LR publisher

Is the LR publisher that comes with Backlight 2 any different from the plugin I've been using with CE3 ?

Re: LR publisher

yes. It's got all the goodies to support the latest features that Matt and Ben have added.

When installed, the Backlight 1 Publisher replaced the CE4 Publisher, leaving the CE3 Publisher. I think the same thing happens with the Backlight 2 Publisher but I'm not positive (working from my laptop this week so can't check if CE3 is still on my desktop or if it got replaced by the Backlight 2 Publisher)

Have you installed the new Backlight 2 Publisher? Is the CE3 Publisher still showing up in Lightroom?

Re: LR publisher

Ah well that's the thing. As I'm still finding my way around Backlight 2 I'm nervous that if I install the BL2 Publisher Plugin and it replaces the old CE3 publisher, and then my other half can't publish to her current site anymore I might become homeless !

Re: LR publisher

I think you'll be ok, but best wait for Matt, Ben, or someone who's got CE3 Publisher on their computer to weight in.
Problem is, you can't do any publishing from Lightroom in Backlight 2 without it.

But you can still use Backlight's image upload for albums for testing

Okay thanks Rod, I'll hold out for a bit, and see if the others can let me know. In the meantime I'll upload one or two from BL

Re: LR publisher

As a precaution, you always can copy your current Publisher to a different location and recover it from there if needed.

Re: LR publisher

It should be compatible.  I'm not aware of anything in the BL2 Publisher that would break in LR5.

Some information on the compatibility between our two LR plugins: There are two things that make a Lightroom plugin unique - the install location and the unique internal identifier.  To have two operational Publisher plugins, both need to be unique.  The install location is straightforward.  The plugins have different names so will appear as different sets of files to LR.  We only use two internal identifiers.  One for the CE3 plugin, and another for the CE4, BL1 and BL2 plugins.  That means you can have operational plugins for CE3 and one of CE4, BL1 and BL2.  The BL2 plugin is compatible with CE4, BL1 and BL2 websites, so there is nothing missed from only being able to install one of the CE4/BL1/BL2 plugins.

Re: LR publisher

I installed Publisher.  Downloaded the plug in, unzipped, added in plug in manager.
I used the URL
http://denniskeyesphotography.com/backl … publisher/
because I am building my website inside a temporary folder in my old website which I named backlight-2-test which is in my public folder.  I used the same API key as earlier when installing backlight.
I was able to create an album and put images into the album.
I  right clicked on the album and chose Publish now.  I got an ERROR message:
Can't update this collection,
Unable to perform action: createAlbum
Message: Unable to authenticate

I checked authentication back on the Publishing Manager and got a message:
Authentication check
The authentication check was NOT successful.  Please check the URL and API Key.

I tried changing the url to:http://denniskeyesphotography.com/backlight/publisher/
but got a message:  unable to locate Publisher.
Apparently could find but not authenticate using the url and API I tried first.

How do I authenticate?

Re: LR publisher

The api url us wrong, you need to add publisher to the end of it.

http://yourdomain.com/backlight/publisher

Re: LR publisher

It appears that Backlight is not installed at http://denniskeyesphotography.com/backlight/

But it is here: http://denniskeyesphotography.com/backl … /backlight
Try using this API url for your test site:

http://denniskeyesphotography.com/backlight-2-test/backlight/publisher

Re: LR publisher

And another thing.....
As I was learning how to create pages and albums and album sets, I may have gone overboard. I created albums and album sets linked to pages that I created for use in my top level folder GALLERIES.  After installing the plug in and getting on to create album, it appears that may not have been necessary and may even cause additional problems. Do I need those pages and albums or should I just delete them and create albums with  backlight publisher or in lightroom publisher.  My earlier post describes a problem with authentication.  A problem I am fiding with backlight publisher is that when I click the Admin menu item, the drop down list does not include publisher.  Help!!

Re: LR publisher

Thanks Rod, but, as you see in my edited post and now an additional post, I did have the correct url in my procedure, just got it wrong in my post.  The problem now is with authentication and publisher not showing in my admin menu.

Re: LR publisher

The Admin dropdown does not contain Publisher. Publisher is a separate item in the main Backlight menu

Albums and album sets do not need to be inserted into pages, that’s a feature that can be used as needed.
Albums and sets stand on their own.

Re: LR publisher

If you’d like, feel free to send me your api key via email and, as a test, I can try authenticating from my end

Re: LR publisher

This is pasted from the backlight documentation:
"In Backlight's admin menu, click Publisher to see a list of existing top-level galleries".
Which admin menu does this refer to?  I will email you my API key

Re: LR publisher

I think that’s a leftover from the Backlight 1 docs.
Log in to Backlight, you’ll see the Publisher menu item. It’s the third one, after Admin and Designer.

Re: LR publisher

Corrected API key and successfully authenticated and published a test album.  Now I just need to resolve the issue I described in the email with the pages and albums I created under Galleries.  Another thing I noticed is that there is no home button to get back to the home page.  What am I missing?

Just add a Home item to your menu set
