Homepage doesn't "Save" and doesn't show up on Website.

Hi,
Just got Backlight up and running. But when I try and save my homepage, nothing happens.  My galleries are on the website, but not the home, about or contact page.
Any ideas?
thanks,
Robert

Did you also purchase Pages and have you created a page named home?
Did you upload the required index.php and .htaccess files?

You’ll also need to create About and Contact pages

Re: Homepage doesn't "Save" and doesn't show up on Website.

Hi,
I thought I saw the index.php files but maybe I have to look for it again and re upload.  Where is the .htaccess file located, I can't seem to find it in any of the folders in the Backlight download.
Thanks,
Robert

If you purchased Backlight + Pages, it should be in the download folder next to the backlight/ and galleries/ folder,  the Publisher plugin and index.php file.
If you don’t see it then your OS isn’t set up to show hidden files.
You can Google how to reveal hidden files for your OS.

Re: Homepage doesn't "Save" and doesn't show up on Website.

Hi,
Thanks for the help.  I now have the .htaccess file on my server.  But when I try and create a page, such as home, about or contact and hit the SAVE button I get no response. Any help?
Did I put the hidden file in the wrong place. ?
Thanks,
Robert

Re: Homepage doesn't "Save" and doesn't show up on Website.

Hi
I can get to my website robertmckinney.com by going to robertmckinney.com/galleries/ so that may be a clue to what is happening. Otherwise I am "clueless"!
Again no luck hitting Save with any of the page designs...
Thanks,
Robert

In Backlight you're going to Designer > Pages and creating new pages, correct?
I'm not sure what you mean when you say you get no response when hitting save. Are you seeing the little save "gear" rotating after clicking the save button?

If you want me to take a look in your Backlight installation, feel free to email Backlight guest updater credentials.

Re: Homepage doesn't "Save" and doesn't show up on Website.

Hi,
When I "edit Page", and hit the "SAVE" button I get the message "this page was updated successfully".
When I "design page" and enter copy and hit the "SAVE" button nothing happens.
'll email you my guest password,
Thanks
Robert

Re: Homepage doesn't "Save" and doesn't show up on Website.

Hi Robert,

can you verify that you uploaded both the index.php and .htaccess files to the root of the site?

These files are found in the unzipped Backlight + Pages folder (or the Pages folder, if you bought Pages seperately)
You should see these items in the unzipped Backlight + Pages folder:

backlight/
galleries/
index.php
.htaccess
TTG-Publisher.lrplugin
readme.txt

make sure that on your server you have these:

/backlight
/galleries
index.php
.htaccess

Re: Homepage doesn't "Save" and doesn't show up on Website.

Hi,
Yes all of that stuff is on my server.  I just did it again to make sure.  I called the website support and they reported it all looks good, but they don't understand the file structure of backlight so they were no help there.
But yes all is up and good. At least as far as I can tell.

Hi,
I'm good...I just moved the index from the public ftp folder to the public html folder and it did the trick!
Now on to the actual design...thanks for walking me through this,
Robert

Backlight's structure isn't your standard structure. You'll not find an about.php or contact.php file in the root of the site. From what I understand, and Ben can explain it better, those pages are created on demand and are database driven. Much like WordPress in that respect.

Yep, all the Backlight folders and files need to go into the public_html folder.
