World Map Gallery

Hi,

I came across TTG due my search for a "world map gallery". I would like to share my travel pictures from allover the world with my family and friends.
I.e. I have a marker "Berlin" and if the user clicks on it a gallery with all images from Berlin should open. The same for "New York" and so on. Not sure if I got
it right but TTG is based on google maps, right? Is there any way to prevent that the user can zoom in too far? Would like to stay "outside a country" (you can see the shape of a country but no streets or anything closer than this zoom)

Are there any examples for this kind of stuff?

Cheers
Moritz

Re: World Map Gallery

TTG Gallery can link to Google maps, picture by picture, but it's not "based" on Google Maps.
The visitor clicks on a Google Map icon next to the thumbnail (or a large presentation image) and is taken to a Google Map page. You can set the zoom level so that the user sees the area you wish them to see.
So if you have a Berlin link on your site you'll need to have an existing Berlin gallery online.

The upcoming Search feature will allow a viewer to search on "Berlin" with the result being a gallery of images with Berlin in the file name, caption, title, or keywords. The down side is that this gallery can't have accompanying text specific to Berlin.

As an example of how this works, my Iceland gallery incorporates Google Maps.

Re: World Map Gallery

Hi Rod,

well so it's maybe no the solution I am looking for. My goal is to present a world map with several markes on it (i.e. New York, Berlin, Singapore ....) and if the user clicks a new gallery should open with all these images.

Of course I am open for new suggestions. Maybe for your interest, this is my current page: www.moritzjuergensen.info
I am looking for something new because for me it's a bit old-fashioned smile It does not have to be something very difficult I just want to offer something new, a bit more up2date. Due the fact I am using Lightroom 5 for my pictures it would be cool if I could use the web module as well.

Thanks
Moritz

Re: World Map Gallery

There's no TTG solution to the entire package you want to present. You could certainly use TTG galleries and link the markers on your current map to those. TTG Gallery gives you a thumbnail grid of images visitors can click on. If you like the style of slideshow galleries you currently have, you could use TTG Stage and employ the Galleria slide show.

Or if you're looking to update your current maps, there are javascript maps out there you could use. Here's one:

Re: World Map Gallery

I'm starting from scratch! The old page won't be used in anyway. Gonna try your maps when I get home. Maybe I could link TTG Gallery with a javascript map.

To be honest, I am willed to drop the map and use the "old-fashioned" menu style. The older I get the less time I have to spent for figuring around with code and stuff smile

In case I don't use a map, which package from TTG would you recommend?

Re: World Map Gallery

If you're doing a complete redesign, then TTG Pages for the website structure and TTG Gallery for traditional thumbnail galleries or TTG Stage if you want the slideshow galleries, and TTG Autoindex to split your galleries up into separate indexes (The Americas, Europe, Africa, etc). That's at the least. To make updating and adding galleries easy, then add TTG Publisher.
Pages creates several pages including your Home page, a Galleries index page, a Contact page, and three general purpose pages: Info, Services, and About.
If you write about your travels, you can also add a Wordpress blog page using Theme for Wordpress.

Another option, if you're going for a full redesign, is basing your site on Wordpress and use TTG Theme for Wordpress to create the Wordpress Theme. Then use Autoindex, Gallery, and (optionally, but highly recommended) Publisher to populate the site with galleries.

Since it looks like you're already blogging with Wordpress, this might be a more comfortable option for you.

Re: World Map Gallery

Read your blog and to be honest,  this (http://campagnapictures.com/) page is a blast!

Going to write a small site map and drop the map idea. I am not going to build the site on Wordpress, maybe I will just integrate a small blog. I am only blogging when the holiday lasts more than 3 weeks.

Going to think about either buying TTF Gallery or TTG Stage for the new page. Will read the two descriptions tomorrow, kinda late here in Switzerland.

Thank you Rod!

Re: World Map Gallery

smile my pleasure

May I ask you which TTG modules you are using?
CE3 Pages, CE3 Stage, CE3 AutoIndex, CE3 Publisher, CE3 WordPress Theme and CE3 Gallery?

This morning I made the site map for the future home of my pictures. Unbenannt.jpg So in case I realise this idea I do need the "CE3 Blog & Galleries Bundle" and the "CE3 Pages" module, right?
btw does CE3 stage replace the normal gallery module or is it just an extension?

