#1 Backlight 3 Support » Not Happy - Bought BL2 about 6 months ago » 2020-05-02 00:17:34

I like to stay current on my software when possible. Just upgraded to BL2 about 6 months ago and now BL 3 comes out at$135 with only a $35 upgrade discount. Too expensive for my blood to keep up. Gotta reluctantly look for an affordable alternative as I expect a version 4, 5 and so on will continue to come out.

What a shame as I like BL.

Is there a way to have customers download multiple photos at once? Batch them for download?
btw: I have the CR module and the cart module.

Thanks,

In spite of all the power of BL, I'm running mostly the defaults. I'm managing a 2nd website that offers the user the option of viewing thumbnails while displaying a large image, as shown here: http://frankwhitephotography.com/images/tmp/te.png

My website (as shown here: http://frankwhitephotography.com/images/tmp/fwp.png ) doesn't offer this choice and I can't find the setting to turn it on.

Can you help?

Thanks!

I will absolutely do that. Thanks Rob.

#7 Re: Backlight Support » Rename Button in Cart Module » 2017-09-02 11:39:52

That's what the Client Response module is for.

So I've heard. But I'm told I can't run Client Response and Cart at the same time.

Thanks!

Hi,

Can you tell me how to rename the Cart Button "Proceed to Checkout" to "Offline Checkout"? Some people are finding the button ambiguous - selecting it instead of PayPal. Also, I like to use it so that users can select photos for additional editing from a proofing gallery (an easy way to let the customers cull).

Thanks!

Frank

#9 Re: General » Automated updates? » 2017-07-19 23:12:22

I'm glad you told me that. I was hoping and planning to buy the Client Response Add-on to go with Cart. Maybe you guys will add some of the Client Response features to Cart?

I'm wondering if you have an automated update/upgrade script on your roadmap? I love updates and upgrades since they fix problems and introduce new features. However, I try to avoid anything technical that could ruin my site (even though I have backups) whenever I can. I'm one of those folks who's prone to careless mistakes. I'd love to be able to update or upgrade backlight from the administrator's panel. Hopefully, this feature will eventually appear.

One more thing... Feedback actually. I suggest you add a gallery to your demonstration page at http://theturninggate.net/galleries/ that shows Backlight with the Client Response Add-on AND the Cart Add-on. I'd love to see them working together.

#11 Re: Backlight Support » Backlight v1.2: undefined index error » 2017-07-02 06:03:58

Hi Ben,

Sorry for the delay in replying. I don't know if I can reproduce the error but here are the steps, in my case, that produced it the first time.

I followed the directions given to update Backlight to v1.2. Next I followed the directions to upgrade Cart to v4.1. When I tested the cart, it erred. I flushed the cache again and tried a number of things. Finally, I returned to the Cart upgrade instructions and tried clicking the link to reset the customer's cart and the problem resolved. I'd be happy to provide you with backend credentials to my site if you still would like to poke around.

Thanks,

Frank

#12 General » Shared copy of Backlight » 2017-07-01 11:49:02

Can multiple people on different computers share the same API to upload to a common gallery (where a gallery is a collection of albums on a single website) via Lightroom?

A group of us want to cull and upload our own images to a single shared gallery. We all use Lightroom. I have told them I believe we can do this with one shared copy of Backlight, since it uses a unique API key to connect to a gallery. Am I correct in my assumptions?

Thanks!

DISREGARD....

Solved by clicking "Reset the customer's cart in this browser".

I'm getting the following message when attempting to add a photo to the cart, after updating both backlight and the cart to the lastest versions (1.2 & 4.1).

Unexpected error: Undefined index: products in AjaxController.php on line 136

How to fix?

I plan to buy another Backlight license but am trying to wait on the new version that was blogged about in April. Is there an ETA? If I purchase the current version, will I be able to upgrade without additional cost?

(Don't know if this is the right place to post this request)

I'd like to see a production website with Fotomoto implemented, since I'm considering this capability. I wasn't able to find an implementation in the TTG blog. Please leave your links below.

