#1 Re: Backlight 3 Support » Animated jpegs ? » 2020-06-07 15:51:17

Right, reel-animate it was. I still have it, but the PYM stuff looked a bit hairy. Might have a look at it some dark winters day.
Thanks for the suggestion.

A long, long time ago, in a TTG product far away, there was an album type that made it possible to load up a bunch of jpegs and have them show very quickly after each other like a movie, but at the same time you could steer the 'playback head' by dragging with the mouse.
I used it to make animations like this one : http://frozentime.se/spin/bts_show

Is there any way of doing that in Backlight ?

Is it possible to change the destination after returning from a contact form ?
I read a smart tip about taking visitors somewhere more interesting than a simple 'thank you' after they've mailed you.
So ideally a whole new page, which might be 'Thank you for your mail, have a look at some recent work while you're waiting for a reply', and a slide show.
Alternatively, just changing the text in the contact/?success would work, but how would I do that ?

#4 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Slow downloads and heavy siteloads » 2019-11-01 02:01:05

Who is your host ? I'm using backlight with one.com in Sweden, and find it a bit slow, though not as bad as yours. Back in CE4 days, my site was blindingly fast, but the extra overheads in Backlight seems to be a pushing one.com. I'd like to have bigger images, but have to keep them small for a reasonable response time.

#6 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Vegas slideshow slow ? Can we switch off preloading ? » 2019-03-30 02:54:36

Thanks, that was useful and interesting, but showed me that Backlight doesn't change the default for preloading (which is false).
I tried setting the parameter to true just for fun, but saw no change (I did remember to clear the cache).
So it seems that there's something fundamentally slow about the vegas slideshow with a lot of images. Pity.

The lag on vegas slideshows starting up is proportional to the number of images, which makes me suspect that
all the images are being preloaded. A 40-image show takes 10 seconds, which is a long time. OK, maybe my host one.com isn't the fastest, but everything else runs fast enough, and back in CE4 days a 40-image show started instantly.
I think I found documentation that says vegas slideshow has parameters preload and preloadImage, but it also suggests that the default for both is false.
If TTG have changed that, could we have an option to rest them, and if not, is there some way to get the slideshows faster ?
(I've dropped my opening page to 20 images, but 5 secs is still a little to long. frozentime.se)

Great. Should have been able to spot that, yet somehow I didn't.
Thanks.

How do I get the Vegas slideshow to run in random order ?
Editing the album under Publisher I can set the cover image to random, but the order list doesn't include random.
Editing the template gives me lots of options for the Vegas slideshow, but not show order.
And yet I find a community post by hndrsn who seems to have found a setting for it.
What am I missing ?

#10 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Explanation of .htaccess file ? » 2018-12-04 18:03:22

Great. All my old pages work now, living happily alongside my BL site,
Thanks for the quick support.

#11 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Explanation of .htaccess file ? » 2018-12-03 17:03:45

Thanks for the quick reply, but the .htaccess in the Backlight-2-Installer-105 that I just downloaded seems to have the same .htaccess, and its date is 2018-10-09 as with the other files.

Would it be possible to get an explanation of the contents of the .htaccess file ?
I have successfully converted my CE4 pages to BL2, but I have an awful lot of older hand-coded pages that are upset by the appearance of the new rewrite rules.

I understand that they are needed when using the Pages module, and saw a comment "that they are probably there for a reason",
which I'm sure is true, but I would like to understand why they are there in case there are some lines that in my case could be commented out.

For example, I have dozens of old pages that refer to image files that live at the top level (bad organisation, but stuck with it after 20 years of development), and all those links get broken unless I comment out the PNG and JPG rewrites.
My BL2 Pages appear to still work without those lines, even when they contain embedded jpegs, but I would like to know if I'm setting myself up for problems later.

I'm sure I'm not alone in having a big old site with a mixture of BL and legacy pages that would take weeks to reorganise, and there are probably other people who are adding hand-coding to BL pages who would benefit from an understanding the .htacces file.

#13 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Phantom albums called "/" after CE4 migration. Deletion kills parent. » 2018-11-15 00:04:28

Oooooh, that was scary, but deleting records with slug = NULL fixes the problem.
Thanks so much !

