Don't do any of this. I told you, next release will have controls to handle these labels.

Why? It works. When the next update will be released the changed files will be replaced anyway.

Hi Patrick, if I've understood you correctly, the Auto Refresh button you're referring to is only visible if you are logged in as admin.

Not an issue then.

OK. For those who have a similar problem :

1. Edit the two files mentioned above and translate the hard-coded lines. Example in french:

<button class="pswp__button pswp__button--arrow--left" title="Pr&eacute;c&eacute;dente (fl&egrave;che gauche)"></button>
<button class="pswp__button pswp__button--arrow--right" title="Suivante (fl&egrave;che droite)"></button>

2. Mark the album to Republish in LR.
3. Republish.
4. Go to the Designer and Clear Template Cache

The navigation buttons in Photoswipe mode should now appear in your language.

Be aware that after installing the next release, your changes will be overwritten. Be sure to keep a copy in case the next release wouldn't allow localization from the Designer UI.

I tried to translate in place but this didn't change anything. So I guess I should re-publish?

There's also the tooltip for the "Enable auto refresh" button. This one appears to be generated by the Publisher but there's no corresponding entry in the Publisher settings. This is probably hard-coded in one of the LUA files but since they are obfuscated, there's nothing I can do to fix this.

This exists. Please have a look at the Backlight Tips&Tricks Forum.

Daniel,

This is nice to have but this is not what I call a FAQ. This forum section doesn't contain answers to the basic questions I had when starting to use Backlight and that were not handled in the documentation.

Hi,

I have just migrated my site from CE3 to Backlight : www.ppphoto.fr . Everything seems to work fine with exception of a few details. It will further evolve as I'll add new images and galleries (I was stuck with CE3 which no longer works in LR). It's in french (with some german references) but rather self-explanatory. If you need to translate some text, just ask.

Good visit.

#83 Re: Backlight Support » Backlight documentation » 2016-07-14 22:39:45

OK. Let me make a suggestion : each time you have to answer a question or solve a particular problem more than twice in this forum or after a user support request, add the answer to the documentation or to a Backlight dedicated FAQ (unless, I missed something, I'm not aware of any FAQ related to Backlight?).

This way, we'll all spare time. I appreciate the very quick answers on this forum but I guess that the Backlight developers prefer to spend their time enhancing their code or coding new features.

Hi,

[Starting a new thread about this issue]
In Photoswipe mode, the navigation buttons text (infotips) localization is not taken into account. English text anyway (Next (arrow right), etc.). Why is the localization reserved to the "Single-image Pages" section?

It's annoying because all text on my site is in french and I can't localize these buttons. Is this hard-coded and should I change some source code somewhere?
...
Apparently, this text is actually hard-coded in two files

\backlight\modules\standard-album\fragments\pswp.php
\backlight\modules\module-pages\fragments\pswp.php

I can translate the text in-place but it will be replaced with the english version after the next update.

#86 Backlight Support » Dropdown list useless when only one album set » 2016-07-14 21:42:18

Hi,

When inserting an album set in a page, there's a dropdown list installed at the top left of the page. However, it is useless when only one album set has been created. I couldn't find a way to remove it. What did I miss?

Thanks.

#87 Re: Backlight Support » Republish or not republish, that's the question... » 2016-07-14 21:00:38

OK, Ben. Thanks.

So what means this "gear icon" that may or may not appear at the left side of a Designer section title?

Hi,

May I safely assume that modifying any setting in a Designer section marked with that "gear icon" implies republishing the album?

Thanks.

#90 Re: Backlight Support » Contact form not working » 2016-07-14 06:39:33

Ben,

For the moment, my server is a Synology NAS running Apache HTTP Server 2.2 and PHP 5.6. I have no problem updating the code. Just tell me what to change.

Thanks.

Overwrite does not mean Replace. I reckon it should... but it doesn't and suspect the same thing is happening with other FTP apps and hence causing all these update problems.

I doubt it is an FTP issue. I had the problem although I didn't use a FTP client : I'm testing my site on a NAS and I have direct access to folders. So I'm merely using a file synchronizer to update (Beyond Compare). And I'm pretty sure that the files were replaced (overwritten) during the first attempts. The problem was fixed only after deleting the files from 1.02 not present in 1.03.

Hi,

I got the following error message when trying to send an email:

Something went wrong
preg_replace(): The /e modifier is deprecated, use preg_replace_callback instead in PHPMailer.php on line 1442

Did Backlight shoot itself in the foot ? :-)
Should I modify the source code myself as indicated?

And a link to the site with issues is always helpful.

Thanks. As already explained elsewhere, I'm working with a local test site installed on a NAS. No external access allowed.

Anyway, exiting the browser and reloading solves only one problem: the display mode is actually reset. But in Photoswipe mode, the button text localization is still not taken into account. English text anyway. Why is the localization reserved to the "Single-image Pages" section?

Hi,

Where are the metadata macros used in Backlight documented? I have learned to use {title} and {caption}. Where are the others? Should we systematically use the actual EXIF tag name ?

Thanks.

Hi,

If I want to add an image to an album, should I publish that image only or should I republish everything? In the latter case, will all images be re-uploaded again?

Thanks.

That is, in Photoswipe mode. The localized text is taken into account in single-image mode. Since I also can't find any information in the doc about this, here we go:

What is the difference between single-image mode and photoswipe mode? When I change this option in the album template, I just see the buttons displayed above the image. Otherwise, no change. But in that case, the left and right arrows no longer work. I have to click on the buttons to go to the next image. If I return to Photoswipe mode in the template, the buttons stay like in single-image mode (above the image).

Should I republish each time I change the mode?

Under Image Settings in the album template designer, there is a field allowing you to configure the image caption.

Yes. But I needed a little time until I realized that for this setting to be taken into account, I had to mark the album for republishing and publish again. Just changing the template has no effect.

By the way, in the same section, I have localized the text for the Next, Previous and Back buttons. The change is merely ignored, even after republishing. The infotips opened when hovering the buttons are still in english.