Re: World Map Gallery

Campagna Pictures is built with:

CE3 Pages
CE3 Publisher
CE3 Gallery
CE3 Theme for WordPress

For your sitemap, it looks like you've categorized you galleries by continent, so for those categorizations you'd also want to use CE3 Auto Index.

Your best purchasing option would then be:

CE3 Blog & Galleries Bundle
CE3 Pages

Through I would consider CE3 Pages optional. For example, if you'd like your landing page to be the blog (rather than a full-screen thing like I have), then you could probably do without CE3 Pages.

CE3 Stage can act as a replacement for CE3 Gallery, though it's less capable. Stage is suitable for small-to-medium sized galleries, where CE3 Gallery can handle galleries of pretty much any size. It's also compatible with our shopping cart.

Re: World Map Gallery

But how did you get the slideshow (Auto Play) if you click on an image? Is that a CE3 gallery feature?

yeah, those categories seem to be the most efficient for my need. No, I don't want the blog be the landing page because I don't blog very often. Think something like yours would be better for the visitor. (I update my page once every 1-2 months wink )

Re: World Map Gallery

I see. Then like I said, you'll want to buy this:

CE3 Blog & Galleries Bundle
CE3 Pages

Setup according to this tutorial:
http://ce3wiki.theturninggate.net/doku. … publishing

And then run your blog from a subfolder under your main domain, or from a subdomain.

I'm not sure which slideshow you're talking about on my site. Can you give the link?

Re: World Map Gallery

okay, I purchased the modules you mentioned but I have some understanding problems, even with reading the manual hmm

I created a page with TTG CE3 Pages and multi-level navigation and I managed to rename the sub menu points.
How can I create a gallery from a folder in library and how does Auto-Index work? Every try ends up with pictures on the main page sad

I already read the manual but without success hmm

Re: World Map Gallery

Just follow this:
http://ce3wiki.theturninggate.net/doku. … publishing

Get Pages and Publisher setup, and publish your first gallery. After that, then you can start worrying about the auto index, etc. Nail the basics, then expand.

Re: World Map Gallery

I already published a gallery and it is showing on the gallery main page, that's working like a charm.
Have to figure out how I can add it  to a dropdown menu instead of the gallery main page smile

But yeah, you're absolutely right: Start with the basics!

Re: World Map Gallery

For drop down menus you'll also need to enable phplugins. If you want items in the /galleries/ folder automatically added to the Gallery drop-down, then use the "Drop Down Menu with autoindex" section of the phplugins.php file

Re: World Map Gallery

I have phplugins enabled and the extended dropdown menu is working i.e.
-Gallery
-- Europe
-- North America

I would like to add a gallery to Europe but when I export them they will appear in "Gallery" instead of "Europe". Hope I explained it clearly smile

Despite my "problem" your modules are awesome! *thumbs up*

Re: World Map Gallery

I would like to add a gallery to Europe but when I export them they will appear in "Gallery" instead of "Europe"

Using your FTP program, you can upload your galleries anywhere you like (whether that works for your site structure is another matter wink )

is Europe a gallery or an index? (you can only put galleries inside of indexes, not other galleries)

If it's an index, be aware that the autoindexing function can only "see" one level down. So the autoindex for the Galleries page can only see into folders directly inside the galleries/ folder. This means that Europe can be seen because it's in the galleries/ folder.
However, if you place a folder inside of the europe/ folder, say europe/france/, then the autoindex can't see that and it won't automatically appear in the drop-down list.

To get it to, you'll have to hard code the first level of folders and then invoke the autoindexing for each of those folders.
Here's a discussion on that: http://community.theturninggate.net/post/4948/#p4948

(not my modules, Matt gets all the credit. And Ben.)

Re: World Map Gallery

wanna laugh?

Found the answer to my solution on your page ^^

Inside this article (http://www.barbeephoto.com/blog/the-bas … -plug-ins/) at the very end you're writing about "landscape" and "portrait" galleries which is excatly what I want to do .... guess I have to learn to ask questions ^^

Thank you! and you too, Matthew!

Re: World Map Gallery

One last question:

I created the AutoIndex sites for my galleries. Is it possible to use the TTG CE3 Publisher to place the gallery in a specific folder (i.e. Europe or Asia)?

In the tutorial you are using an existent gallery for a template but that is for the case all galleries are inside the same folder, right?
