly the easiest fix and it worked. Bill
Thanks Rod - You've calmed my nerves enough for me to move forward. Take care and thanks. Bill
I need a little guidance now that I've decided to use Backlight to redo my current CE4 website (www.williphotos.com). From what I seen and heard from others, who have already made the switch, I shouldn't be nervous but like any software upgrade, caution is always appropriate. Here are my concerns and questions before I begin. I'd greatly appreciate any help or suggestions you might offer considering your expertise, experience and past guidance which has been spot on.
1) I plan to maintain/update my current CE4 website and while I explore and get comfortable with Backlight and its capabilities. My first question is where should I install my test Backlight website (I use Bluehost) so as not to interfere with my current website, yet make it easy to transition once that time comes? My current website C#4 website resides in the root directory. Therefore do I create a new Backlight subdirectory off my root for my Backlight test website?
2) I noticed a comment from Matthew indicating that when you install the Backlight publisher portion, it replaces LR CE4 publisher instances. Maybe I misunderstood his comments, but that made me a little nervous but according to Matt, you can use the Backlight publisher to manage CE4 galleries. Is that correct and if so is it obvious how that works?
Suggestion or guidance would be appreciated. Thanks,
Bill
I need help solving a problem with my CE4 based website (www.williphotos.com). I have two pages with a number of galleries (Special Occasions and Recipes) on each but I'm only having a problem with one specific (sympathy) gallery. Here's the problem. When I use my publisher to update the gallery, it uploads or makes the desired changes but the changes do not show up the on my website. When I FTP into the Sympathy directory, I see the uploaded files in photos and thumbnails sub directory but they're not showing up on the website. As I indicated, this seems to be the only gallery that isn't updating.
Any ideas or suggestions what I should check or do to correct this problem? Let me know if there is anything else you might need from me or the site to help me correct this problem.
I look forward to your feedback which has always been helpful in the past.
Thanks,
Bill
Rod, thanks for your quick response. In one way, I'm happy you didn't see any problems but I'm still noticing the cropping on some photos on my iPad. For example, please take a look at images in the beverages gallery under recipes. I'm noticing cropping on all of the portrait photos. The extend of cropping is more severe when the iPad is in landscape orientation as opposed to portrait. But it occurs in both. If you get a chance, take a look.
Here is a specific URL for you to look at: www.williphotos.com/recipes/beverages/mobile.php
Thanks, Bill
My portrait photos, when selected, are getting cropped (top & bottom) whereas my landscape photos display fine. I've tried several things to correct the problem but with no success. Not surprisingly, the problem is worse, more noticeable on small display devices, phones, iPads, etc.) but it even shows up on my high res desktop display.
I'm confident there is a solution but I can't figure out what it is. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm using all CE4 components (gallery, pages, index). To see the problem, please visit www.williphotos.com. You'll find portrait photos under both special occasion or recipes menu selection. The thumbnails display properly but the problem appears when you select the photo.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Bill
If I install/upgrade to LR CC 6, will all my plugins, CE4 templates, etc be available automatically or will I have to reinstall them?
I'm wanting to use publisher to update/publish to an images to an autoindex folder. When I try to create my Album set in publisher, I get the following error dialog box. An internal error has occurred: TTGPublishServiceProvider.lua:376: attempt to concatenate field 'type' (a nil value). I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. I've successfully used publisher (a different instance of publisher than the one above) to created albums in my gallery folder. I had no problems creating those albums. Can you help?
I'm going crazy trying to figure out why I can't change an old hot link reference on my homepage. As background let me explain how I've set things up on my website: www.williphotos.com. I'm using the pages menu gallery entry, which I call Special Occasions, for one group of albums and I'm also using autoindex as another entry, which I call Recipes, for a second set of albums. My menu structure works exactly as I want. When someone selects Special Occasions they are taken to my Special Occasions albums. When someone selects Recipes, they are taken to my recipe albums. Everything works as it should thanks to help and recommendations from Rod Barbee a number of weeks ago.
Here's my problem. On my homepage, I make reference to those two menu entries (Special Occasions and Recipes) using the Homepage copy entry under the Color Palette. Here is what I have for the third paragraph that is giving me trouble.
To see my cards, select [Special Occasions](http://williphotos.com/galleries.php "Special Occasions") or [Recipes](http://williphotos.com/recipes/ "Recipes") on the menu above
You can see my two references to Special Occasions and Recipes. Selecting the Special Occasions url, takes you to the Special occasions albums page as I want but selecting the Recipes url takes you to "page no found." What's weird is when you hover over that url, it shows: http://williphotos.com/autoindex, not http://williphotos.com/recipes/ which is what I would expect considering how I've entered it. I've checked the home-main.html file in the fragments directory to ensure my url references are correct and they are.
So my question is where is that reference to: williphotos.com/autoindex coming from and how do I change it?
As I said, this simple thing is driving me crazy. If need be, please let me know if there is anything else you need to know or have access to to help me solve this problem. Thanks,
Bill
PS - As a last resort, I tried removing the hyperlinks and leaving only the words Special Occasion and Recipes and the embedded hyperlinks still show up. That convinced me I was doing something wrong or not changing it in the right place although I could not think where else to change it. In case you are wondering, I did flushed my web browser cache to ensure it was getting the changes I uploaded. Needless to say, that didn't seem to help.
Ron & Ben - Got it. I found the file you were referring to and made the change. All searches now seem to be working now on my iPad and iPhone on Safari. Thanks.
Ben - another quick question regarding your suggestion. I'm a bit confused where and which file you're suggesting changing. You indicate changing my search template_index.php. In my search folder I only see 3 files; index.php, lib.php, and mobile.php. I looked in the index.php file and didn't see the line you suggested changing so I'm confident I'm looking at the wrong file. Can you help point me to the correct one? Thanks. Bill
Ben - I'll give what you suggest a try and thanks for the help. I appreciate it.
Sure. I'm designing my website (www.williphotos.com) with CE4. I have included a search function which is working perfectly with Internet Explorer and Chrome on a PC. I tried the same searches on my iPad and iPhone using Safari. Neither returned any results. I thought the problem might be Safari so I tried the searches on a Mac Pro and again, as on the PC with IE and Chrome, everything worked fine.
My conclusion is that the problem isn't Safari but maybe IOS.
Any ideas?
Thanks.
