Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Hello community,

In Manage Localization menu, I translate all the fields in french for my website. I use the Photoswipe template, but after rewriting the fields and clearing the template cache, nothing happens on my site in Photoswipe slideshow : the text of the buttons hasn't been modified.

Would anyone have an idea?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Laurent

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

could it be browser cache? Have you tried clearing that?
And links to problem pages always help

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Yes I had already tried to clear the cache on my browser, but the problem subsists anyway. With another computer too. I don't understand where is the problem...

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Are you using the latest version of Backlight?
Can you post a link to an album?

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Yes, it's the latest version of Backlight (V.1.1.1). I install it last december.

Here's a link to an album : http://www.alpes-sud-photos.com/galleri … t_clapier/

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

This was fixed awhile back. See: http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … hp?id=6755

I'm able to make a change in my test site and see it take effect in albums.

Are you making the changes in Designer > Templates > Localization: Photoswipe Next and Previous?

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Yes Rod, I make changes in Designer > Templates > Localization: Photoswipe. I have modified all the fields in this menu (in Backlight v.1.1.1). I don't understand why it doesn't work.

The files in \backlight\modules\standard-album\fragments\pswp.php and \backlight\modules\module-pages\fragments\pswp.php have not been updated!

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

I wouldn't expect those files to change. I think any customization is inserted via the database.

Anyway, you could try downloading a fresh version of Backlight and replacing the module files I suppose.
Otherwise, wait for Ben or Matt to chime in.

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Thanks Rod for your help. I think that before downloading a fresh version of Backlight (perhaps the Framwork module would suffice), I will wait for the opinion of Ben or Matt.

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Not sure why it's not working for you. I've been able to change mine at will.

What about others? Like Maps, Zoom, and Toggle Full-screen. Are you able to change those?

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

I sometimes have to clear template cache as well as browser cache, but I've been able to change those settings.

The only things I can suggest is try clearing template cache some more and wait for Ben.

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

I've had a look at your site.  pswp.php will not change based on your Internationalisation values.  It's interesting that you think they would, because it sounds to me that you're seeing text such as "Previous (arrow left)" and "Next (arrow right)" within the pswp.php file itself.  This text has not been present in standard-album/fragments/pswp.php  since version 1.0.3 (it can still be found in module-pages/fragments/pswp.php)

Which version of Backlight are you running?  If anything prior to 1.1.1 I suggest you upgrade your site by downloading the latest files and following the steps in the changelog for 1.1.1: http://backlight.theturninggate.net/doc … _changelog

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Hello Rod, hello Ben,

My website is running with Backlight 1.1.1 version since 2016-11-27 exactly. As Rod suggests, I've already cleared template cache several times.

Do you think that the last solution would be to remove and re-upload the files and directories of Backlight 1.1.1 (by following the steps of updates) ?

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

That would be one approach.  A quicker way of doing it would be to remove and re-upload just backlight/modules/standard-album.

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

I just remove and re-upload backlight/modules/standard-album and clear template cache as well as browser cache... the problem persists. I don't know how to do it anymore.

Could a database be corrupted?

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

This is strange.  You'd have other issues if your database was corrupted.  Can you take a look at backlight/modules/standard-album/fragments/pswp.php and see whether this line near the end looks exactly like this line? (search for the text Next) to find it.

<button class="pswp__button pswp__button--arrow--right" title="<?php echo __t('loc.pswp.next', 'Next') ?>"></button>

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

I retrieved the file on my site and copied the line below: it is exactly the same text.

<button class="pswp__button pswp__button--arrow--right" title="<?php echo __t('loc.pswp.next', 'Next') ?>"></button>

Do you want me to send you by e-mail the pswp.php file ?

Thanks for confirming.  There's not much else I can advise without being able to see what you're seeing.  Can you provide me with an FTP login and Backlight login, using the Email link under my picture?

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Hi Laurent, thanks for the login details.  I have found why the language is not coming through, but do not understand how it could have happened.
The short story: Your Publisher database had the value 'Français' set for CART_LANGUAGE.  There is no Français localisation, so the default text is used instead.  I fixed this by changing the language to '1', which is the ID of the localisation used by Designer.

I don't know how 'Français' became the entered language.  Had you manually changed this in the database, or do you remember setting it elsewhere within Backlight?  Another possibility is that this had come from CE4 (although I can't see where it would have been entered in CE4...).  Had your site been migrated from CE4?  This is quite a mystery to me.

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Thank you so much Ben.

I now know where the problem comes from : I haven't migrated my site from CE4 and I haven't changed manually the language setting in the database. But I recently put "Français" in Publisher Settings menu in Backlight (by editing the Language field in Backlight) ! That was my mistake.

Again thank you very much Ben for taking the time to help me.

Laurent

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Hi Laurent, I'm glad that it's solved.

Where in Backlight did you set the language?  I can't find any place at all to manually set the language.

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

In Backlight > Publisher > Settings menu, I edit settings. In the Language line, I switched to edit mode and wrote "Français"...

Re: Problem with Backlight Designer Localization menu

Thanks for that.  I hadn't realised the setting was there.  Before editing, this sitting had the magic number '1', which needs to remain unchanged.  I'll look to find a way to hide the setting.
