Is there any way to reverse the order my galleries present in. Right now they are listing oldest to newest and I would like them post newest to oldest.

For the top-level galleries in Backlight, as well as any album sets, you can select among several options for ordering.
In Backlight, go to Publisher > Top-level Galleries. Click on the name of the top-level gallery and then Edit Properties. You'll see the Order Albums By option.
In album sets, the option Album Order is under the Basic tab

On top level galleries I was able to change the album order as you indicated above but I can't find a basic tab. So I went back to top level galleries and clicked on albums, which gave me a list of the gallery hierarchy and the various albums. I clicked on the albums and it gave me a list of the properties, including the album order, but there is no edit button that would allow me to change it. Can you point me in the right direction?

The basic tab is in Lightroom when you edit an album set in Publisher. To save changes to album sets, click on the Edit button.
But in Backlight, when you make changes, click the Save button.
