#26 Re: CE4 Publisher » Create Album defaults to the wrong Album Set » 2016-04-06 23:41:38

I haven't moved anything yet I'll tell you know how that goes.

Getting back to your last answer - I believe the procedure is to create CE4 Auto Indexes and CE4 Indexes in the Web module and upload them with no photos to the ttg_be autoindex and gallery folders - then they are available in Publisher to select as your templates, correct?  That's what I've done in the past.  I'm not sure what you mean by saying they are stand alone and don't work with Publisher.

#27 Re: CE4 Publisher » Create Album defaults to the wrong Album Set » 2016-04-02 03:45:13

Thanks Rod.  I believe I followed the correct procedures.  I think it was a connection problem.

I'm moving to a new server with the SAME domain name.  I plan to copy the ttg-be folder, templates and auto-indexes and put them in the exact same place.  I don't want to waste time and bandwidth downloading everything, so I'm hoping Publisher will just connect and see that all the photos need republishing.  I don't use any plugins so that will make it simpler. I'll let you know.

#28 Re: CE4 Publisher » Create Album defaults to the wrong Album Set » 2016-04-02 01:55:44

Finally getting back to this - I've been really busy with other projects.

Yes, you are correct with this. "Or are you directly uploading new autoindexes and new galleries along side your existing album sets?" Yes I did.

Thanks for the clarification about Copy Settings From Album.

Update:  I have a feeling this had something to do with my notoriously lousy hosting company.  Because when I came back to it and tried again about a month later it suddenly worked.  No error messages.  And I hadn't changed anything.

But I have now signed up with a new hosting company and I'm going to have to reload everything on the new server.  Does the Publisher connection rely on IP numbers?  If so, I presume I'm going to have to set it up again.  If it only uses the domain name I should be able to just re-publish everything, with the settings as is, correct?

Thanks
Charles

I'm having trouble again with Publisher.  I have 2 existing album sets with albums inside of them.  I want to create a 3rd album set with albums in it.  I have created and uploaded the auto-index and the indexes for the albums for the 3rd set.  When I create Album Set number 3 and then try to create an album inside it, it defaults to the auto-index and photos from set 2.  The folder choices in Copy Settings From Album are all from number 2.

What is Copy Settings From Album used for anyway?  Why would you ever want to copy the settings from an album in a different set?

Thanks

Thanks Rod.  Got it. I forgot you have to publish a single photo and then it uploads the new sort order.

Previously, in order to change the order of photos in an Album, without having to re-publish them all, the trick was to move one photo out of place and then back into place and the Publish button would become clickable. Then when you clicked Publish you would be resending the xml sort order info without uploading the actual photos.  A very fast workaround.

It no longer works in my CE4.  Moving photos does not make the Publish button clickable. Is there another quick way to do this without having to upload hundreds of photos just to change the order?

Thanks

I have an Album that's 30 pages in length.  Is there a built-in option to add one of those, go to the first and last page navigation items?  If so, where is it?  If not, can I add it in php?  What is the code to do it and what is the code to position it where I want?

#33 Re: CE4 Auto Index » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4 - part 2? » 2014-11-27 05:18:52

You'll be happy to know I finally have this solved. smile

My mistake number one was setting the top-level folder to photog/wildwood - but I assumed I had to do this for each level of auto-indexes when you said:

By using autoindexes to the /photog/ folder rather than using Album Sets you're forcing yourself to create a separate Publisher instance for each of those autoindexes you upload. Unless that's what you want.

Mistake number two was missing the brackets in this line and just looking at the levels you created:

photog/           (autoindex uploaded via ftp - this would be the top level galleries folder)

I was under the assumption that an autoindex should never be uploaded to anywhere other than the templates/autoindex folder manually via ftp.

So, I created an auto-index and manually uploaded it to photog/ which now will be the top-level auto-index, and I set the top-level folder in Publisher to photog/ so that now each Album Set will be an auto-index within that folder.  Only one instance of Publisher is needed.

Thanks for all your help.  Sorry about all the back and forth figuring this out.

#34 Re: CE4 Auto Index » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4 - part 2? » 2014-11-26 06:11:52

Please leave the if scenarios out of it for now - they're just confusing my problem.  I want my site to look exactly like Ben's example and it won't work like that.  I'm thinking it has to be something I've done in Lightroom itself.    Here's another screen shot of my settings and the result - same as always - I can't get an auto index to appear in "photog/wildwood" no matter what I try.  And the "Home" button in the first year's gallery "2003" goes to "photog" instead of "photog/wildwood".

