Upgrading CE4 CRG to Backlight 2 CRG

Re: Upgrading from CE4 to Backlight 2
To upgrade from CE4 to Backlight:

When it says “Unzip the Backlight 2 installer into a CE4 site, including:” into which folder do I put the files and folders? I only use CE4 CRG.

Thanks.

Re: Upgrading CE4 CRG to Backlight 2 CRG

I believe this is for if you are replacing a CE4 based site with a Backlight based site.

If your site is base on WordPress though (and you're only going to use Backlight for albums), then do not install the index.php and .htaccess files found in the root of the unzipped Backlight-2-installer-xxx folder.

For a WordPress based site, upload the backlight/ folder from the unzipped installer folder to the server at the same level as the galleries/ folder and the ttg-be/ folder.

If you were using Publisher for your CE4 albums, then leave ttg-be/ folder in place for now. There is a utility to transfer control from CE4 Publisher to the Backlight control.

Re: Upgrading CE4 CRG to Backlight 2 CRG

Hi Rod,

The CE4 CRG login is accessed by a link from the WP site.

www.mydomain.com/ttg-be/crg/

They're separate. I designed the CRG login page and galleries pages to look the same as the main WP site.

I just need to move all CRG albums and client login details from CE4 to Backlight.

Can the gallery page template I designed to look like the main WP site be moved across to Backlight too?

Re: Upgrading CE4 CRG to Backlight 2 CRG

you can't use any design work from CE4 for Backlight.

However, Backlight CR has it's own client login page that will use the page template you need to create in Backlight.

The new client log in will be yoursite.com/backlight/clients/

I take it you were using CE4 Publisher? If so, there is a migration tool in Backlight to move those albums from CE4 control to Backlight control, where you'll be able to assign the album templates you'll need to create. This is for images only, not settings.

One thing I'm not sure about is if you can transfer your old CE4 CRG settings, feedback profiles, and client data to Backlight 2. There was a migration tool in Backlight 1 to migrate CE4 CRG to Backlight but now the only tool is one to migrate Backlight 1 to Backlight 2 Client Response.

I suggest contacting Ben about that.

Re: Upgrading CE4 CRG to Backlight 2 CRG

Hi Rod,

So I upload just the Backlight folder into public_HTML.

There's already an existing .htaccess file in the public_HTML folder, but no index.php file. I upload neither of them?

After that I run the installer in the backlight folder?

I thought your site was based on WordPress. Or was it a CE4 based site?

Might help if you could post a screen shot of the public_html folder

Re: Upgrading CE4 CRG to Backlight 2 CRG

Hi Rod,

My website is WP, but it loads from a subdomain folder 'work'.

CRG CE4 galleries are in the 'client' folder.

On my main WP website I have a client login menu link to the CRG login page - www.mydomain.com/ttg-be/crg/

Re: Upgrading CE4 CRG to Backlight 2 CRG

What is the url to your site? I ask because if you put the index.php file from the root of the Backlight-2-Installer-xxx folder into the root of your site, the browser might use it.
Or do you have a redirect going on so that when people go to your url they get sent to the WordPress installation in the work/ folder?

If that's the case, then you probably don't want to upload the index.php and .htaccess files from the root of the unzipped Backlight-2-Installer-xxx folder and you can just upload the backlight/ folder to the root of the site and run the installer.

Hi Rod,

Yes, there's a redirect to the WP site installed in the /work folder.

Re: Upgrading CE4 CRG to Backlight 2 CRG

Ok. Then just install the backlight/ folder from the unzipped Backlight-2-Installer folder and follow the installation instructions starting at step 3