#14 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Phantom albums called "/" after CE4 migration. Deletion kills parent. » 2018-11-14 23:41:04

Yes, I tried deleting from the BL interface, and because the file was called "/", it deleted the parent directory, so I lost all the other albums in that directory, and had to rebuild them all, so don't want to try that again...
I'll mail Ben.
Thanks,
Mark

I'm generally very happy with my move to Backlight2, but the CE4 migration has produced some phantom albums called "/" (eg http://frozentime.se/socialchefsdagarna//), and if I delete them in the Backlight Publisher interface, the parent directory disappears, taking with it all the good albums.
Trying to edit the properties to make the album invisible causes a PHP error as Backlight tries to rename "/".
There is no real album corresponding to the Album Name, which I guess is why the interface sets the filename to "/".

Is there any way to get at these phantom files in the database ?
If not, maybe a future release could be trained to ignore files called "/", or at least not try to delete them when removing from the DB.
(Realised I posted in Backlight and not Backlight2. Sorry. Please move as appropriate)

#16 Re: Backlight 2 Support » CRG: No Check Boxes On Mobile » 2018-11-10 21:14:51

It would be great to be able select on the thumbnails on a mobile like we could with CE4. Not just because sometimes it will be easier than having to click on every image, but also because clients will also go 'Huh ? How do I select ?', and we'll have to explain to every client that you have to dig deeper. Any chance of that happening ?
In the example show (http://theturninggate.net/galleries/01- … t-proofing), viewed on an iphone, the thumbnails don't even show an empty heart for the unselected, even though the help box suggests it should. At least showing empty hearts would alert clients that the option to fill them exists somewhere.

#17 Re: General » TTG CE3 and PHP 7(.2) » 2018-11-09 22:24:08

I have the same problem, with hundreds of legacy galleries using CE4, many of them standalone, so hard to even find them.
So if anyone has a good code fix, I (and presumably many others) would be super grateful.

Hi,
I was hoping to use the 2018 grid gallery plugin to make a template for CE4 publisher, but it doesn't seem to work.
I'm guessing now that I was supposed to understand that from "creates standalone, static image galleries".
Can you confirm that I should stop trying ?

#19 Re: CE4 Gallery » forward and back arrows in mobile touch and magnific albums » 2017-08-14 22:05:12

Wow, that was much easier than I expected. Thanks a bunch !

#20 Re: CE4 Gallery » forward and back arrows in mobile touch and magnific albums » 2017-08-14 18:04:04

Oooh, that would be nice to do until I get round to installing backlight.
But where should I put that code ?
I've dabbled a bit with PHP scripts in CE4, but it was a while ago, and didn't include css.
Do I need to put it in the final uploaded code, or can I insert it via phpplugins ?
Thanks,
Mark

#21 Re: Backlight Support » Theater 104 producing empty slideshow » 2016-10-03 17:14:40

I had the same problem with the trailing slash, so have now set "Page URL Format" to "about.html", and Vegas shows up every time now.

#22 Re: Backlight Support » Images in a page » 2016-06-10 01:22:53

Oh OK, so we just build each pages like normal HTML web page. Fair enough.
Thanks.

Hi,
Is it possible to have a single image on a page, rather than a gallery ?
Seems a rather obvious feature, yet I can't find out how to do so, and don't see any such pages in the examples.

I though maybe it would come when Stage comes, but then the change notes for 1.0.2 said "Improved single-image HTML pages",
suggesting that the possibility is there. And then there is the option to upload single images.

But on the Design page I get the option to Insert Album or Insert Album Set, yet no Insert Image.
I'm rather sure I updated correctly.

Any hints to what I'm missing ?

#24 Re: CE4 Pages » "Function name must be a string" errors » 2016-04-08 22:52:55

The problem is solved.
Matt was of course right that my plugin wasn't up to date (sorry for doubting you).
Thought I always installed as soon as updates arrived.
Then I was confused by my host provider giving me PHP 7 on my new site, but leaving the others on 5.6.
And when I tested that theory by rolling back, it took an hour for the change to be implemented....

Thanks !

Hi,

I am up to date, and my other sites work fine. I also just tested setting my host PHP back to PHP-5.6, with no change.
