Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

What is the current method to upgrade a CE3 site to Backlight 2? Is it possible without having to create a new site in Backlight 2 and re-publish everything?

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

Basically the same as upgrading from CE4.
If you were using CE3 Publisher you’ll first need to migrate your albums and sets to CE4 Publisher control then you can migrate them to Backlight.
See the CE4 Documentation for migrating from CE3 to CE4.

If you weren’t using Publisher with CE3 then you’ll need to re-publish everything.

So, since this is not a Publisher site, might as well call it a re-build.
Great opportunity for a re-design as well!

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

So, this would also apply to an OKAPI site? I have a site originally built in OKAPI but now managed by BACKLIGHT 2.

If I want all the page, galleries and contact pages to be PANGOLIN, do I have to re-publish everything?

P.S. The Contact page does not show up on this site. When clicking on the contact button, I go to Accueil (Home).

See the docs on updating:

What site would that be? Link?
look at your menu set

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

The site is https://pideja.ca/gbc/home/ Notice that the Accueil page and the Contact page are the same.
Yet I have designed a contact page. In the menu set, I tried page: contact and URL:https://pideja.ca/gbc/contact/ to no avail.

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

the slug of the page that the contact item links to is "home". Double check your menu set. Are you using the correct menu set?

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

I don't understand. I use the menu set named GBC-nav and is indicated as default, but I don't know where to find the slug you are talking about.

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

The slug is created when you create the page. It's called the Identifier. Look at the page properties in Backlight and you'll see it.

do you have another menu set, perhaps one named "default"? What is the name of the menu set being used by the page template?

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

I'm stumped.
I can't find another menu set that could be used. The one I created is the only one left since I deleted all others.
The identifier is "contact" and the template is GBC, which is the basic template used thru out.
The menu set is called "GBC-nav", not surprisingly.
All of these are OKAPI pages.
So, the settings pages are a little different than the Backlight 2 settings pages.
I plan to upgrade towards Backlight 2 as soon as I have this contact issue resolved.

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

Since I can only see the front end, it looks to me that the Contact menu item in the menu set is pointing at the Home page.

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

Seems I inadvertently "solved" the mystery...In Backlight>Designer>Pages>Contact>Edit Properties, I enabled INDEX PAGE.
I now have a Contact page. No, two Contact pages! The Home page is now the Contact page...

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

Something with pages isn’t working correctly

Make sure you have the proper index.php and .htaccess files in the root of the site

Also update your modules to the latest versions

Re: Upgrade from CE3 to Backlight 2

Ok, this is officially weird.
I created a Test Page. Named it Test. Identifier is test.
Added Test to the menu
Now the Contact link leads to the contact page
But the Test link also leads to the Contact page.

This is one for Ben

As far as I know, the Index and .htaccess have not been changed. This a cosmetic change to an existing site.
As to updating the modules, I am "barred" from access to the download page! See Order download error post I put up this morning on the forum.

So that was you...I'm sorry but finding the test page and thinking it was an error I had made, I deleted it from the menu. Oops!

How do I get Ben involved?

And, conversely, if I enable index page for the Home page, I get two home pages!

The home Page should be the index page
