#1 Backlight 2 Support » Bluehost PHP 7.3 migrationn » 2019-09-07 19:37:16

My memory is failing. I seem recall that when installing Backlight v1.0, I had issues with PHP version and had to downgrade from 7.x to make Backlight happy. I am still running PHP 5.6.40 and WordPress is now complaining that this version is outdated to the point where is is no longer supported.

Has anyone had any particular difficulty updating to PHP 7.3, latest version, on Bluehost.

Thanks.

#2 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Backlight login not working » 2019-06-16 20:34:13

Brief panic attack this morning. Decided to turn on 2FA after updating to v2.0.9. Was promptly locked out. Before doing something stupid like trying to do a site restore, I actually did a search and found this item.

I upgraded to BL2 with the first version and my /backlight .htaccess file was dated 10/10/2018. Following the instructions above, I found a file dated 02/01/2019 and uploaded. All is well and 2FA now works.

Somehow the BL module update did not update this particular file leading to the error.

You may want to take a look at this thread as I and a few others worked through converting to SSL last year. Notes may be a bit dated as we were using an earlier version of BL but the shopping list of things to update is unchanged.

All modules updated including the okapi modules. All is well.

Foolish question. How will updates to the LR publisher plug-in show on the modules page?

#5 Re: Backlight 2 Support » BL2 admin page oddity » 2018-09-16 23:25:30

Just checked again to make sure, but all updates have been installed.

HP notebook HP ENVY - 15t Touch Laptop. It has a 4k touch screen running Windows 10 Professional

Thanks Rod.

For some odd reason, my Backlight 2 admin page menu items fail to drop-down on admin, etc. I click on admin, for example and the page loads correctly but I don't seem to be able to get to the sub-menu items such as language.

Tried Chrome, my main browser, IE, Firefox and all are the same. I'm on the road and my notebook has a touch screen and I haven't been able to try on a non-touch screen device.

Chrome on my android phone loads and displays the sub-menus in the mobile version just fine.

My website works just fine as well. https://jamesherman.net/

Thoughts?

#7 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Slideshow transition time » 2018-09-16 22:34:16

We discussed this issue with BL 1, http://community.theturninggate.net/vie … hp?id=8580

And at the time it was hard wired but on the todo list for future development.

Rod also published a tip on the issue, the line numbers are probably different for BL 2, http://ttg-tips-and-tricks.barbeephoto. … ide-shows/

#8 Re: Backlight 2 Support » Master Username/Password » 2018-09-14 22:21:03

Similar issue. I have private album sets and galleries. Not using CRG. The master password allowed access to them all and the individual visitor passwords allowed access to their individual collections.

As suggested above, the private gallery requests an access code. I then logged into BL2, Chrome seems happy as the right lower corner icon is now present. Still requests the access code.

#9 Backlight 2 Support » Backlight 2 upgrade suggestion » 2018-09-12 22:45:37

Upgraded this morning and only 1 small hitch. I had a brief panic attack when after upgrading, my site produced a; "page not found error." I use a Theater album on the home page. After upgrading then installing the modules and making sure the .htaccess and index.php files are updated on the root directory. Then clicking on the, "upgrade album files," Now everything works.

On the upgrade documentation, I recommend adding the critical step to make sure to install all the BL 2 modules.

I must be dense. last evening I was demonstrating Backlight for a friend and chose an album to show with the slideshow. After clicking the play button the slideshow started but the image duration was too short. I found the setting for Galleria but have been unable to find the setting in Backlight for image duration. What am I missing?

An example gallery on my site is:

Is there something I'm missing or are the add-ons such ad Fotomoto, missing, something stupid I've done, not yet included, no plans to include ... in the new Pangolin Galleria Add-on?

You may also find help with the discussion from last December where we had some minor issues particularly with FotoMoto.

Same issue with my site. I was just puzzling through including making sure my FF cache was cleared, etc. Chrome, IE and Edge all work fine. In Firefox the menu is behind the content. Doesn't seem to be a problem if the window is narrow enough that the pallet changes to the mobile menu.

#16 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin Required fields » 2017-07-07 08:28:08

I apologize for the diversion off topic. Well sort of. Life is too short to take too seriously. Glad Rod had the good sense to actually answer the question.

michilge, flunked. Badly! Even considered the sun glasses http://enchroma.com/, then looked at the price.

Daniel, with the white background, the bar on the left serves the purpose. I would not have known the text wasn't black/grey otherwise. The moon is, to my eye, an excellent pallet. Though can't say what color the not grey text is. Doesn't matter, I have no difficulty navigating your site.  I tend to prefer neutral darker backgrounds as I don't feel like i'm squinting to look at the images. This is likely why LR chose a grey pallet. My first reference above is a bit technical, but the latter half of the post spends time discussing color choices for presentations. It seems here is a disproportionate number of science nerds with a color issue.