Thanks!

#17 Re: Backlight Support » Scaling » 2016-08-16 14:40:34

I believe deleting and recreating the gallery fixed it. Fingers crossed. Thanks Rod and Ben.

I know you much rather spend your time developing rather that chasing problems, so I'm going to delete the affected gallery using both LR and BL and re-upload it. Takes about 1.5 hours. If I still have problems I'll update this thread. Otherwise, you may ignore the previous message.

#19 Re: Backlight Support » Scaling » 2016-08-16 06:22:16

Ben,

I renamed the photos (all) in LR not realizing that LR would not push the renamed photos to BL. Rather than send you the requested image with a different file name, I republished the entire catalog.  Looks like I'm dealing now with new problem. Some of the photos are missing even though they exist in the thumbnails. I have over 500 thumbnails and only 458 actual photos in the directory (count from FTPing to the directory).

Should I try deleting the entire catalog via BL's utility and re-uploading it?

#20 Re: Backlight Support » Scaling » 2016-08-15 11:37:17

Hi Ben,

Sorry for the delay in replying, as figuring out what's going on is a priority. Image #16 was removed because it was a portrait oriented photo displayed as landscape causing the bride to look fat and distorted. Image 35 looks now that 16 was removed.

There are several images thorough out the 500+ image album that are distorted. As best I can tell, Backlight (BL) is displaying some photos in the opposite orientation than it should. For instance, image (and thumbnail) http://photos.frankwhitephotography.com … d=1&pid=48 (image #48, page2 - AKA thumbnail #98) is distorted. If it were displayed in portrait orientation it would look OK. The same image displayed outside of BL looks like this: http://photos.frankwhitephotography.com … ng-270.jpg.

I understand this issue may be baffling but I'm hoping we'll get to the bottom of this.

Thanks!

Frank

PS - I believe BL has the potential to be the most sought after companion to LR.

#21 Re: Backlight Support » Scaling » 2016-08-13 11:24:13

Unfortunately, the scaling issue still persist. Some images that should be in portrait orientation winds up munged into landscape orientation and vice versa.

Needless to say, in photography presentation is everything. Need help with this.

Thanks,

Frank

#22 Re: Backlight Support » Scaling » 2016-08-11 10:33:14

Thanks again, Rod. Since I know I'm the ONLY one that is demanding your time in this forum lol , let me ask you this..

My main site is using Google Fonts and there is a "Google Fonts Statement (optional)" field in backlight, can I use it to get Backlight to use Google fonts? I looked in http://backlight.theturninggate.net/doc … start#cart but didn't see anything.

Thanks

Frank

See there. That's why I hate posting here. I told ya it's something I should have been able to figure out. big_smile  I find Backlight extremely powerful, but not so intuitive.

Now I got to figure out how to get the photo filenames (or some other identifying info) to show up in the galleries.

Thanks Rod!

Cheers,

Frank

#24 Re: Backlight Support » Scaling » 2016-08-11 05:02:31

I'd cleared the cache, but failed to mention it in my earlier post. Backlight doesn't appear to be republishing images from LR. I changed the first image from color to BW and it continues to show color after republishing and clearing the cache via Backlight.

That explains why changing the crop on the distorted images didn't change anyway. The cropped photo is not being re-published. Perhaps if we could solve the republishing issue, the distorted photo issue will take care of itself.

The image delete does appear to work.

Your suggestions?

Frank

#25 Re: Backlight Support » Scaling » 2016-08-10 11:29:44

Yes. I've deleted the entire album, and tried cropping one of the photos. It still distorts. One thing I've noticed is that if I delete a photo via LR, it doesn't delete in the album and I'm not 100% sure photos modified to be republish is working (I'd intended to open a dedicated thread on, after I've tested it enough to be absolutely sure it doesn't delete or republish - been backed up editing photos). I have not deleted the photos in question because I couldn't. BTW I deleted the album via Backlight's delete album utility.

I'll spend some time tomorrow to test, delete and republish, and I'll get back with you. Maybe the distortion issue is related?

Thanks
