Thanks just a general inquiry. I was looking to see if I could explain why my site worked on backlight 2, not 3 and why some sites worked and others didn't. Don't like not being able to explain why even when it looks like its fixed
As i couldn't see any difference between the sites that worked and those that didn't. Nor could I see the difference between Backlight 2 and Backlight 3. I decide to do a complete overhaul of my apache setup. Because I didn't do it incrementally I cannot say which change fixed the issue but it appears to be now fixed.
One thing I did notice as i was comparing sites was the Backlight Installer folder had different versions of files, they looked as if they were the original when that particular Backlight was created. my oldest site had what looked like Backlight 1 installer files and another Backlight 2 installer files. Are these actually used or are they redundant once initial installation is complete?
This first image shows the landing page and that https is working. The third shows backlight admin and that after Clearing Template Cache the page is returned to the Dashboard and that HTTPS is working. The second image shows the failure to return to the Dashboard after updating the album files. If I then click on the address bar and press return then the page is updated to the dashboard
This is slightly changed behavior this time as previously Clearing Template Cache did the same thing, however, the gallery page is now corrupted (missing styling). This is after restoring Backlight 2 testing with no issues then updating to backlight 3
no, Bilt in apache and installed PHP as default install does not have some modules missing. I cannot understand nor see any difference between two working sites and none working other than working started life as CE4 but none working started life as Backlight 2. There is no difference in the host file between all sites. hosts file the same as well (other than site name)Its almost as if the page is trying to return to the Dashboard before something is complete
Ok last comment / request for ideas. It is independent of HTTP or HTTPS. I tried both and changed suitable URL settings. It is independent of Browser tried three.
If I get the error page and request a refresh no change but if I click anywhere in the address bar and press return then the correct page opens.
Mac running apache php 7
A new fresh install does the same thing.
Found Instructions under docs
Don't know if it helps but I sometimes see this when I go to the login page https://test-ttg.site/Backlight/admin/admin/login/ (still see the login page though
But not on the other misbehaving site. Redirect htaccess issue?
I understand the problems with providing help. It's just that it works until I upgrade then I get the errors. The only commonality between the two sites that don't work is they were created using Backlight 2. The two that do work have been around in one form or another since CE3. I think the issue is related to HTTP and https. Woking sites are both HTTPS the two that cause problems have been tried as HTTP and HTTPS. I may try to rebuild the test site from scratch using Backlight 3, Can you point me to a reminder of how to do it. Its been a long time
It is only on two of my local sites and only occurs after upgrading to Backlight 3. So it is not any of the local server settings that I can see, as two sites work. Unfortunately, it does not give me any confidence to update the live sites.
I have just restored the site to Backlight 2 and it works fine cleared template caches etc multiple times and no issues. But as soon as i upgrade logoff logon and then clear caches etc I start getting the Error page. It is an HTTPS local site. I am not prepared to update the live sites until I understand this issue
I have 4 local sites that I use to test my websites before publishing. especially one that iI wanted to experiment with Backlight 3 changes.
Since the update, when I clear template cache, update album files or update index files I get a blank page with the following message
This page isn’t working
xxxxxxx.site didn’t send any data.
ERR_EMPTY_RESPONSE
It is only on two of the 4 sites if I then use the back button I get the dashboard back with a success message bar.
I have restored the sites from early backups( the experiment one from a good time ago. Still getting the error page after the update. I also get it after performing each update.
yes, obviously something got stuck in the mac and needed a couple of reboots to clear it.
appears to be a mac issue. Although I had rebooted my machine and then my other local sites displayed the same problem a second reboot removed the issue on all local sites
I am sure I have seen this before, but my usual methods of fixing issues, clear template cache, delete sessions and log files and finally making sure permissions are ok have not worked
Sorry, it is my local copy. I have two other sites locally that updated to 2.014 no problem. But when I went to this site I received this message. I have updated my hosted sites no problem it is just this one local site that is doing this. Worked fine when i went to the site some weeks ago (as admin that is)
I always work on my site locally then only upload when I have tested it fully, it is the way I have worked since first using TTG some years ago.
Any idea what this means
Unexpected error: Allowed memory size of 134217728 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 140735015874160 bytes) in SimpleHTMLTag.php on line 113
the issue appears to be ownership files created by backlight have _www as the owner but all other files have me as the owner. this stems from apache config I think but trying to change its config file owner and user stopped it working altogether. I currently have a script that I run to change the owner. it solves the problem but more of a hack than a fix
Finally Got back at looking at this. I have set Backlight permissions as above Dir to 755 and files 644.
when trying to login to admin I get this error message (first part only)
session_start(): open(../backlight/data/sessions/sess_6iquib9b94ecpfsikmtpjkjncv, O_RDWR) failed: Permission denied (13)|#0 [internal function]: ErrorHandler::handleError(2, 'session_start()...'
then tried 755 and 666 still same message
I have cleaned the permissions on my local site to 755 on all folders, 744 on all files but to run Update Albums I had to put 777 on the backlight folder and Galleries.777 just on data allowed me to do some things but not update albums in backlight settings. This is no problem for my Local versions but i would like to know the bare minimum for more public versions
Sorry to be more accurate 744 on folders and 644 on files
I am trying to check/tidy up permissions on my local web server, then I will check my hosts.
What are the permission requirements on backlight folders and files. Currently i have reset my site to use 644 do i need 744 on the backlight folder
Thanks Daniel, in the process of implementing one at the moment.
It is my local machine, my host servers are working ok. but for development purposes I localhost my three websites on my MacBook. it is that these three that have stopped updating since I upgraded my MacBook to Catalina.
This may be a Catalina issue as this is the first update to Backlight since I upgraded.
There is some issue with permissions but changing them on core.zip did not fix the error. My Linus hosted site updated no problem.