Matthew, blue is my choice as well. My wife, color consultant, lobbied for, not blue, thus my pallet choices.

Begs the question, do my color choices make everyone else's face hurt? https://www.jamesherman.net/

Considering a road trip to Hattusa to visit the Hittite Palace next month. Any takers?
Cheers all.

#17 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin Required fields » 2017-07-06 20:17:26

I would suggest caution using red. I am one of some 15-20% males with some form of color deficiency. That may also explain my color pallet on my web site and my wife's odd looks when I try to color correct an image. Seriously, a red text on anything but white may as well be invisible. I also cannot tell a red highlighted word in a sea of black text.

http://jfly.iam.u-tokyo.ac.jp/color/ and http://www.colour-blindness.com/general/prevalence/ are excellent references.

#19 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin WP Theme » 2017-07-06 09:30:27

Daniel's suggestion worked as advertised. It changed color to a color consistent with my site. I placed the code fragment in the WP css. Tried Rod's suggestions but at first blush didn't work but I need more time to make sure I haven't done something stupid.

#20 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin Epiphany » 2017-07-06 09:02:15

Too good to be true. Everyone, all the albums, album sets, etc., is happy on the web site but ... It seems LR doesn't know that. With the updated templates LR doesn't look on the website to see if the template is OK. It produces a, Can't update this collection, error until each LR album has been touched.

All it takes is an, Edit Album, open and close to update to the correct template then LR is again happy.

Something Ben may want to consider when considering implications of adding the separate function.

#21 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin WP Theme » 2017-07-05 19:34:03

On my sidebar, I use an archive widget, WP native I think, which has the option of producing a list which can be long or using a drop-down box. The problem is in the drop-down box. The background color is white, the text color is almost white and contents are only visible on mouse flyover. I think the theme picks up the color of the text used everywhere while the search box and subscribe boxes use white background and black cursor.

Tried to change settings in my Backlight Pangolin Pages theme but haven't been able to find the correct one.

I had updated from Okapi to Pangolin and have somewhere around 200 albums, album sets and sub album sets. i worked my through installation and customization and with a few small issues everything seems to be working well. I was not looking forward to physically touching each and every album, album set and sub album set in LR. I soldiered on and made it about 1/3 the way through.

Then out of boredom I tried a few things like renaming the Okapi standard album template and replacing it with a new album template. Been and PHP are too smart to fall for that ruse. Bummer.

Then I exported my templates and proceeded to delete the ones that I thought I was no longer using to make LR more convenient. Here when deleting an album set template, I discovered that at least one album set was still using the Okapi template but Backlight asked, epiphany, asked if I wanted to assign existing albums to a new template and the Pangolin templates were all listed!!!!!

I backed up my remaining Okapi templates and deleted each assigning a Pangolin replacement. Took 15 minutes to accomplish what I had anticipated would take hours.

Summary, There is a way to essentially batch replace the Okapi templates with Pangolin templates through an entire site. As always, make backups first.

#23 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin WP Theme » 2017-07-05 02:03:59

Reset to auto and nothing broke. Seems happier.

Still with the font color issue with the drop down lists, white on white but visible on mouse flyover. Changed to standard list for now.

Happy to help with the Fotomoto weirdness. On the plus side Fotomoto seems to have phased out their obsolete code and the warnings I was getting last fall have gone away.

No on the Fotomoto.

I've poked around a bit and finally found the source. Line 32 of file in the Pangolin theme, theme.enqueue.php file:

if( !function_exists( 'fotomoto' ) ) {
                wp_enqueue_script( 'fotomoto' , 'http://widget.fotomoto.com/stores/scrip … 1269330677', array('scripts'), false, true );
            }

The z-value that is a plugin called "WP User Control" which is the only login that I have found which is willing to sit in the sidebar. Found the setting in the .css file and changed to 10 from 1000. Not sure if it helps.

#25 Re: Backlight Support » Pangolin WP Theme » 2017-07-04 07:33:04

On the web it seems to occasionally take some time for things to propagate.  Always been a mystery to me. When I checked this afternoon the 144 had propagated through. I then reset to 48, saved and sent to WP. then I changed to the Backlight theme and back to the Pangolin theme. Still a bit flaky but much better. The text color in the drop down box, e.g. archive, is still white on white but the font sizes seem to have stabilized. Tried changing the text, hyperlink and hover settings to no avail.