Thanks

#35 Re: CE4 Auto Index » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4 - part 2? » 2014-11-25 00:46:22

you'll also need to upload your autoindex to the ttg-be/templates/autoindex/ folder.

Done.  It's always been there.

This needs to be an autoindex and can't be managed by Publisher because it's Publisher's target folder

Not sure what this means.  I have to have my top level folder set to photog/wildwood - since that is the top of my catalogue within photog.

Problem for me is that I cannot get the auto-index to publish in photog/wildwood.  Maybe the pics below will help.

I had to use the link - for some reason the image tag doesn't work.

Sorry guys I was busy for awhile and not able to update this until now - I see the first post is closed http://community.theturninggate.net/post/24162/#p24162 so I have created a "part 2".

I think we're nearly there solving this.

OK so what it comes down to is this. In Ben's example, which works perfectly, the way I want it, the following files -  which are, of course, the auto index files - are uploaded to the "ben-photog" folder:

autoindex.xml
index.php
setup.xml
template_index.php

and the "wildwood" folder:

autoindex.xml
gallery.xml
index.php
lib.php

However, in my setup using "photog" and "WildWood" none of these files exist in either folder, thus no index appears. If I have this correct, I am only supposed to upload the auto index to the ttg-be/templates/autoindex folder.  I am not supposed to upload them manually to these other folders, so why are they there in Ben's installation and not mine?

#37 Re: CE4 Publisher » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4? » 2014-11-13 00:49:12

Thanks Ben.  I haven't gone over this in detail yet, but at a quick glance I see you're going by the same assumption that Rod did which is that I want more Album Sets within each year.  This is perfect for "nature" etc. but to clarify, WildWood is just the name we use for our garden at home.  So WidlWood is the ONLY autoindex.  There is no further breakdown from there into albums because each year contains all the photos from that year.  I could break it down into months I suppose but that would require more click throughs.  I'll add more to this when I've studied what you've done.  So, I don't want Album 1, Album 2, Album 3 within each year.  That's where I ran into problems.

#38 Re: CE4 Publisher » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4? » 2014-11-12 04:54:17

Rod, I see by your diagram where you are not understanding what I'm trying to do.  You are creating 2 levels of Album Sets, whereas I only want one for WildWood.  2009 is an Album not an Album Set - there is no level below that - everything goes into one year.  Although for Nature I probably will use your setup with sub-Album Sets.

As for the autoindex, then it must be the link that is set in "site root" that tells the Autoindex what directory level to place itself.

Ben, I've setup the folder "ben-photog" and set it to 777. I created an Admin level user for you

I guess you also need an FTP login.

#39 Re: CE4 Publisher » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4? » 2014-11-08 02:34:30

Hi Rod, Clearly, I'm confused by some of your advice.

The following comments assume that I'm using an instance of Publisher with the top level gallery directory set to photog/WildWood, because if I don't create an instance of Publisher with photog/WildWood as the top level gallery Publisher doesn't place anything in the WildWood folder because it's using photog as the top level and there is no way to tell an Album Set what folder to put itself in on the server.  (As I said somewhere else in this post if you could simply set the Album Set slug to "WildWood/WildWood-2014" you could use the default instance of Pubisher with the top level gallery set to photog - that would solve everything.)

set Wildwood as the top level gallery folder. Create Album Sets for each year. Place albums inside of those year sets

or if "galleries" is already the top-level folder, then create an Album Set for Wildwood and place more Album Sets within it.

I'm using "photog" instead of "galleries" so you're saying here  (I think) to make "photog" "WildWood" but I don't want that because there will be other top level folders as well (nature, zoo, etc.)

Or, to create an Album Set within an Album Set - which doesn't work, it's creating the two levels of yearly folders (WildWood-2014/WildWood-2014).

2. Create Album Sets for WildWood, nature, zoo, etc.

In my tests these Album Sets show a connection to the autoindex that I have created in the Web Module and uploaded to ttg-be/autoindex/ when I create them (in the dropdown), but when I go to the index page's URL there is no index found.

Optionally create Album Sets within Album Sets

This results in the two levels of yearly folders. This makes sense to me - I'm creating two levels of Album Sets so Publisher creates two levels of folders.  Anyway, it seems counter intuitive to have to create an empty Album Set for every year - just to place an Album inside of it.

Album Sets are autoindexes.

