Wordpress Customizer

Hi, now I have installed the Wordpress plugin too.

But I don't know, what the following lines in Customizer mean, because I cannot see any difference after saving and reloading the page:

Excerpts Style:

Permalinked Headlines and Images? - The headlines are linked, but no image (ok how can I insert an image in the headline?)

Permalinked Headlines? - OK, it works and I understand.

Featured image on excerpts? - I don't understand and I cannot see any changes in a post.

Featured image over post title? - I don't understand and I cannot see any changes in a post.

I have translated all to german but ????????

Rainer

Re: Wordpress Customizer

Have you included a featured image in your posts?
When writing a post, you'll find the option in the right hand sidebar towards the bottom.

Re: Wordpress Customizer

Apperance > Widgets

You must be using a page template with at least two columns

Re: Wordpress Customizer

Thanks, found it, but, the calendar widget is very very poor, bad design. Sorry.

Re: Wordpress Customizer

There are other calendar widget besides the one included with WordPress. Do a Google search for Wordpress calendars

Re: Wordpress Customizer

OK, last question,

if I enable - Adjacent Post Links on Single Posts - there are links - Newer: and Older: -.

I didn't find the file, where I can change the translation to German. Do you know where I can find this?

Thanks and good night,

Rainer

Re: Wordpress Customizer

The theme is translation ready. You'll need to create a POT file. You can find tutorials to guide you through it; here's one:

Re: Wordpress Customizer

So - I got it. I have translated the Backlight Theme to German with Loco Translator. The only thing it didn't find was Tray 02. In the source code only Tray 01 was found. But this doesn't matter.

Question - the created POT file is stored in - backlight-template/languages -. I have read in internet, that it would be better to store the files in the folder - wp-content/languages/themes/backlight-template-de_DE.mo and backlight-template-de_DE.po.

So the translation will not be overwritten if Wordpress Theme will be updated.

Is this true?

Re: Wordpress Customizer

if you save it in wp-content/languages/themes/, then the files can't be overwritten by a theme update (I'm not sure about a WordPress update though)
If you save it in wp-content/themes/your-backlight-theme/language/, then it might be overwritten by a theme update. You can test this easily though.
If you want to save it inside the theme folder, then it's probably best to create a child theme and store it in the child theme folder.

Re: Wordpress Customizer

Yes, this is what I have written. wp-content/languages/themes/ is the right place.
Thank you,

Re: Wordpress Customizer

Not a bad idea to keep the language files outside of the theme folder. I will try to keep that in mind as something to research for a future version. Thanks.

@Rod

There was a Wordpress Update 4.7.2.
The translation files in folder wp-content/languages/themes/ are now missing. So I think your way with a child theme would be the best and easier way. Or like now, in /backlight-template/languages/, I think, if there will be an update later, the files will not be deleted if I copy the updated theme files via ftp (like the updates of backlight).

Re: Wordpress Customizer

Hello Rainer,

one question before I start with loco translator:
When select a line that contains something in square brackets like "Search for: [ label ]", the brackets are not repeated in the fiel for the source text. Will I have to repeat the bracketed part in the translation?

Glück auf!
Michael
