#1 Re: CE4 Publisher » Twitter URL shortening issue » 2015-04-15 00:19:51

Hi Ben and/or Matthew, anything on this?
Would love to have tweet action for an image in slideshow mode generate short URLs, similar to the page level share buttons. Can I request any inputs you may have on this?

Not sure whether I should have posted it in the Gallery forum or here. Since I use Publisher to push out all my albums, I decided to post here. Let me know if it belongs in the Gallery forum instead.

Thanks in advance,

Rajiv

Hi Ben, thank you for your quick response.

I have made the change to the template file and cascaded via Update Album Files. All galleries are now resolving single.php links. Now I just need to remember to make the change again if and when there is a new release for Publisher. Will likely put a Readme.txt file in the folder where I store downloaded plug-ins.

Your email below does make me wonder what is unique about my setup that there is only one other similar situation that you have come across. In any case I am glad you found a fix for this seemingly unique situation. Thank you.

On a side note, I am thoroughly enjoying using the CE4 suite of plug-ins. Absolutely brilliant software!

Hi there,

My setup:
1. CE4 Gallery, CE4 Auto Index, CE4 Pages, CE4 Stage, and CE4 Publisher
2. I have created required templates for Gallery, Auto Index and Stage, and use Publisher to push out the albums to my website - http://rajivkhanna.photography/
3. I have set up URL shortening in all my templates, specifying my Bit.ly username and API key, and have enabled display of Share Buttons on my website pages

While testing the website, I notice that short URLs do get generated when I press the "Tweet" share button on a gallery grid. Example - http://rajiv.ph/1yp5nxo

However, if I press the Tweet icon in the Highslide slideshow, it still generates the full URL. I am referring to the small Sharing buttons shown at the bottom of the slideshow picture to the left of Map and Permalink buttons.

It would be nice if short URLs could be generated in this mode too, since tweets at an individual image level are likely more meaningful than to tweet an entire page.

Any comments and suggestions welcome.

Thank you,

Rajiv

Hi there,

I do some photography as a hobby, and have recently started setting up my website.
My setup:
1. CE4 Gallery, CE4 Auto Index, CE4 Pages, CE4 Stage, and CE4 Publisher
2. IN CE4 Gallery, I have set up Highslide Slideshow for desktop and Touch for mobile, and have enabled permalink button to be displayed in slideshows
3. I have created required templates for Gallery, Auto Index and Stage, and use Publisher to push out the albums to my website - http://rajivkhanna.photography/

When testing my site, I noticed permalink button generates xxxx-single.php link which comes up blank in the browser. Example - http://rajiv.ph/1EvCikw

Did a lot of research on the forum and came across another post from Sep 2014 where Ben provided a fix to the .htaccess file - http://community.theturninggate.net/post/23026/#p23026
In the post Ben said that it was being tested and had not been pushed out yet.

I tried this fix on one of my galleries, and lo and behold the single.php links started getting resolved!! Example - http://rajiv.ph/1IGwWpb

So my question is whether I should consider this "fix" as final and cascade it to all .htaccess files via Publisher Admin, or is there another, final fix?

Thank you,

Rajiv