I don't understand the connection between uploading an autoindex in the ttg-be/autoindex folder and the pics in the separate photog folder.  How does Publisher find the index.php file (and the rest of the files to display the index) for the appropriate autoindex when it's in a separate folder?  This works OK (for me) if everything is in the root photog and I only have one autoindex - but as soon as I create another level (Photog/WildWood) there is no connection between the autoindex and that folder.  I just get an error on the album index level. I just checked again, the site root of my autoIndex is set to http://whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/ - and that is the correct upper/lower case structure in case my server is particular about that.

This is the current state of affairs.

Guest admin is enabled here: http://whatwant.ca/ttg-be/admin/

I have removed the autoindex in the photog/WildWood folder so you can see the 403 error (everything in photog is set to 777 and everything in ttg-be is 755) http://whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/

The following is created in an instance in Publisher called WildWood with top level galleries folder set to photog/WildWood/

I've made an Album Set called WildWood 2014 with an Album inside it called WildWood 2014.  If you go to this page:
http://whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/wildwood-2014/ - you'll see this error:
"Unable to find ./../../../ttg-be/publisher/application/../../templates/autoindex//setup.xml"
Because, as per the screenshot of how Publisher uploaded that Album it put it here:
http://whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/wild … wood-2014/

I've made a second Album with NO Album Set called WildWood 2006.  This is where it should be:
http://whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/wildwood-2006/
However, you'll notice that the "home" link in the Breadcrumbs is photog, not photog/wildwood/ and if you go to home that page is also a 403 error.

Charles
Have a good weekend.  I won't revisit this till Monday - it's only a personal setup so there is no rush to get it solved. Thanks.

#40 Re: CE4 Publisher » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4? » 2014-11-07 05:54:29

have you tried this with just one publisher instance pointed at photog/ and then just create Album Sets within that?

Yes, as I said above, that does not create an Auto Index in a folder called WildWood inside my top level gallery - because it has no idea that the folder is there.

I've created a nice Photoshop screenshot of my FTP folders with text and arrows which I hope will explain it better.  I think the only way to do this is to create a Publisher instance with the top level gallery as photog/WildWood/, upload the Auto Index to the photog/WildWood/ folder and NOT create Album Sets.

TTG-FTP.jpg

The problem is now that I've created this I'm screwed again because when I delete the folder Wildwood-2014 inside WildWood-2014 Publisher will want to add a new index number and make the folder WildWood-20142 and the only way to clear this is to delete everything in ttg-be and start again - it would be nice if there was a "reset" ttg-be button.

P.S.  Is there no way to upload the photo to the forum?  That way future generations can see it, I don't want to leave it on my server forever.

#41 Re: CE4 Publisher » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4? » 2014-11-07 05:12:36

Hi Rod,

I updated my post just as you added your answer, not sure if you saw my latest edit.  As you said here - I should create a new Publisher instance for WildWood so that's what I did.

If using Publisher, you'll need to set up separate Publisher instances for each top level folder.

By using autoindexes to the /photog/ folder rather than using Album Sets

But I have to use Album Sets because I want an Auto Index page at photog/WildWood.

I still don't get it - I want this:

whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/
                                                  /2014
                                                  /2013
                                                  /2012 ...etc.

And I'm still getting this:

whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/2014/2014
                                                  /2013/2013
                                                  /2012/2012 ...etc.

If I don't create a new instance of Publisher with the WildWood folder as the top level the Auto Index assumes that /photog is my top level and puts the index there.

#42 Re: CE4 Publisher » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4? » 2014-11-07 02:18:37

You should be able to uninstall it from Lightroom by going to the Plug-in Manager, highlight "TTG CE3 Publisher" and click Remove

I had already done that and the "remove" was greyed out but it was still there - however, I clicked on the CE3 Publsiher and clicked "disable" and then it disappeared.

Then Wildwood, nature, and zoo should be Album Sets created via Publisher, not uploaded autoindexes.

But I want an autoindex - and I thought I had solved this by trying something radical.  I uploaded the autoindex for WildWood to the photog/WildWood/ folder instead of putting it in ttg-be/templates/autoindex/ and it worked perfectly until I added more Album Sets - now each one defaults to "WildWood Auto Index" even if I select "No Index" and once again puts it inside a folder, inside a folder like this:  photog/WildWood 2013/WildWood 2013/

It seems to me this should be something pretty basic, to have your albums inside a folder for different topics, but as you can see I can't get it to work no matter what I do.

#43 Re: CE4 Publisher » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4? » 2014-11-06 02:07:15

I'm trying to make my top level folder 'photog' for all of TTG because there are other folders in that URL that are not photo galleries - so eventually I want the structure to look something like this

whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/
                                                  /2014
                                                  /2013
                                                  /2012 ...etc.
whatwant.ca/photog/nature/
                                             /boulevards
                                             /butterflies
                                             gardens ...etc.

whatwant.ca/photog/zoo/
                                         /2014
                                         /2013
                                         /2012 ...etc.

So WildWood, nature, and zoo are all auto-index pages that contain the folders below them as individual galleries.

Currently I have "photog" and "ttg-be" as top level folders.  Should I put ttg-be inside photog?

Thanks for the offer of Ben's help.  I think if I delete everything and reinstall ttg-be it will remove the reference to the missing folder.  At this point I'm still trying to setup the structure so I don't mind doing that.

BTW I've completely removed CE3 but the CE3 Publisher is still in LightRoom even though I used the LightRoom delete button to try and remove it.  How do I remove it?  (If you want I'll post this as a separate question.)

#44 Re: CE4 Publisher » How do I publish a set of Albums within a folder in CE4? » 2014-11-05 03:53:26

I don't know how I got this to work when I first posted the "got it thanks" because I haven't been able to since then.  This is what happens.

If I create a new instance of Publisher with the top level gallery set to photog/WildWood/ I'm prompted to create the folder "WildWood" on the server (and set the permission).  Then when I use that instance of Publisher to create an Album Set for WildWood 2014 and an Album for WildWood 2014 it uploads the photos here:

whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/WildWood/2014 instead of whatwant.ca/photog/WildWood/2014

If I try to create the Album Set and Album in the default Publisher it uploads the Album to whatwant.ca/photog/ with no auto index (even though I've created an Album Set with the WildWood auto index):

whatwant.ca/photog/2014

Then if I delete the Album and Album Set I cannot create a new one because it wants to add a number to the new Album (20142) and I cannot find where I can reset the id number.

If I delete the WildWood folder and create it on the server again I get "the album cannot be created on the server" even though it's there.

#45 Re: CE4 Publisher » Publisher Setup metadata Token won't display Photo Date » 2014-11-01 03:14:42

That's working now, thanks - and thanks for the hint to only publish metadata.

#46 Re: CE4 Gallery » How do I change the colour & opacity on arrows and x in magnific popup » 2014-11-01 01:20:55

I use Firefox as well.  The difference I found with the popup page is that unlike the thumbnail page if you run the cursor over the actual page it only partially works (it seems to work on the first try but as soon as you change focus to the code it stops working if you go back to the actual page) - perhaps it's because the cursor is a magnifier.  I just discovered it does work in the code portion but you have to find the element you're looking for in there instead of being able to find it on the page with the cursor.

Another odd thing, yesterday the text-shadow:none worked on .image-close - but it didn't work today when I went back to it so I added !important.  I noticed doing this that sometimes I get odd results like that even when I've cleared the cache.

#47 Re: CE4 Gallery » How do I change the colour & opacity on arrows and x in magnific popup » 2014-10-31 03:56:04

I got it, thanks.  I didn't need all the CSS in the arrow code so the complete final CSS is:

/* arrow colours */
.mfp-gallery .mfp-arrow-left:before, .mfp-gallery .mfp-arrow-right:before  {
    color:#647a53;
}

/* arrow shading none */
.mfp-gallery .mfp-arrow {
    opacity: 1;
    text-shadow: none;
}

/* x window close colour */
ul li .img-close {
    color:#647a53;
}

/*  x window close shadow none */
.img-close {
    text-shadow: none !important;
}

It's difficult to figure out that page code.  I was trying to use source code but it shows the thumbnail page with the js code for the popup.  The inspector is a big help but it doesn't stay focused on the page because it's a popup window.

Thanks for your help.

#48 Re: CE4 Publisher » Publisher Setup metadata Token won't display Photo Date » 2014-10-30 05:40:10

Yes I did.  I tried the republish one photo trick but it didn't work.  In fact it set the republished photo to October 23rd which is even stranger, because all of the other photos have yesterday's (the 28th) upload date. It was working when I started creating this template several days ago, but I've gone through several uploads of changes since then and at some point it stopped showing the correct date.

I put {Month} {Date}, {YYYY} in Metadata 1 in Publisher Setup.  That's correct, isn't it?

#49 Re: CE4 Gallery » How do I change the colour & opacity on arrows and x in magnific popup » 2014-10-30 05:28:58

Thanks, that worked.  I also made the opacity 100% and removed the shadow using this:

.mfp-gallery .mfp-arrow {
    opacity: 1;
    filter:  alpha(opacity=100);
    text-shadow: none;
    }

One other related question, how do I do the same (100% and remove shading) on the close "x" button? (I added this to the question for further searches - hope that's OK.)
